by Dogpatch ini am so shocked by the devastation in the south from katrina.
watch the news channel for a few minutes and you can imagine the grief, heartbrake and misery that thousands of people are experiencing as we read this board.
please, if you have any money at all to donate, do it now while it is fresh in your mind.

"Relief Effort" here in Texas

just thought i'd let those interested know what the north texas part of the org is/isn't doing to help in the relief effort from a first hand account.. first of all, we all know that the society isn't helping anyone that isn't a dub, maybe unless they are a serious bible study or something.
that being said, by monday we had several refugees camping out at different brother and sisters' homes, most of whom they were already friends with or were referred to by mutual friends.

Local JWs beginning Relief Efforts

the congregations in the city are organizing a relief effort.
they're asking for toiletries, non-perishable food items, and bottled water.

So, Who are the people that ignore BIG warnings?
by upside/down ini mean...it doesn't matter what the potential disaster is...there is always a group of morons that think they are invincible and can weather anything mother nature can throw at them.... is this evolutions way of strengthening the strain?
or is it weeding out the stupid weak?.
i'm not talking about the sick and poor that can't ...but the healthy fools that stay...and die.. it doesn't matter it's a volcano, tsunami, tornado, forest fire, hurricane, typhoon.....or a big toothed carnivorous animal...there is always the moron who demands to stay and face imminent harm and death...instead of using his brain and just temporarily relocating...to a safer locale.

Watchtower relief effort...
by undercover ini googled some different religion home pages this morning to see how some religions/churches were responding to the disaster on the gulf coast.. all the ones that i checked, catholic, baptist, lutheran, presbyterian all made mention of the disaster and had already started some relief efforts.
the cathoic church has its own relief website, catholicrelief.org where various relief efforts around the world are listed.
(one interesting one is that the catholic church is teaming with the mormons to bring food to niger) .

In my home town of Bangor Maine EVERY church EXCEPT Jehovah's Witnesses have abundant charities.
My mate belongs to the UU church and 45% of her membership fee goes to programs for the poor.
The local Salvation army has a gourmet soup kitchen that feeds many BIG time.
If i beamed down from outer space butt naked and asked for help every church in my town would be there in a heartbeat to help me.
If i knocked on the Bangor Kingdom hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and did the same they would call the cops.
James 1:27 " Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress " Hmmm St James didn't say anything about selling watchtowers
