  ok,personal story coming up.

  Last year my partner was put in prison for street robbery.

  Had his offence been detected by a monitored camera then the police would probably have intervened and the offence would not have been so serious.

  However, because there was no camera and he was the only one of his 4 friends involved in the incident to make a confesion he had to serve a prison sentence while the other guilty parties walked away scot free.

  Now he is out of prison and wearing an electronic tag which is far more invasive (although arguably he only has himself to blame) and costly to the government.

  My point is, had there been a camera recording the events the attack might never have taken place or become so serious, also the other offenders would have been punished.

  do you follow the arrangement dictated by the governing body of jw's regarding df'd and da'd individuals?

  do you shun the jw's like you are expected to by wt leaders or do you speak to jw's and greet them with a smile even if they shun you when you do so?

  in complying with wtbts rules of acceptable behavior for da'd or df'd persons do you think that you are showing unconditional love to your neighbor?

  I think shunning is an inhumane, dispicable thing to do.

  I am shunned by practically the whole congregation but if meet them in the street I always smile and say hi, for the most part they turn and look the other way but this is quite amuseing to me, it shows them up for the loveless hipocrytes that they are.

  Ofcourse, in a perfect world there would be a lot more police on the streets, however it is unlikely that there would ever be a copper down each street, what I think would be a better and cheaper solution would be to have one fully working camera down every street, that could alert the police to any incidents.

  The town that I live in has a high level of policing, its dificult to walk to the shops without seeing atleast one police car on patrol and its difficult to walk down the high street without seeing a cop on the beat, however, its always nice to know that the cameras are watching too.

  Ok evilForce, I can see that you have done your homework and probably have a lot of valid points.

  However, can you imagine an average town, its kicking out time and the highstreet is full of drunken revellers.

  Down a little side street a man begins to assault another man, there is CCTV and the surveilance team spot what is going on, alert the police (who stick more or less to the high street) and the assault is brought to a stop, victim is ok and man is arrested.

  The point I'm making EvilForce is that if all the cameras either had film or where monitored then they would act as a much better detterant than they do now.

  As it is, the cameras which are monitored may not deter crime but do help the police to investigate crimes and make identifications, also they help the police to intervene while say a fight or mugging is taking place.

  EvilForce - I think you'll find the reason why CCTV hasn't been all that effective in Britain is because half the cameras are not monitored and the other half have no film in.

  Used properly they are a good deterrant.

  would you let your child associate with Jehovahs Witnesses?

  i'm the only one of my family who is not in 'the truth', and my family don't want anything to do with me.. however, today my mum asked me if she can take my 2 year old to visit the rest of the family, i'm not invited and wouldn't be welcome at any of their houses, so she would be taking my daughter alone.. i told her i would think about it.. i really don't think it would be practical because my daughter is not familiar with the family and i don't want her to be upset.. but the main reason |'m thinking of saying no is that i feel offended that i am not good enough for them to speak to.. am i being selfish if i say no?

  Thanks everyone for your replies.

  I'm guesing due to the amount of replies that I've had that you have all had similar experiences.

  I've decided to let my family see my daughter, I'm not willing to use her as a weapon in some stupid religious dispute, I don't want to cut her off from people who care for her.

  However, I will insist that I be there too, and if they can't accept that then they can't see her, atleast its not me being childish and petty.

  Thanks again for your replies, you made the decision easier.

  If you have nothing to hide then it shouldn't be a problem.

  While I can understand that some might think they are useless seems as they will only be looked at after a crime has been comitted and therefore not enable the police to intervene while the crime is happening, I think they will act as a deterrant.

  Once the criminals realise they are there and will be looked at after they have commited their particular crime they are hopefully going to think twice, also it will help the police to make identifications and therefore bring more criminals to justice.

  A lot of CCTV cameras are not viewed live anyway due to lack of resources.
