  It does indeed attempt to justify the continued increase (which resulted in a subsequent 18.7% increase in partakers in that year). However, I do not believe it was their intent to suggest that the number should be increasing beyond trying to justify the increase observed. For example, the same article does once again suggest that the increase in partakers could be because "Others may have mental or emotional problems that lead them to believe that they will rule with Christ in heaven".

  True, but that's not really the point. The number or 'partakers' is 'meant' to be decreasing irrespective of COVID.

  Memoril figures suffered greatly in areas where people from villages (like India) couldn't attend the digital session, neither was there any broadcast.

  Events of 2020 may certainly contribute to some of the decreases. Yet partakers at the 'Memorial', the one figure that's 'meant' to go down, has still had an increase of more than 3%.

  The key point you need to know about the 18th year of Nebuchadnezzar's rulership is that it is preceeeded by his 17th year of rulership and is followed by his 19th year of rulership.

  Thanks for that ‘revelation’ 😂. I’m not missing any point at all. I’m well aware of the relative and absolute chronology of the period. I think there may be some merit in your simplified approach as a starting point or for those who only want to know the basics. The ‘just wait to be amazed” rhetoric is a little bit tedious though.

  If someone offered a chemistry class and said, “You don’t need to know all that complex chemistry stuff. You just need to know that water has two simple ingredients. Stay tuned for when I tell you one of them next week”, I’m just not sure I’d be getting much value from the class.

  I am solely focused on Watchtower’s strawman argument, where Watchtower claims that “secular” historians are the source of 586/587 BC. To repeat myself, outside of the Bible, there is no evidence of the event. Therefore, outside of the Bible, there is no date. The 586/587 BC date is a biblical date.

  Thanks for the clarification. It is certainly the case that the Watch Tower Society tries to 'demonise' 'secular' sources, and to use this as a distraction from the fact that the information in the Bible only actually allows for 587 BCE (unless an incorrect year is presumed for the start of Nebuchadnezzar's reign).

  And in relation to whether it is 586 or 587, I leave that to others, because my understanding is that it is not so straight forward.

  Rest assured, 587 is definitely correct year. The confusion generally stems from some (mostly religious) sources trying to reconcile Bible verses about the subject without understanding the different dating systems used in different Bible books (and additional confusion about the interpolation at Jeremiah 52:28-30). Some sources also fail to properly account for the fact that the primary exile is properly counted from 598 BCE (rather than 597) because it occurred prior to Nisan of 597. Additionally, some sources refer to "587/6" because the Jewish year starting in Nisan spans parts of both years of our calendar, with the destruction of the city still actually occurring in 587 BCE.
