Jehovah's Witness Nationwide Study

this is a summary of jehovah's witness and part of a nationwide study of mexico's religions.

the study indicated that jws are the fourth largest religion in mexico.

this is because many more people identified themselves as witnesses than the actual number of publishers.

Nice piece.

However does not say so much IMO.

For example:

Witnesses have a higher percentage of literacy than the rest of the country. Although women have an inferior percentage, in the case of Jehovah's Witness the gap is closer among both sexes than other religions.
Perhaps the greatest difference between JWs and the rest of the country is the lower percentage that live in rural areas and a greater percentage that live in cities with a population of 100,000 or more.

The first can be a result of the second. So there is no reason to believe that literacy is actually improved by jw's or whatever conclusion you can place.

statistics are fine and nice to see, but very hard to have a good one, where conlusions can be drawn from...
For example, studying peolpe could be much more willing to cooperate then publishers...

Depression and JW's

i don't wish to hijack the chronic fatigue thread so i started this one.

when i was a teen i suffered from severe depression brought on by emotional abuse, sexual abuse and the jw way of handling it.

i couldn't physically get out of bed, didn't know what day it was, had no desire to eat and dropped below 100 lbs.

I feel so bad to read what you have been trough.

I did not had any of these problems, but just to be the outsider when I was a kid, did make me feel very depressed. As a JW I was mostly ignored by others in my school, and had not many friends.
life just wasn't fun and thought of suicide a lot.

Later after middle-school, it went a bit better when I did not tell them my religion any more (and also I changes a bit, so did the kids/people around me as everybody became older).

I noticed however that lot of jdubs feel depressed as you never do enough.

here's one: a jw cannot lie ' liars are subject to the "second death".

but if you "lie" for the interests of the organization, suddenly it's not a "lie" after all!

because the opposers are not "entitled" to know.

The Elder who takes the Book Study Group. Goes through all the arrangements for field service for the coming week. Gives a short talk to encourage us all to support the arrangements.
So why the Hell don't we ever see him at any of the arrangements. Yet he'll report doing about 20 hours each month.

Well in my case, I had to play competetive sports on saturday. Don't know what is his reason....

CHARTERED BUSES TO BROOKLYN PROTEST AND APOSTAFEST

i am organizing a major protest rally at the watchtower society hq in brooklyn , ny, thursday, october 13 from 12:00 noon until 3:00pm with dinner and fellowship afterwards.

i am planning chartered buses from major centres in the eastern canada and usa.

i hope that this will be an historic event and make the international news.
