After exiting jw's, I realised that I had been living other people's expectations of me, especially my spirituality. When I asked myself "Who are you?" I came to the staggering conclusion that I couldn't answer that question with any clarity. I was truly born again in the sense that I went searching for identity and now realise that this is the wonder of old age, finding my true self and being comfortable with that. I, like Flipper and Talesin get inspiration, wisdom and peace from the natural world. Actually I just returned from camping on aboriginal sacred land just now. I saw two eagles soaring yesterday and a few of the elders danced around the fire last night. Better than any stuffy meeting in a suit and tie!

Since exiting the Witnesses have you Become More " Spiritual " ? - Not ........
by flipper in..... necessarily more religious, but more spiritual in a non-religious way ?
although being religious is one of the definitions os " spiritual " it encompasses much more in the webster's new world dictionary , under the word spiritual it's definition is : " 1. of the spirit or the soul as distinguished from the body or material matters 2. of, from, or concerned with the intellect ; intellectual 3. of or consisting of spirit ; not corporeal 4. characterized by the ascendancy of the spirit ; showing much refinement of thought and feeling 5. of religion or the church ; sacred, devotional, or ecclesiastical ; not lay or temporal 6. spiritualistic or supernatural .
quite a variety of definitions !

Aboriginal Australians Aren't Black?!
by Philadelphia Ponos init's very rare that i visit this site these days and even rarer that i start a thread, but ever so often i see a comment so outrageous that i just have to respond.
in a thread entitled "are black people more emotional than white people", the op made the following comment concerning the lack of "black people" in australia:"we have the australian aboriginal people butthey are a different race more related to white people i beleive.
" the bad spelling and grammer isn't the only thing wrong with this sentence.

They didnt invade with military force
...was speared in the shoulder and told his soldiers not to fire on the natives.
Barry is looking like a troll. Surely you realise that Australia's first settlement was a penal colony, the rum rebellion was over soldiers being paid in rum rather than wages. Force was clearly used by the miltary when the "natives" stood up and fought for their land.
What really is your point Barry?

Tinnitus - are you afflicted?
by Glander intap a spoon on a crystal goblet - the ringing sound never stops.
sometimes birds also chirp, it is always there.. otc remedies are useless.
mine started with a workplace situation that could have been prevented with simple ear plugs, but in those days nobody knew that extreme noise over a prolonged time could cause aural nerve damage.

I have had tinnitus since I was a child, so in a sense I am lucky, as I grew used to it. Yrs of dancing in front of massive speakers at festivals didn't help. This may seem strange but the way I dealt with it was to love it, not fear it. Some people get obsessed with the ringing, so cause mental health issues on top of the affliction.

I just googled the Atlanta and was reminded that the hotel reserves the right to not except you (even if you've booked) if they don't like the look of you!! LOL! Worth looking at their website.

I always get to threads late!!
The nicest, well the most unusual and quirky hotel I have stayed at by a long shot was The Atlanta hotel in Bangkok. I am too lazy to upload photos but I can give you an idea of what it's like. The place is straight out of the 1930's/40's. When I arrived, I went staright to the pool. There was only one guest lazing on a sun chair. She had bright red lipstick, a huge floppy hat, thirties swimmers and sunglasses on and was lazily smoking a cigarette in a 12 inch cigarette holder! She gave me a look of disdain and turned her head. Greta Garbo? This was 2008!
I was to find out that the uber rich never stay in the high towers while visiting Bangkok. They search out this bizarre little piece of history. The staff are surly and rude, the hot water is even hit and miss. Try to complain and you will get a "dressing down" as all fitings are original from 70 years ago...There are two pet tortoises called Doris and Archibald named after Doris Day and Carey Grant which hobble around eating the plants.

I agree and the obligatory cuddle after....Oh dear! It's the 21st century, do men really need to be reminded to show a little intimacy?
