GIVE A GOOD WITNESS---------------
by vitty in"give a good witness" today i made an effort to wave to my neighbour, not because i particularly wanted to or like him, but had a feeling i needed to "prove how nice i was or to give a good witness" .
habits die hard, this follows on from the guilt thread.
i still feel that *i put on a front, i cant be myself, in case i do or say something that could bring reproach, what the hell on i dont know i havent been to a meeting for over a year no one here knows i was a witness.

I know exactly what you mean, I always find myself doing this, smileing at strangers, holding doors open for people even when I'm in a hurry, giving up seats for other people etc, my boyfriend always laughs at me and says I'm too polite but I think its a witness thing.

Superstitious JW Nonsense
by 95stormfront inone of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.
she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.
she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

I heared all manner of spooky stories while growing up, I think my dad and older half sister realised that I was petrified and so if they told me enough ghost stories I would be too afraid to ever leave the org.
One that sticks out is this:
My sister reckons that while she was a teenager in the 70s she had a friend whos family moved into a new house, to begin with everything was fine but after a few weeks this friends dad went up into the attic to clear out all the old boxes left by the previous occupants, he came across an interesting looking chest and decided to open it, as he opened the lid he became aware of a change in atmosphere and a cold chill went through his body.
After that the house became haunted, things would switch on and of by themselves, noises could be heared, figures seen, the usual stuff really.
This bloke reckoned he could hear voices in his pillow and was seen by my sister carrying a box along the road, apparentely he was very protective towards the box, wouldn't let anybody touch it and then somehow it came about that my sister found out there was nothing actually in it.
Anyway, the bloke ended up commiting suicide inside the house and the family moved.
As a cynic now I dont believe this story to be true (unless the bloke was mentally ill), but at the age of aprox 7 it was pretty frightening.

Anti-Witnessesing: Passive Agressive Style Effective for Quotes
by Quotes inwell, they came magazine selling door-knocking ingathering and judgeing witnessing today.
but first, a quick background.... my wife and i have a investment property 90 minutes away from our home (a mistake btw; always invest closer to your home!
) and we've been there (here) full time for the past several days doing some renovations.

My story - part One.
by diamondblue1974 ini have never posted my story on jwd and it was only recently that it occured to me that i should really make more of an effort to; here is the first part....sorry if its longwinded.... .
i was brought up in the borg from the age of 18 months old and as you can understand i have known little else.
previous to being in the truth my mother was an unwanted child and beaten by her mother, sure enough she fell into an abusive relationship with my father which left her with minus zero confidence and on the verge of a nervous breakdown; apparently my mum was considering throwing us both off a railway bridge she was that depressed and to her there was no point in living.

I don't know what to say Diamondblue, it must've been awful for you, I wish it could've been different.

What did JW teaching do to your view of God?
by thom induring the last few years that i was a jw i formed an opinion more and more of how i thought god was cruel and didn't understand or care about how his actions affect people.
i started to believe that we humans were just his little play toys and like a mean kid, he'd just kill off some now and then for whatever reason without any concern for his "toys".
in wondering how he could justify killing so many at armageddon, killing so many in the time before jesus came to earth, judging people who are in an imperfect state just because they happen to live at the time of armageddon but everyone else being judged in a perfect state without satan's influence i started thinking that he really had no concern for people and maybe even enjoyed the thought of those who would be "weeping and gnashing their teeth" right before they die forever.

I was born and raised as a witness so I've always had the jw belief, however a few years ago I really started thinking about the way the bible is so difficult to understand and how there are so many contradictions.
Even something so basic as God having no beginning and no end is so hard to understand.
I just started thinking that he would have to be so cruel to do this to us, to give all those signs to people in the beginning when they were going to die anyway and get a resurection and then just leave us the bible to interpret when our lives depend upon it.
I realised that I couldn't love a god like that.
However since leaving the jw and especially since finding this board I have come to realise that if there is a god he is not the one described by the witnesses.
So, now I don't know what my view of him is, even if I believe.

New J.W. strategy? I need to vent !!!
by hubert insome of you know i have a daughter and son-in-law that is involved with the j.w.
cult.. this is because of the influence brought about from my daughters aunt, who is a full blown (brainwashed) j.w.
cult member, and her family, too.. my daughter always loved her aunt, even though she was in the cult, which is fine with us.

It sounds like you are in a difficult situation, especially if you don't want to cause arguements or upset anyone.
I don't really know what to suggest except try having a talk with your daughter and show her this site.
I do know what you mean though, about the way they do people good turns in order to put pressure on them to study, so be very careful.

If they are playing the triangle or something like that then its ok, but anything noisy like drums would have to be a no no

Somethings just not true!
by defd inive been here for sometime now.
long enough to know that some peoples hatred toward th wtbts and some of its members are based on wrong information.
for instance: ive read on hear many times that the wt promotes the idea that everyone whos not a witness are not friend material or will be destroyed at armageddon.

So, now they are saying to be careful of people inside the congregation too, is there anyone they are allowed to trust?
