  BIG talk with teenage son today

  yesterday i got to ask my kids what they thought of the convention they just had.

  response was 'really good'.

  daughter liked the drama but could not say why or what the lesson was... so i figure she liked it because it was more interesting than the regular talks.

  Only you know your son Oz

  I have been a youth worker for over 15 yrs and in my experience, example is the best teacher. If you have your life together, are stable and contented, your son will compare your life decisions with the jws he sees in his congregation. When my son was still in, I didn't talk about jws at all, just my life and his. You are spot on in "having his back". When the elders turned nasty, I was there and now he trusts me totally and is old enough to "have my back" as well.

  I never wanted to be his mate, just his dad.

  i know a lot of women, not just younger women, that have tats.

  i wouldn't have one but that's because i don't need the pain..

  I have numerous tatts and I don't care what others think. I put them on my body for me, not to impress others. They are reminders of highlights in my life. A story book if you like.

  My 'cross to bear' so to speak

  nothing in life is free... not even freedom.

  it's the weekend for my kids to come down and it seems dear old dad just aint that important anymore.... son who now has his licence has left school to work (i found out on facebook) and seems to be too busy, daughter has a party (with j dubs) she wants to go to saturday night.

  of course the mother is delighted by this...as they are a two hour drive away it just stuffs up the whole weekend really.

  I went through a similar situation 10 yrs ago. The way I see it, if your boy has now got a licence and is working, he may get a wider friend base away from the jws.

  That happened with my boy and with so many elders having kids of a similar age, they were just itching for him to put a foot wrong, because he could have been a bad associate(LOL) for their little darlings.

  They got him. Ironically, it was his honesty when asked that got him booted out. The other little gutless buggers just lied (to daddy).

  Don't know about your daughter though. Mine had the brains to get out before me!

  The technology for world wide recording of accurate data has only been around, for what, 20yrs? All those little (and not so little) eartkquakes in Asia and even here in Australia were just facts of life, not recordable incidents. It'a bullshit.

  As a Man have your Attitudes Towards Women Changed since Exiting JW's ?

  being raised in the jehovah's witness cult - i saw so many times what would be referred to as " supportive wives " wait after meetings for an hour, two hours, even more until midnight for husbands who met in backrooms meeting to decide on judicial matters if some individual witness was righteous - or not.

  wives of elders were expected to do this to show submission and alleged " respect " for the headship arrangement or eldership of their husbands !

  Actually, that's a very difficult question to answer. One of the many tiny cracks in my faith years ago was the treatment of women, esp intelligent savy women married to dumbass elders who threw the headship title around.

  Since leaving 10 or 12 yrs ago, I had do a fast catch up socially with women. I was very innocent really, so had to learn to be discerning as far as who I let into my life. Respect ebbed and flowed but at this very moment, I give all, women and men an initial total respect. It is up to them if that respect continues.

  My relationships with women are so much more fulfilling now, whether friends or lovers and I don't have to marry them!! LOL!

  you do not have to be disfellowshipped, even if you were shunned after being marked or after fading.

  all comments are welcome, such as who shunned you, how long since family have spoken to you, what your situation is, why you are being shunned and how it has made you feel.

  I truly appreciate the shunning, as I don't want any connection to jehovah's witnesses (including so called family members). Gives me a giggle to be "shunned" in public by the town wackos. I guess it is sad really, as they think it is such a big deal but it ain't.

  My only cringe is when I remember that at one time I did the same......

  For Perry: There was no global flood, so stop looking for Noah's Ark

  forget about noahs ark; there was no worldwide flood.

  many people have contacted me about the recent claims by a group called noahs ark ministries international.1 the evangelical organization claims to have discovered noahs ark.2 i have responded on several occasions to these dubious claims on my blog.3 and still, this group has stood behind their claim,4 insisting that what they have found is real based largely on the belief that because the bible says the flood and the ark are historical, it must be so.

  so, instead of addressing their spurious claims yet again, i thought i would approach the issue from a different angle: forget about noahs ark; there was no world-wide flood.. the worldwide flood described in genesis 6-9 is not historical, but rather a combination of at least two flood stories, both of which descended from earlier mesopotamian flood narratives.

  I always used to squirm as a witness when the expanse argument was used to explain water in the atmosphere. It is patently clear that the expanse is the distance between the planet and the CLOUDS, which are 100% water.

  Primitive people would see water streaming out of the clouds and think that there was a vaste water supply "in the heavens". They would have had no understanding of condensation.

  I guess though if people really believe that springs opened up in the "watery deep" to assist this flooding, I am wasting my time buying into this....

  Is Man's Spirituality Deeply Embedded in The Unconscious Under a "God Image" Archetype?

  i think this was one jung's main ideas.

  and that tending to our spiritual side is import for good health mentally,,and that the psyche is designed to go thru a maturation process toward wholeness, at what ever level it of consciousness it can reach and that level in some way effects the entire human collective of consciousness/unconscious.. the world comes into existence by being made known,, the whole evolution of mankind and way of thinking consciously has been in that direction ever since we ate the forbidden fruit of consciousness it's evolution is like a macrocosm of the microcosm that goes on with each individual human..

  Yeah I really enjoy reading Jung. He certainly put the "cat amongst the pidgeons" as far as excepted thinking of his time. I have found him a little elusive when directly asked if he believed in god. His best response "i don't believe, I know".

  Despte his disdain for hinduism and India in general, Jung practiced yoga all his life. Interesting character and certainly one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century.
