i've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!

i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).

had health issues that saw me catapulted away from 'the centre of the cong' and wow what a different place that was!

You write well and certainly brought back memories for me.

It's a sad little world the jws inhabit and I felt truly "born again" when I finally left it's orbit.

i actually have had dealings with rod and found him to be a very reasonable and "non-robotic" man in the past.. i know it should not surprise me, but i was disappointed to hear his lies and half-truths.. they know their stuff and are not easily led, but he tried to lead the royal commission to believe that 2 people could be involved in investigating a claim - which is wrong.. his lack of memory on what parts of the judicial process are biblical - hello - none are.

there are no scriptures that backup the use of 3 men, a body of elders, cutting people off from family and friends, restrictions, etc.. he also lied about the gb being involved in policy creation and changes.. his statement that in all cases, elders are told to inform parents that they can go to the authorities and get the full support of the congregation is not verifiable.

Hey Smiddy excellent point. Here is an article from 2012 which covers this exact case. The woman loses a defamation case against the elders on a technicality but the basis of the article is this woman talking to another sister about her ex's wrongdoing even showing a photo of him with another woman on holiday.

The elders disfellowship HER (!) for slander!!

These guys have been coached. All claim to have not read the material sent by the RC. All claim to know nothing about the RC despite it being covered in all media in Oz.

All are claiming poor memory but then can recall points of how the "society" assisted in these cases (in detail).

I agree with Ozman. The wt lawyers are only keeping their arguement to "We were only following the law back as it was when these cases came up." and "We are now at the cutting edge of religious organisations who protect children." In other words they are not liable for compensation from the cases highlighted by the Commission.

It's all about the bucks and The Chief Justice and Angus Stewart know that.They are laying careful foundations for a compensation case e.g. why they destroyed that "expert" witness and why they are hammering each elder to admit that they didn't follow legal procedure on the say of the branch and the wider wt material.
