It was not so much how it happened, it's that there was a v positive outcome. This got me wondering about guides as I am a little gunshy of gods and spirits in the literal sense after becoming agnostic/atheist thanks to jw experience....
who made up the words "the truth" .
if this was an invention, they would be millionaires.
being called the truth really sets the statement apart from lets say.....the lies.
To say you have the truth allows you to stop (re)searching for any higher wisdom or knowledge. It's comfortable like warm fire in winter, lulling you to sleep.
All the angst over life and death is gone because the truth has given you all the (simple)answers. god will fix everything ,so why worry about being a polluter a rapacious consumer, or be concerned for our fellow beings?

Long story but basically I had checked into a room without giving my name(common in Asia). I emailed my sister for her details as I was ill and needed her phone number in case it got worse. I went back to my room and realised in my illness that I had told her the incorrect name of the hotel. I was so weak, I figured a quick nap and I would email her back.
I woke out of a deep sleep to hear the telephone in the foyer ringing. I just had a gut feeling that it was my sister, tottally irrational. I walked in to hear the local guy saying madam, madam no English. I tried to get his attention but he was so flustered he would'nt listen.
I wrestled the phone from him and just said, Brookes? She yells Andy!!
I said how the hell did you find me? She said my guides said you are in trouble, so I just went to the internet and looked up accomodation in Sri Lanka....
There are literally thousands of accomodation places in SL.
We haven't had a chance to talk in detail about this yet but suffice to say the mathematical odds of reaching me so quickly under those circumstances ( no address, no name, me waking up and having the conviction to take the phone from the owner) are pretty thin and yes I often think of her just before I get a call and no we are not frequent communicators

well, here in tx, it is almost 6am.. i have been up all night....i have had a lot of insomnia lately, ack...and since i went to bed really late friday(actually saturday morning about 5am) and didn't get up until the afternoon saturday, i figured it would be better to just stay up all night and try again to sleep like a normal human being sunday night.. ack....how about the rest of you?.
i am listening to tori amos and surfing the web in between loads of laundry hahah.

i've been thinking, if the jws won't allow smoking, excessive drinking, or the alteration of the outer body, do they also have rules about caloric, saturated fat, transfat, and sodium intake?
these things can be just as harmful to the body in the long run.
To me it's more of an addiction issue.
I knew countless witnesses who used food as a comfort to the point of being grossly obese.
One guy I worked with would knock off a tub of ice cream every single night after stuffing himself on junk all day. He would get physically distressed if separated from food too long( like between morning tea and lunch). His hip joints collapsed at 40 and he now is an invalid pensioner. He was also made an elder at the same time.

i was inspired by the "most hated analogies" thread.. a brother giving the public talk one sunday told the most ridiculous story.
i couldn't even swallow it when i was "in.".
i'll try not to laugh while i'm typing this.. once upon a time, in a land far, far away... someone planted a bomb in a kingdom hall.
Yeah happened in Sydney in the 80's if my memory serves me well.
As I recall it was planted by an irate exhusband of a jw.
The "miracle" was more to do with the inexperience of the bomb maker rather than divine intervention. Most of the explosion went up rather than out.
I worked on the quick build to replace the hall. We thought we were working in a war zone.....
