in today's wall street journal there was an excellent article about stem cell research.

we are now number 2 and continually on the decline even more.

you still do not understand the science. How many times does the point have to be made that these embryos that we are discussing are NON-viable. They were given every chance to develop but for a variety of reasons, they will NEVER make it. They are not a human at this point, but a mass of half-a-dozen progenetor cells.
Now, your assertion that even bacteria "hurt", or feel pain. That is just nonsense. Pain is a sensation generated by nerve cells, transmitted electrically through a nervous system to a central processing unit (brain), where the entity's brain process these electrical impulses as "pain" stimulus. Now, six identical cells CANNOT feel, sense, comprehend, or experience pain.
Please, before you start spouting your moral superiority, try and do a little research, so that you don't sound so ill informed and insensitive.

regarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.
this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.
soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.

Whoever said that the majority is always right? Actually, from what I've seen, the majority usually act more on "mob" mentality than thought and reason.
That's exactly why the "founding fathers" rejected a pure democracy for the democratic republic that we have in the US. They knew better than to allow the generally uneducated, un-read, emotionally reactive, short sighted general populace have complete control.
In other words, the same folks that whine that the US is hypocritical for trying to keep despotic psychopathic governments from having WMD's.

imagine that you have two options.
one is to live in a village peacefully close to nature in a pleasant close knit community with all basic necessities secured for life, a home, food, transport, heating etc but no opportunity to become rich.
the second is to live in an urban environment a typically stressed life out of touch with nature but with the opportunity to make a lot of money in the long term after many years of work.
Both.
First, move to the city and make a crap load of money.
Second, retire early to the village.
