I don't know which scripture it is or even how it goes exactly, but there is one about after we die we become like angels in heaven, well I asked a sister what that meant and she didn't know, she said we would have to wait for new light.

Anyone take up smoking after leaving the borg?
by AK - Jeff ini still consider it a bad habit with health concerns.
but i am honestly attracted to the idea of a pipe and cherry tobacco.. i have joked of it some with wifey, but not too serious.
maybe though just an occasional pipe or a cuban would be ok?.

If the guy was a witness all his life I can easily see why he took up smoking at 27, just a way of proving to himself that he is in control.

I started smoking, and I know this is going to sound like such a tall tail but its not, I don't get addicted to it, sometimes I smoke non stop for months, then I leave it for a few months (without any cravings).
I hadn't smoked since finding out I was pregnant and my little girl is 5 months old now, but the other night I had one cigarete and it gave me an instant headache so I might leave it now.

my story
by fordulant inhi, i found this discussion forum and felt a need to tell my story, and prehaps talk to people who have an understanding of what it feels like and means to be brought up a jehovahs witness.
i was practically born into a jehovahs witness family, there was my mother, my sister and myself, my father (a non-believer) left when i was 3. i can remember my mum telling me that i would never get to school as armagedden would be here before then, then i can remember her saying that i would never get to high school as armagedden would be here.... it was a kind of running theme, mum always lived expecting the end of the world the next day.
mum re-married when i was 6 and her new husband quickly became an elder in the congregation, i also gained 2 step-sisters and a step-brother, who did not live with us but their mother who was not a jw.

SELF ESTEEM in the organization
by justice for all indid your self esteem increase or decrease after being in the organization for a while?
-

I'm not sure to be honest, I was looked down on a lot as a witness because I refused to be a 'good girl', I was happy kicking a football around with my worldly boy mates, and so to counteract the attitude my witness peers had towards me I was a cocky little bitch really, but this was just hiding my true feelings I think.
These days I do have low self esteem but at the same time I'm very assertive and demand respect from those around me.
If that makes any sense at all.

Do you feel 'Disconnected' since leaving the borg?
by AK - Jeff ini mean - many of us had a history that was exclusively in the 'truth'.
nothing else.. now having left, do you long for a discussion with some who share your past culture, understandings, and lifestyle?.
is that the 'appeal' of this board to many?
-
Ellie
Yes I do feel some what disconnected, not just because of the watchtower though, having moved around so much I've lost contact with a lot of people from the past, but friendsreunited is a great site.

The 144,000 and what makes them tick.
by Clam ini havent been to a kh since i was a teenager and was always intrigued by the 144,000 and that some supposedly resided in my congregation.. questions about them were inevitably met with ambiguous answers.
"they just know they are" was a favourite reply when i asked how these "anointed ones" received their calling.
has anyone known any jws who reckon they're in the 144,000 club, and what makes them think they are?.
-
Ellie
I was about 10 years old when I asked an older sister that question, she explained it this way, "Well, its like boys and girls, boys know they are boys and girls know they are girls, so the 144,000 know who they are".
I still don't get it.
