I know it sounds sickeningly idealistic, but if we are constantly reaching for that high ideal, then society will be that much better.

I don't think it sounds sickeningly idealistic at all. And I agree that if we aim high we may come up short at times but aim higher next time.

I think without over simplyfing matters that one culture ( black) and that of women have been fighting for the same at times or many times with a different outcome-- one which favors the woman. And I am trying to figure out why the difference is there and so prominent.

i've been reading this forum for a while now and finally decided to join.

i left the "truth" about 7 years ago for reasons i am not ready to go into at this time- mainly because i dont have the time to explain them at the moment.

though i do not believe entirely what the witnesses teach, i am surprised to see such anger and hatred towards them.

No one was ever "forced" to remain a member of the faith (unlike cults), in my 20+ years of experience with them.

Wecome to the forum, glad you found us. I just want to say I agree with some of your post but take exception to some including the above statement. One was forced to stay at least until 18 years old. If you did do something that got you DFed then you were shunned and lost your family. This is a very strong reason to stay in a cult, manipulation of your life and loved ones. No one wanted to be little Johnny who was at the meetings with his Mom and Dad being looked at like he had three heads and one growing out of his ass. No one wanted to die in the great tribulation. These are all types of mind control which are heavily used by the JWs-- a cult.

If I may ask a question? Do you see any parallels between the move for civil rights and equality between blacks and women of every color? It seems to me that movements for such parallel one another, forgive me if you think my question trite.

Cassi, not trying throw more questions your way or pick on you. This has always intrigued me.

it is the fact that balck people rarely bully their way throguth college with brute cash and are ingorant of what it takes to hip and hop thought the financial aid hoops with out having to play hoops or hip and hop because music and sports are still probally the more utillized schoolarships for african americans.

This is far from true IMO. I recently attended two academic awards nights and 2 graduations. There were more black children than white achieving academic excellence awards ( scholarships) than white. I saw only few given for sports achievements but this was in addition to academic achievement. Academic achievement was at the forefront those evenings.

Abortion...

I believe in the first ammendment right as well. I believe that you should have the right to voice your opinion and stand up for whatever you believe in, even if that belief is that women should have the right to have an abortion.

Voicing your opinion is one thing. Stopping another from exercising that which they choose to do such as have an abortion is another. If as you say let the TV ads you favor run that is fine. This comes down to 'informend choice' on a woman's part IMO. You wish to inform me if I were a wanting an abortion you believe it is aginst gods will and you think I am wrong--that is also your choice to do so.

On the other hand those who are choice have the same right, to tell these women this is a fetus, not a baby, that one has a choice.

Blowing up clinics, killing doctors, killing women who want to assert their chioce, throwing acid, burning clinics, using hate and threats and using force tactics are not acceptable. Tactics so extreme and murderous that I see no difference between them and Terrorists like Al-Queda-- They are using fear as are some Pro Lifers. Why worry about being blown up by an airplane on 9-11, when you can be blown up trying to save your life or exercising your rights?

Here's a question to anyone who wants to answer it. If I believe that abortion is murder, and does extensive harm to the person having the abortion, the families and parties involved and most of the all the baby. If I know that to be true. Then why should I vote to keep it legal? Just because you and others might be misguided? Are you saying that I should NOT stand up for what I know and believe. That since you believe that abortion is a good thing that you CAN stand up for what you believe, and I should not because mine is different than yours.

That is the beauty of choice. I am not imposing my choice on you so therefore you should not make me choose that what you would. Your religious beliefs are that of Smith's. I choose not to believe what he and you believe that does not make you any better or more so misinformed or informed than me.

If you were forced to become Catholic would you do so without question or say, No I want to choose and make an informed decision?

I am sorry to hear of your impending loss, I know it's hard we do get attached. I put my cat down when she was diagonised with the same. This before the vaccine was widely avaliable.

i am witnessing several friends break up at the moment and one of my best mate's wife has constantly denied being in an afair despite be-friending a 21 year old guy who saw more of her than he did, and numerous suspicious txt messages and so on and so on.

anyway, to cut a long story short, he moved in here with me and has just spent three weeks going insane, un-able to sleep, brain over-active, and if he wasn't such a sane chap, almost going paranoid.. well, some of you know i'm a bit of a geek, so we wired up his home pcs web cam and ran a citrix session with remote control and a web cam recorder with ftp to download the files, and i waited tonight while he watched the result.

To answer your question I just had a heart to heart with my youngest daughter because she lied to me and has in the past. I was surprised to learn the she lied to me because she did not want to loose my trust and have my opinion of her any different than what she wanted it to be.

Messed up eh? She was creating a situation that she wished to avoid by doing what would make me loose trust and have me question her. Everyone has different reasons but I think many do so for the above reasons. No matter how simplistic it may sound.

Damn - I just found out this guy only had room for the recordings in his kazaa \ shareazza folder, and leaving that running was the pretense for leaving the PC on!!! OMG!

Computer jargon and I do not get along. I do however know what Kazaa is but why is this such an important revelation? Help me understand the drama! lol Cassi
