Is There Life On Mars?
by LoveUniHateExams inno, i'm not talking about the david bowie song, i'm asking does life exist on mars?.
opportunity rover (the one before the present one) took photos of strange, puffball-like sphericals seemingly sprouting on the martian surface.. these photos aren't conclusive evidence but it is an exciting area to investigate.. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-9546225/scientists-claim-evidence-fungi-red-planet.html .

Earnest:
I remember reading an article about this at the time and was excited about an alternative to carbon dating the destruction of Jerusalem as that's not very reliable during that period.
Even the Watch Tower Society acknowledges the reliability of carbon dating for that period (though it incorrectly claims that it is not reliable for samples older than 3500 years). Awake!, 22 November 1981, page 15:
Since we have no way of knowing how intense cosmic rays were in past ages, we are wise to accept carbon-14 dates only for the period for which the clock has been calibrated with historical materials, back to about 3,500 years ago. Older than that, they may be increasingly inaccurate.
Carbon dating can be reliable to around 50,000 years, setting aside errors that can be introduced due to corrupted samples or by not taking into consideration the environment of the sample.

Fisherman:
What results does the magnetic dating method yield using 607 instead of 586? How does it falsify 607?
The initial assertion in this thread that the method 'confirms 586' was a misrepresentation of the source material, so your question isn't really valid.
Aside from that, the discrepancy between secular history and Watch Tower Society dogma doesn't remain at 20 years, but diverges to a difference of 68 years at the beginning of the Divided Kingdom.
Using the new dating method, they were able to confirm the destruction of four sites by Hazael around 830 BCE, but Watch Tower Society chronology requires that those events happened around 890 BCE. The method also determined that a fifth site was likely associated with an attack by Shoshenq "70-100 years" before 830 BCE (consistent with my reckoning of that event in 925 BCE), though Watch Tower Society chronology would require that that happened in 993 BCE. (Also note that the range of "70-100" years indicates a margin of error that renders inconsequential the selection of 586 instead of 587 for the fall of Jerusalem for their purposes.)
Additionally, the dating method confirmed that parts of Judea remained populated until decades after the destruction of Jerusalem, which contradicts the superstitious hyperbole that all of Judea was desolated for the entire period.

spoken by Jeremiah
Still no. The portion from Leviticus was not âspoken by Jeremiahâ. Nor did Jeremiah write Chronicles.

2 Kings 24:12 and 2 Kings 25:8 identify sieges in Nebuchadnezzarâs 8th and 19th years (counting his accession year as his first year). Jeremiah 52:28, 29 provide accession-year references to the same events as Nebuchadnezzarâs 7th and 18th years, and the earlier siege on Jerusalem was from late 598 BCE to early 597 BCE, ending before Nisan. Babylonian records confirm events for Nebuchadnezzarâs early years of reign including the siege in his 7th year, using Nisan-based accession dating. Nebuchadnezzarâs accession year was 605 BCE, so it is simple arithmetic to confirm that his 7th year (not counting accession year) began in 598 BCE and his 18th year (not counting accession year) began in 587 BCE, not 586.

These are scientists mind you.

Why not use 539 as the base date since 539 is a historical fact.
The method is for dating events involving significant fires (âthey use archaeological findings containing magnetic minerals which, when heated or burned, record the magnetic field at the time of the fireâ), such as that in Jerusalemâs destruction. They canât just arbitrarily pick any year as a âbase dateâ.

Fisherman:
It is important to take note of this because some people can argue that God let the Jews out earlier than 70 years and reconcile 586 but that cannot apply to the land. Therefore, if 539 was the end of the 70 year desolation of the land, the desolation must have begun 70 years earlier.
â21 to fulfill Jehovahâs word spoken by Jeremiah, until the land had paid off its sabbaths. All the days it lay desolate it kept sabbath, to fulfill 70 years.â â2chr 2: 21
ALL the days
A dishonest rendering, coupled with an equally erroneous conclusion. The parenthetical phrase rendered there as âuntil the land had paid off its sabbaths. All the days it lay desolate it kept sabbathâ is from Leviticus 26:34-35 and isnât the âword spoken by Jeremiahâ at all. Making the second part of that quote the beginning of the sentence ending with the part about 70 years is simply wrong. Babylonâs 70 years definitely ended in 539 BCE. But âserving Babylonâ didnât mean exile, and exile is explicitly identified as a punishment for refusing to serve Babylon (Jeremiah 27:8-11).
A group of Jews returned to rebuild the temple in 538 BCE (though many Jews stayed in Babylon). Going back to Leviticus chapter 25, verse 8 indicates 49 years of sabbaths, which is entirely consistent with the period from the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 BCE (not 586) until 538 BCE.
Also, the paper doesnât purport to identify 586 as the year of Jerusalemâs destruction, but instead uses a traditional date of the event as a basis for comparing magnetic levels to establish approximate dates for other events.

Does that make it a Satanic ritual?
Insight on the Scriptures, volume 1, page 364:
This âeatingâ would have to be done in a figurative way, by exercising faith in the value of Jesusâ perfect human sacrifice.
The Watchtower, 1 April 2007, page 19:
Human sacrifice in any form is demonic, and true worshippers of God stay away from anything that is connected with such a practice.

Wonderment:
The Revelation book? How long will that take? The Revelation book might be their biggest challenge yet.
It also will collect notes from previous publications. But given the changes in their most recent Ezekiel commentary along with other nonsense about Gog, the âking of the northâ, etc, I wouldnât be too surprised if a new attempt at a Revelation commentary might be in the making.

Most of the âstudy notesâ repeat information in other publications so itâs not a as though itâs quite the mammoth effort itâs portrayed to be. I think they release the Study edition gradually to make JWs think theyâre always getting something new despite the very limited number of ânew releasesâ compared to years ago.
