There is a possibility the wife and I will be in Philadelphia on 6 January to see a folk singer that night. Anybody there up for lunch? Mini-apostafest? Of course you'd need to catch the morning meeting. Respond here or PM.

Thanks so much, Blondie and Betterdaze, for the info and the links. Now we know that the company that made the $50 Million purchase from the WT, just happens to have as it's founder a JW! Small world! AND, they are listed as a major contributor to the KNOCKING "documentary", a pro-JW propoganda piece. Now why would a real-estate development company capable of making a $50 Million purchase have an interest in providing financing for a pro-JW movie? Something definitely smells funny here. Jourles, you were over a year ahead of your time! I had some exposure to the Zarembas (another major contributor to KNOCKING). Does anyone know if Walter Zaremba was called "Butch"?
Given the fact that the WT is able to cash in just one single building for $50 Million (or put another way, .05 Billion), can you begin to imagine, with all the real estate holdings, buildings, cash and investments, what they might possibly be worth? By the way, who holds title to assembly halls? Their net worth is certainly in the billions, if not the tens of billions.
Given that, wouldn't it have been nice, during the tsunami devastation or Katrina, to have read in the WT, that the WTB&TS had donated $4 Million to the Red Cross to benefit victims of those disasters on behalf of its members? They probably would hardly have missed it. How Christian is it to be so sickeningly wealthy, and not reach out to your fellow humans in crisis? For once, they would have actually gotten some good PR. But they can't do that, because then the R&F would want to follow their lead and give their money to the Red Cross too, and that means less for the WT. For starters, they should all be disfellowshipped for greed. They have certainly qualified on a level no single JW could ever do, even in their dreams.
I hope there are more revelations on this real estate transaction that is starting to smell a little like that fish that should have been cooked last night.

If they're using a "front" organization of brothers to make it look like they don't own it anymore, it wouldn't be the first time. Remember Cohi Associates? (Dick Wallace, et al) They had this phony organization composed of brothers BUY property in the 70's when they didn't want the neighbors to think the WT was the buyer, to avoid public opposition. Then Cohi would quietly turn the property over to the WT after the deed was done.

Biden stands by impeachment threat; Bush has 'damaged us' like no other adm

I'm disgusted with the entire congress of the U.S. for not impeaching these two long ago for lying us into a war that has cost so many lives, ruined so many others and destroyed our relations with other nations who used to be our friends. Why have they not acted? Is it because they feel guilty themselves for having rubber-stamped it? Then they should impeach them and then have the decency not to ever seek office again. Those two should be in jail for a very long time. If you cut Cheney's head off smoke would come out.

Hey, Simon, et al: I'll bet a lot of us here would love to know:
1.) The total number of those registered
2.) A monthly report of how many new ones registered
3.) An "Annual Report" showing any decrease/increase over previous years
It seems like we have a lot of new ones posting, but that doesn't let us know how many registered but are not posting yet. It would be nice to quantify how "as they go on decreasing, we go on increasing."
Is this doable?

From a selfish perspective, I would want you to do it for the purpose of maintaining a pipeline of "inside" information for those of us here. But I agree with AK, to live a lie is to surrender your soul. "To thine own self be true."

The "not having children" doctrine has done much damage to thousands of couples. My wife and I came in in 1973 and bought the whole thing, hook, line and sinker. We strove to be as "exemplary" as possible, thinking that meant we were following in Christ's footsteps. At the time we were in our early 20's, and influenced by this teaching, decided the truly spiritual course was to wait until the "new system" to have children, and concentrate on the preaching work during this time. Alas, now we are approaching 60. I left in 2001 and my wife in 2005. It's too late for us. If you really want children, DON'T WAIT!! We really wish we had, especially now that we realize the "new system" is a land of Oz.
Here's something to chew on, that you mentioned: How arrogant is it for ANY human being to decide which prayers God listens to and which he doesn't? Isn't that the ultimate?

Judicial Committee being formed
by Bumble Bee inyes, sad to say.
i just got back from a birthday lunch with mary, and it's true, there is going to be a jc formed because of my pagan and hedonistic ways.. she did give me one saving grace though.
she said i could "approve" of the elders that are going to take me into the back room for a little "chat"!

Hey Roy, I'd say she needs a sound spanking and private reproof. Is this for real or just a chance for fantasy?

Regional Building Committee decisions boggles even a dubs mind...
by undercover inso i'm talking to someone from my old hall and he tells me that there are some disgruntled jws (including elders) who feel like some bad decisions are being made by the rbc.. for instance, one hall needed a new roof.
an elder, in the construction business, made a deal with a local non-jw roofer that if the brothers cleared off the old shingles, the roofer would come in with his crew and do the new roof for x amount of dollars.
the rbc elder in charge got wind of that arrangement and nixed the deal.

The comments in this thread are at total variance with my experiences with RBC. My business provided security systems for many Kingdom Halls in the area over about 10 years. I provided my labor at no charge, and charged only my cost for materials. There was no profit involved. If the comments above are true, this must vary by area. In addition, I provided monthly monitoring service at my cost for years. Only recently, after years of being inactive, have I raised their rates to the going rate, and most have cancelled their contracts.

Is it possible to download the MP3 file and listen to it offline? We don't have broadband available here and it's maddening trying to listen online. It buffers for 2-3 minutes and then plays 30 seconds. Over and over. Thanks.
