Bobcat:
is the WTBTS the copyright owner?
Yes.
in the united states i gather that copyright lasts for the lifetime of the author plus 70 years.
if copyright only lasts for 70 years from publication of anonymous works, then copyright for the nwt of the christian greek scriptures would be due to run out in a few years.
watchtower leaders probably don't like the idea of others being able to publish hard copies or circulate the nwt in ebook format.

Narcissistic Supply:
You think the FBI is going to enforce international copyright law for the benefit of these jokers???
Since copyright isn't about to expire for the NWT for several more decades, it's unlikely that copyright is a motive for any current action they're currently taking.
I think the FBI has more important things to worry about. But that doesn't mean the WTS can't take legal action itself. But even that seems unlikely, as the content is available online for free and also distributed for free in book form (if you can actually get a hold of a new printed copy these days), so it doesn't actually make them any money, and therefore may be a little difficult to reasonably enforce copyright.
Quoting verses or brief passages from the NWT (or any copyright work) generally comes under fair use anyway.

Copyright laws vary in different countries. Thanks for the more specific detail for US.
Based on the site you've linked, US copyright for the NWT expires in 2056 (95 years after 1961).

Copyright registration is explicitly indicated as at least 1984, but copyright is generally implicit, so would be 70 years from when the book was last printed by the copyright holder (i.e. current revisions say it is the "2006 printing"). So the NWT copyright is not about to expire for quite some time yet.
i know their have been screenings of this movie before , but this notice is for any newbies here that may not have seen it previously.
it is scheduled to screen at 10:25 pm on ch.32 sbs2 sun.25/8/13 .
maybe other states in australia can view it on-line , or request it be shown by sbs in their state.. it is an interesting movie , and apart from minor flaws , pretty accurate despite the beard, though i am told the danes are a bit more liberal than the west.. the real / actual jehovahs witness this story is based on has a cameo appearance near the end of this movie in the train sequence.. please let me know if you watch it and your thoughts about it .. smiddy.
The Danish title is To verdener. I saw it a few years ago. It's a fairly accuratre depiction, and based on a true story of a girl named Tabita.
The brochure Should you Believe in the Trinity? is included on all versions of the Watchtower Library on CD-ROM.
if you believe what is officially stated on the jw website, jws are not creationists.
.
the fact that the exact jw belief is in fact specifically called "day-age creationism" seems to have alluded them.
Laika:
The jw.org FAQs often work by answering a strawman question.
Indeed. They do the same thing on their 'What is a Bible Study?' FAQ. The old 'bait and switch':
If I accept a Bible study, do I have to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses? No.
Well, yeah, it's true enough that a person who has a 'Bible study' doesn't "have to" become a JW. But the person will certainly be expected to. And they'd better not to expect to remain good friends with the JWs if they don't join up.

Yeah, I guess '7 literal days for creation' is ridiculous, but 'humans have only existed for 6000 years' is 'true science'.

If you believe what is officially stated on the JW website, JWs are not creationists. They back this up with the fact that they believe something different to "some creationists" (but not correctly referring to those as "young Earth creationists").
