when i married my airforce husband he didnt really get upset, when i told him i needed to study the witnesses for myself to see if i truely believed the teachings he encouraged me to do so.

ive been calling him now and then to discuss the things i have been researching ( alittle bit at a time though because i didnt want to freak him out) a couple of months ago i told him about the un thing, i offered to send him the link and he requested that i send him a hard copy of the ngo letter.

It is the same here. Although my father is reasoning more with me maybe.

But at least he is still talking to you, and did not shun you (I think?).
He did encourage you to study the believe, so I guess he is brainwashed but honest. THere is still hope for him...

here's one: a jw cannot lie ' liars are subject to the "second death".

but if you "lie" for the interests of the organization, suddenly it's not a "lie" after all!

because the opposers are not "entitled" to know.

try to place a lot of magazines with 'it is good to compare other religion. etc." But if they offer you something in return and you just can't refuse them all hell brakes loose.

Movies to make a JW THINK

i've heard various suggestions of movies to show a dub.. those of us with a spouse / family in the borg might find it pretty useful to rent such movies as just another way of chipping away at the indoctrination, or drawing attention to the wts control tactics.. one movie i saw which was somewhat helpful was one called "equilibrium", which was suggested on this board a while back.

its about a society that has acheived peace and order by requiring everyone to repress their emotions through sedatory drugs.

the good thing about this one was when it showed how everyone was so indoctrinated to follow the directives of the organization in charge, with every person keeping an eye on everyone else.

The parents of Jonathan and Koen are jehovah's witnesses, but eventhough they appricaite the normal free life. They both have a girlfriend who is not a jw. In their community it is very uncommon to have friendship with people who are not Jehova witnesses. They risk being put out of te organisation. Their friends do not know also that they are jw. When they chooce for the normal life, the result is that their family and the community don't want to have anything to do with them anymore. I can not imagine that this happens in reality, but then I am not a Jehova witness.

Uitgesloten raconte l'histoire de Jonathan, un adolescent de 17 ans, Témoin de Jéhovah. Activement impliqué dans cette communauté, il vit des jours heureux grâce à l'indulgence de ses parents. Sa vie change du tout au tout lorsqu'il tombe amoureux d'une fille qui n'est pas Témoin de Jéhovah. Just some data:

A brief look at some data from the United States will serve to illustrate the point. The average continental height of the United States is 623 meters above sea level and the estimated average erosion rate is 6.1 cm/1,000 years.

But this is just a average. Some places have much more erotion then others.

Current rates of mountain uplift have been directly measured and are shown to vary from mountain range to mountain range. For example, the rate of uplift for the Swiss Alps is about 100-150 cm/1000 years while the Rocky Mountains in North America rise at the rate of 100-1000 cm/1000 years.

So the uplift is more then the erosion. But erosion in mountains is a lot higher also then average. So there is no reason to suspect that all land must be eroded away in 6000 years.

But evidence of the older universe is so overwhelming:

Dendrochronology, the dating of trees goes back over 9,000 years. With lake varies tree rings can be correlated back 40,000 years.

Consider the other things I have already written. Light from far stars etc.

Blood transfusions just a leftover?

it appears that prior to c. 1952 the watchtower was against all medical treatment.

it was then they announced that medical treatment would be a matter of conscience -- with the exception of the use of blood.

is that a fair conclusion?.

For the most part that is true. I agree with those on the board who suggest they might have gotten rid of blood transfusion ban completely if it wasn't for us apostates being so vocal about their hypocrisy ... heheh.

Don't agree at all here. I think you are overrating the influence of the apostacy. They really do not care what we say.
probably they just believe that the bible says it is like that. Or some of the old members. Maybe some need to die first.... then things can change.

An elder always told this statement to ridecule Marx. But well it caused me more to think about the Jw's then Marx actually. Anyway is that not one of the big differences between the USA and europe? That in europe (at least western europe) most people are atheists, while in the usa religion still has such a big influence? Danny
