Biting my tongue at last nights bookstudy
by GBSJG inso i went to last nights bookstudy which discusses 6 paragraphs of the daniel book so there was lots of room for comment.
the study itself already was pretty frustrating it was taken from chapter 17 paragraphs 24-29 and it goes on about how the fds has to be lead by jehovah because of all the prophecies of daniel that fits them (1335 days was this convention to that etc etc).
but the paragraphs also mention the failed prediction for 1925. here are some interresting quotes from the book: .

Hmmm...I remember those kind of comments. It feels like everyone is trying to convince themselves about this nonsense by saying it outloud. And when you hear everyone stating some facts as if pure logic, you start to beleive it too...I guess that's why studies like that exist. The WT knows it's psychology.

I'll just pick it up in the New System...
by limbogirl inmany years ago while driving with some jw friends in the car we stopped to get sodas.
one of the jw's finishes her soda, opens the car door and tosses out the can.
i was incredulous and said, "what are you doing?

Hmmm...that would be a perfect moment to remember that verse they love so much...you know about God destroying those who destroy the earth...

Visit from Prince. He rang the door bell...
by Smiles inproselytizing for jehovah's witnesses during last sunday's vikings game wasn't the smoothest call prince has ever made.
an eden prairie woman, who prefers to be identified only as rochelle, said, "door bell rings.
my husband runs upstairs and says, `prince is at the door!

...hehehe, and then you stop and think to yourself...can you imagine Jesus or his apostles even wondering about something like how many hours they did.lol

Visual Methodologies and Watchtower Illustrations
by slimboyfat ini have been reading a fascinating book about various strategies for studying the meaning of images: visual methodologies by gillian rose.
various approaches covered include compositional analysis, content analysis, psychoanalysis, semiology and discourse analysis.
it struck me how ripe watchtower imagery would be to such scrutiny, and how subtle trends in ideological emphases may be identified through the visual iconography that may be less apparent in the overt expositions of watcthower written texts.

The JWs, a petty minded and ungrateful lot
by greendawn inthe jws are being grossly unfair and unrealistic when they say that they owe nothing to the rest of world, for example many ppl had to die in order to defeat fascism and they the jws were certainly spared much grief by the defeat of such dictatorial and ruthless powers.
democratic governments are very civilised in their behaviour towards the jws perhaps too civilised.
but they will never once admit it.

What was the verse....you know, the one about being ready to die for your brother?

Hindsight is 20/20: What were your signs?
by divejunkie inwhat i mean is now that you are out of the wt; do you ever think back at something you innocently said or did when you still believed or you were little that now feels like a sign that you would someday get out of the bullsh*t?
for me, growing up in the jw's, i feel there were signs of my "goat hairs" even way back then.
** even as a child, every saturday morning i would spend at least 10 or 15 minutes trying to figure out what to say to get out of going to field service .

Things that might have been noticed- Went to college, never pionnered (what a waste of time!), worked on an assembly Friday, didn't hang out with JW kids, was forced to comment and prepare study, would fake sick.
Signs to myself- would falsify my hours and placements. Would try to go out mostly with old ladies or children so would be in charge of doors (and only pick the ones that seemed to be not at homes...lol) being depressed every meeting day and on Friday nights thinking of Saturday morning..., trying to find stuff in the Bible that clashed with what I was thought while sitting at the meetings and underlining them (good preparation for being an apostate);P, not feeling spiritual at ALL!.........After that, I realised that I wasn't at the right place.
