Not an absolute right and wrong maybe. Which is a good thing, IMHO.
For the theistic worldview, this is pretty much the same. We just see around us, that there is almost no agreement to what is good and bad for theists also.

But of course there is right and wrong. Most people will agree on the most basic laws, which almost all countries share.

So as an atheist supporting the atheist worldview one cannot say "I do GOOD things" If they do, then they are contradicting their worldview.

You seem to have a strange view on atheists here.

If someone was to push in front of you while standing in the line would you say "Hey that is not fair, I was here first" ? If the other person ignore you and say "tough luck pal"
Why not belt the living daylights out of the lunatic and show him who's master? Isn't that what the atheist worldview promote?

Well, this is basically how it is done. Children learn on this way. Not by beating the shit out of him, but by being confronted with a social group that does not accept his behaviour....

I'd consider the atheist "nobler" because they're in a position of authority (self autonomy) but are not abusing it (rather they're channeling their power for the greater good). I think that those kinds of atheists can offer more hope for humanity and the planet vs believers who let their ethics and morals be shaped by dubious religious authorities.

Nice thought. I do not mean to be black and white here. In some ways there is very little difference. I started this thread after because somewbody told me that if I did not believe that I could not do good at all. He was a christian that felt he was much superior to me because of his faith....

i think that in the end it doesn't matter. plus, i am not sure what would constitute a consistent and unambiguous definition of "high moral", "good" and "bad"? these things are simple for many transcendentalists because their god does their thinking for them, or i should say, the writers of their holy books have done all the thinking for them. but these things are difficult for an atheist/empiricist to come to agreement on in a wide spectrum of human based interactions. especially if an atheist is also an anarchist, or nihilistic in her views.

It seems to me that it is more difficult for theists to come to conclusions of what is good morality, then atheists. Theists have a wide range of views on it, atheists too, but with atheists it is more discusable.

I agree to you that it some ways is not a big point, or at least for atheists it will not be. But in some other ways it could. Especially since some theists think of atheists as being moraly bad...

The question of what is good and bad is beyond this issue I want to raise here... Poppers / IP_Sec:

Right - an atheist would never ever sacrifice his life to save another.

do you find yourself scanning the posts of new ones here hoping in the back of your mind that it's a friend or relative who has finally "seen the light"?.

there are several people i am always watching for.... my best friend from high school, the only friend i was allowed to have since she was the only girl my age in the kh.

and my brothers... extremely bright and intelligent guys, but very wrapped up in gaining my fathers and the congregations approval.

i never saw this happen at my meeting.

I know of one item in the school for elders and minis. that it was told that the conductor should never ask somebody to read a text, answer a question etc.

still it is done often.

I remember one time a brother asked who like field service. everybody except me raised thir hands. Then the brother asked me (unfoluntairy) why I did not like it. I almost coult not speak, because it was unexpected. Then I said something that I knew much more did not like it but did not had the courage to not raise their hands.
After the meeting some people came to me and agreed with me... Then why did they raise their hands.....

the all knowing god?

dont know if this has been discussed or not...but.... it always bothered me when people claimed that god is all knowing... what exactly does that really mean or can mean?.

after all, according to all, there was some point when only god existed and so its pretty easy to be all knowing when there is nothing to know.. but why should we assume that a being who had no one teach him and nothing to learn from could be anything but insane?.

we should trust god, some have told me, because he made everything and therefore knows everything about what he made... sorry, but that does not follow at all.. my subconscious, apparently, seems to be able to manifest many dreams of very complex things which leaves me puzzled as to their workings not understanding them at all..... the bible shows god to be less than all knowing on many occasions, especially in genesis 18:20-21 where he is going to investigate a report that has come to him.... from where or who we are not told.... but it makes it clear he is desiring to find out if the report is accurate or not... .

1. prophecies say nothing even if they come true about God seering into the future. If you are almighty it is very easy to arrange exactly as you told before.

2. How could God not know the future (that is for us the future)>
If God created everything, he created time and the universe. This means that he himself is not influenced by time. This in turn means that there is no present and future for him. He is omnipresence not only in space but also in the 4th dimension: time.

3. consider there is no God, then all problems seem to dissapear.....

Yes I have.

It is interesting (not that I think it has any significance)

first of all, the start dat of the mayan calember is not 100% sure.

I thought that they believe that at the end of each cycle the world is re-created, after it will end in some kind of desctruction. I have been told that this time it is an end wih fire.

I wonder how mayans will look forward to this day....
