Doesn't it make you long for Old Testament times? When the first time you have sex was the marriage. Made things so much simpler. And even ugly guys could just rape a virgin and then pay a couple of bucks.

so it’s not unusual for visitors to stumble on bodies, or to see spirits
You (and others who make stupid 'ghost hunting' programmes) are just attaching superstitions to the frequency of suicides. It is probable that many suicidal people in Japan (who were going to kill themselves somewhere) go there to commit suicide because of existing superstitions about the place.
Yeah, I realize such things can be faked, but there are so many stories of others that sound so eerily similar that in my view the stories are plausible. I
You really don't understand why such fabricated stories are similar?
Look for old forts, old grave yards, old asylums, old prisons and, of course, battlefields. Asylums and prisons are especially productive
It is hardly a coincidence that people are scared and on edge when at a place where they know lots of people died, especially when the scared people already hold superstitious beliefs about 'spirits'. It is therefore unsurprising that people think they see something scary when they are scared.
Dr. John Markway says in the MGM classic, The Haunting, “A closed mind is the worst defense against the supernatural.”
That's a nice appeal to 'authority', quoting a fictitious doctor. Back here in reality, it 'seems' it's the best 'defense' (though skepticism isn't the same as closemindedness), and it's often argued by superstitious people that people who don't see 'spirits' are too 'close-minded'.

YOU'VE GOT TO LAUGH!!
by The Searcher in"all of our teachings are based on the bible, not on the writings of some religious leader in the united states.
"1 thessalonians 2:13. http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/not-a-sect/.
all of the teachings (i counted 8) which have been reversed in the july 15th watchtower were based on the bible???????????.
-
Jeffro
It's true that almost all JW teachings are based on the leadership's interpretations of the Bible. But much of the Bible is so ambiguous that just about any opinion can be 'based on the Bible'. It's a fairly meaningless assertion, especially in the case of 'Bible-based principles'.

STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH! Possible shift in position from the WTBTS on the global vs local deluge.
by marmot ina buddy of mine recently sent me a link to the official wtbts facebook page and i thought what the hey, let's see what they have to say about the question that made me fade in the first place.
much to my surprise, they answered!
you may already be aware that the general position of jehovah's witnesses is briefly stated here:.

the official WTBTS Facebook page
Yeah... there's really no such thing. Anyone can create a Facebook page. It's essentially a 'fan page'.
We are not scientists, of course.
Don't worry. It's obvious.
and it is quite possible that when one adheres rigorously to scientific precepts, that it is simply not possible for many of them to accept a global flood just 4,000 years ago. Therefore, we have no doubt that scientists are generally quite honest about their understanding of the evidence.
Oh, those cheeky 'scientists' with their wiley 'scientific precepts'.
One Hebrew expression for the earth usually refers only to Israel itself.
Today, we call that racism.
On the other hand, we can still have certainty that a global flood occurred, just as it was described in Genesis. As the article mentioned, the Genesis account was validated again by others, including Isaiah, Peter and even Jesus.
It still could have happened, because characters in other spurious stories said so.
Granted, they're still clinging to the global flood position but this is the first time I've ever seen them acknowledge even the possibility that the flood might have been local.
Just remember that it's some JW apologist(s) running the page. It's not official.

For atheists, it’s not enough to just not believe in a God; one also must reject both good and evil spirits, for if good and evil spirits existed, it would only be a short leap to assuming there also was a God.
It is true that many atheists reject the ridiculous notion of spirits for similar reasons that they reject the notion of God, but rejecting one isn't generally causative of rejecting the other.
One of the most haunted places in the world is the Fuji, Japan, National Park, one of the commonest places in the world to commit suicides. People go there to camp and, while there, they just vanish. Park police find their belongings there as if someone had left them and just walked away. Very spooky. Sometimes they find the bodies, while other times they don’t.
I don't see any evidence that the alleged disappearances are 'supernatural'. There could be a serial killer though.
It would be unsurprising that a place associated with scary stories might scare people, but that doesn't indicate anything supernatural about suicides or disappearances at all.

my first post and some questions
by wallievase inthis is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.
i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.
i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

How much of that is your own thought, and how much is the Watch Tower Society thinking for you? Despite what the Society wants JWs to think, people don't just 'lose all faith' for no reason or because they're being influenced by 'demons'. They come to a different understanding through research into the roots of their own religion, followed by further research into religion in general. (Nor is 'losing faith' the same as 'hopelessness'.)
If it were the case that a person shouldn't "let any religion change how you view god or the bible", then how should people who don't grow up as Christians view god or the Bible? Should they maintain their view that the Bible isn't 'inspired'? Or should they let another religion change how they view it??
Second-I don't feel the GB are bad people, I think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.
They (the leadership) are either insincere or extremely deluded. Their self-proclaimed 'authority' stems from distorted chronology that contradicts the Bible.
Please reply, let me know what you think and what my next course of action should be as I think I'm too afraid to leave because of the effects on my wife, family friends, etc.
Your next course of action should be research. Other than that, only you can really know what will work best in your personal situation. It is generally difficult to leave a high-control group all at once without it causing major problems. But you should probably let your wife know about your general concerns to avoid tension causing additional problems to the relationship.

Something odd just happened when I logged on!
by tornapart ini typed in my name, password and the captcha, expecting to see my name come up in the top right corner and what i actually saw was someone else's name!
(the name was another member of this board).
i looked at it for a few seconds feeling a bit puzzled and not sure what to do about it and as i looked it automatically changed (whithout me doing anything) back to my own name.. has anyone else had this happen to them?

I am serious when I say this .............. everytime I log back in... a very scary thing is on the line where you type in the password... first there is my invisable password & after a few spaces is an EYE! It is like a peaked eyebrow ...with an eyeball under the peak! wtf.
Demons. That's the demons watching you. Only happens on apostate websites.
Actually that's not true. (I can hear the sighs of relief.) The 'eye' icon (a feature in newer versions of Internet Explorer) is there to reveal the hidden password characters, so you can confirm you've typed your password correctly. Click and hold on the 'eye' to show the actual password characters instead of circles.

Simply repeating the fact that you don't like it and don't accept another person's view of their own experience isn't going to persuade anyone.
Not what I did. I stated why those beliefs are irrational in various posts. If people still want to believe irrational drivel, well, good on them.

Gee. Compelling proof.
The retarded 'lizard' website barely warrants any response at all. At that's the only response from me it's going to get.

Plenty of people experience communications that they believe to be from dead people, angels or whatever - I am puzzled why you need to be so, frankly rude, and so certain that you know how the world works no matter what the experiences of others are.
I'm not going to pander to irrational drivel just because someone convinces themselves that it's real. Some such 'experiences' are interesting, but none have ever been proven to be supernatural. Ever. Zero. Zip.
