Clearly the article is "tongue in cheek" but what many fail to understand is that economically we need the poor. Imagine the inflation if all were millionaires. Unsustainable. Also who are the market for business to sell to? We all pay goods and services taxes, rich and poor (VAT, GST) and we all contribute to money flushing through the economic system. Low wage earners are the backbone of economics and polititions know this, so never seriously take on wage inequity, the unemployed or others on welfare etc.

Controversial essay- cull 20% of the poor.
by fulltimestudent ina controversial essay is part of aussie news today.. the essence of it is that the state needs to kill about 20% of the poorest in the community, to fix its financial problems.
it is, of course, claimed to be 'tongue-in-cheek,' but is there a sound basis to the concept?
i sound very right-wing in saying that, but i live opposite a boarding house that is full of people who, i guess, would be prime candidates for the cull.

Interesting stuff. I flicked through the video as there is nothing as boring as listening to someone talk about their individual dreams! LOL! In my opinion, there are many forms of dreams as noted in the article. Some are big as in life changing, others are just expressing emotions that may not be socially acceptable to express in public. I taught my self to control the outcome of dreams because I wanted to remove the morbid fear associated with nightmares (now called lucid dreaming). I cannot remember the last time I had a nightmare. At this point I believe that dreams are created via naturally occuring DMT and its purpose is to help us understand and improve the human condition.

Is 'evil' an invention of man??
by Monsieur inrecently i read some essays on animal behavorial patterns and i must say i'm shocked at how little difference (when you honestly consider it) there is between said animals and us, human beings.. this is a very new concept for me personally but here is my take on it (i'm sure its not so new, ex.
evolution) - what if humans in fact are mimicking animals, and not the other way around as we'd like to think.. displays of love and affection, clinginess, mourning etc, they all exist in the animal kingdom, but how are we so different?
a pack of wolves attack and kill a caribou for dinner and its considered nature, the same wolves hunt down a lost man in the woods and now its considered 'evil', and if there are any forest rangers around its guaranteed that they will shoot these wolves.. man's heartless treatment of man is considered 'evil', but if evolution is of any indication (in terms of survival of the fittest) is the 'term' evil just a word to appease our so called conscious?.

When evolution brought us self awareness we started to understand our limited life span bringing a feeling of futility. Why so short? Why not forever? Also it brought us fear of being alone and of death. Recipe for creating gods.

Procreation and death appear to be the basic motivators of humans and animals. So called moral standards will disappear in the instant of an emergency, say a fire in a niteclub. Most are killed in the stampede. Also go to a niteclub and watch the male/female behaviour. Hilarious that it is so close to animals. And yes, evil is in the eye of the beholder, so is a construct to be used to control others.

World media is controlled by what, three people? All Conservative. Murdoch loved her as his personal fortune sky rocketed under her regime. It's pay back time.

Neo-Nazi Buddhists persecute Muslims in Myanmar.
by fulltimestudent inin myanmar and thailand, islam is a minority religion and the buddhists are supreme.. both nations are the scene of atrocities committed by buddhists against muslims, (the difference is that in thailand, muslims have been fighting back).. this asia times report tries to analyse the myanmar problems.
myanmar's neo-nazi buddhists get free rein: .
(which is another way of saying that neither the government or aung san suu kyi's opposition party speaks agains the persecution).

"The dark side of human nature is a constant, no matter what label people take for themselves."
I agree and believe that is supported by religion expecting perfection from followers. There is this encouragement to suppress and even negate the dark side of human nature. If openly acknowleged the shadow can be expressed and released but if hidden..
That is why I like and respect Balinese Hinduism. They say there is a balance between light and dark in all aspects of life.

Depends on what kind of parent she is. I know single mothers with kids who are a pleasure to be around, so the sacrifice of no "single" time would be compensated by being part of a family. On the other hand, I know single mothers who are hopeless at parenting and their kids are like feral cats! The danger for us decent guys is that children whether they want to or not will see you (eventually) as dad. If there is a breakup the poor kids can be distraught. I have been there but thankfully could keep contact with the little one. She is now eleven and flourishing.

I listened to his talk and there were no surprises, balance tolerance self discipline. Interesting that he now talks about all religions having truth giving India as an example of religions having respect for each other, as he said the opposite 10 years ago. Also accepting all the different streams of Buddhism. I have gone to MaCleod Ganj (India) to one of his sessions and have gone to a session with the young man he has endorsed as his successor and have walked away underwhelmed.... As noted above he (inmy opinion) is just a funny pope. We have Tibetan monks living in my area and raising money, while driving a brand new suv seems a priority.
