too many meetings. They don't want to exert themselves. They don't want

wont take Friday off for the convention. They reserve many weekends for
leisure. Where do they get their enjoyment; from a weekend away from
Christian activities with their brothers or with the brothers in
theocratic activities? Sometimes their parties and weddings become
Baal-like. They slow down in service and meetings to get more material
prosperity. They say pioneering is not for everyone, but a university
education is very important. They will offer up their children on the
altar of education. The Canaanites were destroyed, we don't want to be.

See there, its all our fault! We just don't apreciate having that heavy yoke on our necks! Instead of heading off camping, we should spend the weekend in "thocratic activities"!

Doesn't that just make you yearn to go to the next meeting, knowing the "slave" thinks so highly of you?

"Sometimes people in the territory will say that the faithful slave is not
a true prophet because of all the mistakes they have made over the years.
While it is true that they are not a prophet (Brother Lett said they are
students of bible prophecy) we can point to the fact that even in the
bible true prophets made erroneous statements. When David wanted to
build the temple, Nathan said at 1 Chron 17:2 "everything that is in your
heart do, for the true God is with you" This wasn't the case and Jehovah
quickly told Nathan that it would be one of David's sons that would build
it. In verse 15 Nathan again spoke to David and related the truth. We
see here that Nathan had it wrong, but then fixed it quickly. The
faithful slave also can have something wrong too but they will quickly
fix it when it comes to their attention. Christendom is not this way at
all. They will adhere to wrong ideas and doctrines for hundreds or
thousands of years without changing. One of our instructors sent a
letter to the Vatican about the comma in Luke 23:43 and they wrote back
saying that we had it right but they couldn't change because of
tradition. How glad we are that Jehovah's people lovingly respond to his
direction!"

Oh the depths of spiritual insight here!

So, you see, all the dozens of 180 degree turns & flip-flops over the years...Will the inhabitants of Sodom & Gomorrah receive a resurrection? Who are those "superior authorities" of Romans 13? Should you scream or not while being raped?...All that is a sign of Jehovah's spirit! In fact, the more often the teachings change, the more evidence that we have Jehovah's spirit! Not like that apostate Christendom that actually has the temerity to hold to core doctrines for centuries!

I'm sure others here would like to post how these winsome words have upbuilt their faith as well...

i just answered a question "off the top of my head" to a question which brought to my mind something that i heard at a talk at our assembly that has "bothered" me and i am hoping for some clarification as i would never want to be accused of what this topic is about .... .

it was a talk at our recent assembly that brought out a 'new one' for me ...or perhaps i just haven't heard of it as yet ... .

Anointed disfellowshipping replacement reinstatement

an elders wife told my wife today that yes there are young anointed people because they are replacements for those who have fallen away.

she also said that if an anointed should fall away and then get reinstated they are still anointed.

i can just picture jesus spending 6 months or so picking out a suitable replacement in disgust at the one he picked first time around fell away.

So it seems we have a bunch of interlopers who don't apply the fine loving counsel of the WT that only other really old geezers would replace the unfaithful really old geezers.

I once heard it explained this way:

Someone becomes anointed, becomes one of the 144,000.

He sins, falls away, gets disfellowshipped, whatever.

He is still considered "anointed", and is counted as one of the 144,000, even while outside of "the truth", until death. His "spot" in the group of 144,000 is kind of "reserved" for him. He can get reinstated any time at all, up to the point of his death, and still gets the ticket to heaven.

But, if he dies, that's it--he died out of God's favor, so no trip to heaven.

At that time, the time of his death, a replacement anointed person is selected.

So, you might have a guy who was anointed in 1930, got D-F'ed in 1970, never went back, but only died in 2005.

And voila! Suddenly, in 2005, there is a need for a new anointed one, to replace the one who hadn't been in the org. since 1970, but whose spot in the 144,000 still had his name on it.

Don't ask me about the logic of the above, this ws just how it was explained.

A blonde is watching the TV news, and sees a report about a kidnapping of a small child, and the large ransom that was paid.

"Hmm, I could do that, get a little extra money" she thinks to herself.

So she goes down to the playground, looking for a kid withoout his parents around.

She sees one, and calls him over. She proceeds to write a ransom note, "Put $5000 in small bills in a brown paper bag, and leave it at the playground tomorrow at noon, or you'll never see your son again...signed, A Blonde."

She then pins the note on the kid & says "Now go home and show this note to your mom." And off he goes.

So the next day, the blonde returns to the playground at noon. Sure enough, there is a brown paper bag there.

She goes to open the bag, and it is filled with 10's and 20's. But on top of the money, is a note.

The note reads, "How could you do this to a fellow blonde???"

my question is, what is the big deal about going to high school prom?

other than the usual bad associations spoil useful habits, can anybody thing of other specific reasons why jdubs are so anti-prom.

This was a lecture given by a Bethel "heavy" during a Gilead class. I would assume that anything taught in such a setting would be carefully monitored & vetted.

Of course, as AlanF noted, this may be a case of his personal thoughts leaking through despite the controlled setting.

So if this is the "personal doctrinal conservatism of the speaker", rather than an offical position, wouldn't he get called on the carpet for teaching such a personal view?

Or do they cut him some slack because he's an old-timer?

"...Brother Liverance gave a fascinating talk on Bible chronology. With one secular fixed date of 539 BCE we can go all the way back to the birth of Adam in 4026 BCE. Its interesting to see how Jehovah gave gave just enough information in the Bible to allow us to do that. He certainly is a GOD of economy - never too much but always just enough. We were reminded that a creative day was likely 7000 years and so Jehovah's rest day would begin with the last creation - Eve. We don't know the date of her creation but guess who does? The angels and the demons - especially Satan since he was likely in the garden when she was created. The last 1000 years of the rest period begins with the end of Armageddon and the start of the millenial reign. So, in effect Satan probably knows the time when Armageddon will end and the millenial reign will start he just doesn't know exactly when Armageddon will begin. "Nobody knows the day or the hour only the father." Therefore when Revelation says that when Satan was thrown down to the earth he KNEW his time was short - he likely knew from chronology when the final curtain would be. He just doesn't know when Armagedon will begin or how long it will last. Interesting eh?

That means at this point in time, Adam walked alone in the garden of Eden, talking with Jehovah for some 30 years or more. In 30 years of time you would think that he got to know Jehovah really well. He never really cultivated a strong love for Jehovah and when his wife came along (she likely sinned shortly after her creation) he chose her over Jehovah. This detail reminds me that just because we have deicated our lives to Jehovah and served him for years, it doen't necessarily prove that we love him from our heart..."

So there you have it...creative days were "likely 7000 years", as taught to the "cream of the crop", the 2005 Gilead class. Suppose they will be amending the "Creator" book to use this more precise measurement?
