Bumble bee - interesting what you say about not celebrating on the actual day because in my sisters family everyone gives presents to the kids on her wedding anniversary and they all admit its just in replacement of Xmas, but I just can't get my head round it, thats just like admitting they do actually celebrate Xmas just a few weeks later than everyone else.

What did they all do on "worldly holidays" when you were home alone?
by LongHairGal ini always hated being alone on thanksgiving or christmas.
what bothered me was that if it were known you accepted an invitation by relatives it was frowned upon.
but what got to me was this: is god more pleased that i am home looking at four walls alone rather than being over somebody's house??

Dad (elder) called yesterday.
by Es inhi all.... i have not spoken nor seen my dad for about 3months now after he would not allow me to borrow cds for my up and coming wedding to a "worldy guy" because borrowing his cds means he would be supporting my mariage.
even tho the relationship between my mum and i is now strained as a result she still keeps in contact and suggested that we all meet at the shops one day for lunch so dad could see my son.
i agreed as i felt it would be nice for my son to see his pop again...but also was a little upset as dad hasnt gone out of his way to see my son.

I feel for you I really do.
It just seems like JW constantly let themselves down, I mean, doesn't it say somewhere something along the lines of 'By there actions you will know them'?
Can't they see the way they act is dispicable.

They have screwed-up ideas about forgiveness
by LongHairGal inthis was another issue i had with them.
no matter what someone did, no matter how bad and even if the person was dfd and came back some would welcome them with open arms.
it was almost as if they were being rewarded for their wrongdoing.

I don't know how true it is, but I did hear a rumour that in my town in the 90s there was a brother who used the service to see who was at home and who wasn't, if no one was home he would break in.
I imagine he was a trusted member of the congregation.

There is no kindness or love with these people.
My whole family are witness', so to keep them happy I decided to have another study last year but it was so boring that I told them very politely that its not for me.
Since then (Nov 04) not one member of my family has spoken to me, they have not bothered with my 2 year old daughter, I'm 7 months pregnant now and I would love for my mum or sister or any of my family to just say congratulations or just show some interest but they won't even say hello when I pass them in the street.
I think its a very cold religion, there is definately no love or compassion there.

Back in 1996 when I studied for a short time there was this girl in the congregation who got pregnant by her boyfriend, she was only about 16 and I remember thinking she was brave and thought she had done the right thing by keeping the baby, it would have been easier for her to have an abortion and hush it all up so no one would judge her, or keep away from the kingdom hall so she wouldn't have to face everyone but the sister I studied with was absolutely appalled that she had the nerve to turn up at the meetings and didn't mind who she shared this view with.
I think that was the main reason why I stopped my study, I just couldn't believe that someone who was supposed to be christian and forgiving could think that this young pregnant girl should be thrown out of the congregation and ignored by everyone she knew just because she had gotten pregnant.

My witness mum sang happy birthday to my daughter on her first birthday but didn't get her a present or card because she claimed it went against bible teachings.

I feel like a leper
by Wild_Thing ini certainly have had my share of jw stupidity for the day ... and of my family's stupidity today.
two things happened ... both completely unrelated.
as a little background, i "faded" from the witnesses almost five years ago.

look on the bright side, atleast your family still speak to you.
I was never disfellowshipped, never baptized even, I only studied for about a year but because I told them very politely its not for me, my witness mother, sister and brother have not spoken to me since November.
Also, while I was still studying, my daughter had her first birthday, my mum thought it was ok to sing happy birthday down the phone to her as no other witness' would find out but didn't send a present or card as this is going against the bible's teachings.

"They have NEVER lied"
by Robert_V_Frazier inin this post over at carm, http://tinyurl.com/84ntg a jw from australia who goes by the handle "corvus" made a rather audacious claim:[the society] have never lied to, mislead or decieved anyone - they have made mistakes.. .
in response, i listed four lies that the society has made, three of which are easily investigated and proven to be lies.
1) the cover story that beth-sarim was built to house resurrected old testament saints who were coming back in 1925, when in fact, the house was built to get rutherford away from bethel.

well, this is all a bit advanced for me but can say that the JWs I know, including my own mother, are definately not afraid of telling a few lies, but who am I to question the actions of such good christian morally upright people.

do you mean to say there are actually books written to help people realise the truth isn't the truth?
I'm quite new to all this, only just stumbled across this website but relieved to know there are other people out there who have some idea of what Jehovahs Witness' stand for and the way they treat people.
