recently overheard some jw relatives talking, the term we're in the "last days of the last days" was being used frequently, i didn't want to ask them, it would of turned into an argument.
wtf does this imply?
is anyone else hearing this?

some jw's came to our home yesterday and my hubby got out of a bath to answer the door.
they left him a magiazine, not sure what it is.
it did not have awake or watchtower on it.
"Keep on the Watch" is the title of a brochure that came out in 2004. Just like "What Does God Require of US" and other brochures.
The JW who left it there was probably quite happy. Having a "brochure placement" on his monthly report carries more cache than just a "magazine" placement.
The Watchtower and Awake are still going strong, althought he Awake goes to monthly (instead of twice amonth) next year.
You can look forward to more "return visits" (even more cache on the month-end report for the JW).
i just read that kate moss has been given more modelling jobs now that she's been a whole month "clean" of using cocaine which is how she kept her body at skin and bones.
i hear lots of women say they'd "love to have a body like hers", when we know the only way she can keep that skinny is by using drugs.
i was told that i was "just jealous" and that "all women would like to be that thin.
I would pick no.2, even if no. 1 were more than a red X.
Or is that really a pic of Kate Moss in a yoga position?

I for one am disappointed that this thread has gone so long without any photos whatsoever.
i was antique crazy years ago.
used to go to all the sales i could.
i went to an estate sale and fell head over heels for a large ornate brass bed.
I've never understand this kind of thinking.
OK, suppose I'm a demon. I have superhuman strength. I am evil beyond words. I am made of the same "stuff" as the angel that killed 185,000 Assyrians in one night, and I want nothing better than to torment and kill God's true worshippers.
So what do I do with all this power and malicious intent?
I hang around a brass bed, hoping someone buys it, so I can...what? Tickle their toes in the middle of the night?
keep on the watch!
this warning: "keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day.
true christians--only jws.
Our WT conductor is as old-school as old-school can get.
During one of the latter paragraphs, one of the ones about how all this stuff should be affecting our life, I was awakened out of my usual alpha-state trance by an unusual-even-for-him diatribe about how "This is really important! This should be affecting our lives! We should be worried about these things, not...(dramatic pause)...setting our VCRs to record a TV program while we are at the meeting or planning where we will go on vacation 10 months from now!!!"
Curiously, our PO has been openly stating his plans or a vacation about 10-12 months or so from now--he's planning a cruise & telling many about it, so "as many as want to can sign up to go on the same cruise".
I'm glad I wasn't sitting in the first few rows, I may have been covered by spittle & froth.
i have a question - the society laments about those jw's who ignore "wisdom from above" to pioneer after high school but go to college instead.. they use a fictional account of timothy rejecting higher education at the drama this year.. they scream in the oct 1st wt that university (consisting of four years) is bad and ask rheotorical questions to parents such as, "christian parents, is this what you really want for your children?".
if the act of going to college campus was so bad, why doesn't the society permit "online degrees?
" - these are more cost effective and just as valuable as a traditional campus based ecuation.. so what is it about going to university that really upsets them?.
I vote both.
The Society is nothing if not reactionary. I imagine this latest diatribe against higher education stems from Circuit Overseer reports about children going off to college and "drifting away from the faith". Likely, this is because college in general awakens one's critical thinking abilities (and how well do the Society's teaching hold up to critical thought)?
So on the one hand, the act of going to college is discouraged.
An online degree might seem a reasonable alternative, to someone not familiar with the JW mindset. But how does one get an online degree? Online! I.e. the internet, which is scandalized and demonized by virtually every article or talk which touches upon it.
Plus, if one has a degree, in general he will have a higher paying job (or, heaven forbid! a satisfying career), and the message of "this current world is awful, so you should expend yourself to get to the next one" will not be as effective.
So on the other hand, actually attaining a degree is discouraged.
The irony is, if a JW somehow manages to wade thru the minefield of college and emerge with a degree, particularly in law or engineering, he will be in extraodinarily high demand in Bethel, and the usual requirements for entry will be curtailed or even waived.
from september 2004 to july 2005, there has been no increase in the number of publishers reporting for the 2005 service year, which began last september.
september 2004 - 990,551 .
october 2004 - 993,476 .
First decrease in the US since the late 70's, when the fallout from the 1975 debacle was still being felt.
Wonder what the spin on this one will be in the February WT article discussing the worldwide report?
Imagine what the numbers would look like without the still-huge increases in the foreign language congregations. Did I read somehere that over 200,000 of the JWs in the US are in Spanish language congregations?
Amongst the English-speaking congregations, I'd bet a nicket that the decrease is more like 3 or 4%, instead of the 1% overall decrease.
in articles concerning the internet, some of which have been titled "a balanced view of the internet", the watchtower devotes the first paragraph or two to the benefits that the internet offers and has provided.
.
then for the rest of the article they go on and on about the dangers and evils of the internet.. they have been consistent in writing in this manner in all the articles they have written concerning the internet.. can the watchtower itself truly be said to have a "balanced" view of the internet?.
You'd never make it as a WT writer!
The article is filled with all sorts of loaded language that JWs have been conditioned to respond to...
What are some of the dangers that are of particular concern to Christians? Should they cause you to avoid using the Internet?
We hope you answer yes!
the Bible warned of dangers posed by evil men described as “master[s] at evil ideas” and “scheming to do bad.” ( Proverbs 24:8 ) The prophet
See there? The internet is full of "evil men"! What does the Bible say about "bad asociation?
Like wicked men in Bible times, pornographers frequently employ deception.
Wicked, wicked men!
Internet chat rooms can be time wasters and are increasingly associated with relationship breakdowns.
Your time is better spent in the ministry! Plus your marriage will fail!
“But wisdom itself—from where does it come?”
Certainly not Google!
selfish and greedy attitudes that can wreck our family and destroy our relationship with .
The inevitable consequence of spending time on the internet!
Put on your JW hat...what words are the ones they want you to associate with "the internet"? Evil, selfish, greedy, destroy, wreck, breakdown, deception, evil, danger, ruinous, bad, things God hates, trouble, serious problems, evil desires, frightening, sex offenders, pedophiles, shock, shame, guilt, seduce, addiction.
And the positive side? Umm....oh yeah! Indian farmers can check the price of soybeans!

So where in that article does the WT forbid using the internet?
silly wabbit!
The WT never forbids anything! They just remind you that "true Christians" will or won't do such and such. "Thinking persons" agree that XYZ is a bad idea. "Could one conclude that a lover of Jehovah would engage in ....?" (Rhetorical question) Etc. Etc. Etc.
