Well, Gill finally explained why they don't "see" us anymore. It is mighty dark up there, ain't it?

When YOU went out in the field service.....
by JH inwhen you used to go in the field service, did you go out to have 2 more hours on your report, or did you really want to save somebody's life by preaching a message of salvation ?

Like a lot of you, Lenny and I both pioneered. He loved trying to help others. I felt since he had pioneered for a year and was able to do it, while running his own business, being an elder & all the stuff that involves, I had to follow his example. I was not sure I could do it, since I didn't feel I knew what I was talking about most of the time. However, I did really get into it. There was a good base of ladies to work with that, showed me how to make the most of your time. That didn't include long breaks like most believed. They took me on their bible studies with them. Soon I had my own students to take them on. After Lenny stopped going to meeting, my thoughts about field service changed. No more weekend hours, during the week when no one was home, to spend time with hubby. It was a stuggle to get more than the average hours or less, but who wanted to, let the young people do that! Weird how your views about fs change as you start thinking for yourself. It was like Snakes & others have said on this subject.

Yes, the anonymous phone call from a pay phone booth to me was one of the juicier tidbits from Barb's research. This apparently was the stock answer from the Legal Dept when elders from "reporting states" inquired. Talk about "doing things in the darkness"!! Such policy is clearly intended to shield the organization, and consequently the pedophile, from nosy law enforcement detectives uncovering "the rest of the story" while being able to claim they were "in compliance" with local laws. Yes, the letter, not the spirit. And as we all know, it's the "letter of the law" that the WT is most concerned about. And all this to the absolute detriment of the victim, as well as future victims. They thumb their nose at civil society and circle the wagons. I nominate Barbara for sainthood. If the X-JW "movement" ever wanted a spokesperson, we couldn't do any better than our girl.

get rich quick schemes, multilevel marketing, pyramid schemes and JWs
by marmot infrom my experience growing up in the jws there were two big recurring themes when it came to making money: .
1 - window washing or other janitorial work .
2 - cheezy "get rich quick" schemes and other cult-like sales practices .

Many times I tried to warn friends in the cong not to get involved in these things, as I had been myself and gotten burned more than once. Some became quite upset with me because they were warned that others would speak negatively of their newfound opportunity. (Sound familiar?) I remember in one congregation, right after the Thursday meeting, car trunks would be popping open as brothers exchanged boxes of "Mix-I-Go", a gasoline additive MLM scheme. I'm sure there are more than a few who still have boxes of stuff like this in their attics or basements.
One elder, who had a book study in his home, was an Herbal-Life devotee. We all had to enter his home each week through the garage, which was a virtual Herbal-Life store, with shelves upon shelves of product lining the garage wall. Immediately after the prayer each week, he would have his order book out. I was so offended I spoke to the PO about it, but they were very close friends and both quite well-to-do. Hey, never, you know them, Lloyd and Jim.

When I was attending meetings without Lenny there were elders that were really concerned for me and would try to help me stay with the Borg. They had known us both for a long time so they knew some of the sh*t we had been through. Then, I moved to a new congregation in a rural area. Most of the people in that hall didn't know me or Lenny but there was one elder there that only had one thing on his mind. Find out why Lenny wasn't coming. He didn't have much to say to me but would always ask, can I call Lenny? or visit him? I knew Lenny was not coming back, he had found his way out reading Ray's books & discovering the truth about the wt. The rest of the elders there were just country men. Just following the cult without really helping anyone. The jerk elder is an ex bethelite. Karen in Bluemont

Fairport Convention
by LennyinBluemont inanybody else into this truly wonderful british folk-rock group?

Hey, thanks for chiming in, folks. Yes, I love Steeleye and Pentangle. Have seen Steeleye a few times and Fairport more times than I can remember. Never saw Pentangle, but have seen John Renbourne and Jacqui Macshee (sp) perform together a few times. Richard Thompson, in my opinion, was a fantastic member of the group, great songwriter and guitarist, but I haven't cared as much for him solo. I've been to see him a few times and have bought several of his CDs. Anybody been to the Cropredy Festival they have every year? I've still got quite a few of the original Fairport vinyls, but prefer the CDs to the pops and hisses. Sandy Denny's voice on the early recordings is positively celestial. But then, Maddy Prior can belt it out pretty good herself. Hey, anybody remember Dando Shaft?

My parents, elderly and sickly, are still in. They still believe, and I am shunned. As are my husband, grown children and grandchildren, that they have never met.
Too sad for words. This is the true fruitage of Jehovah's Witnesses. The way families are destroyed and forever broken up. How is this any different, in effect, from what the Nazis did to families, other than not physically torturing them and killing them? And all for what purpose? To sustain the illegitimate authority and power of 12 or so weak-minded old men and their supporters. The major regret of my life is having supported such a system zealously for almost three decades. Lisa, you've had pain that no person should ever have to endure. I salute you for coming through it all. Did you come out as a teenager? It must have sickened your parents, but it had to be the best decision you ever made.
Note to lurkers who are still "in": Every day you remain a part of this colossal farce is one more day you have stolen from your life. Take my word for it, you will never get it back.
