Do any of you follow the major fan sites? I like www.mugglenet.com and www.the-leaky-cauldron.org. They have great podcasts, and lots of great pics and info.

I'm also excited about the new Order of the Phoenix movie -- the clips and stills look terrific.

Sometimes my kids think I'm a little nuts -- I'm more into it than any of them. They were the ones who got me started, so they shouldn't complain!

I could be wrong... but isn't July 21st Harry's birthday? I would imagine that is why it was chosen.

Harry's (and J. K. Rowling's) birthday is July 31st. But that's a Wednesday this year ... not great for the midnight book parties. I think 7/7/07 would have been good, but speculation is that Jo wants to steer clear of the 2nd anniversary of the London bombings.

Speaking of the party, I'm trying to decide whether to dress up as Mrs. Weasley or as Prof. Trelawney. I dressed up as Trelawney for Halloween this year. :-)

Did you ever go to Brooklyn to visit Bethel?

when i joined back in the mid 80's many in my congregation went to visit the bethel in brooklyn.. for some reason, i had no interest for that.. in the last years that i attended meetings, they didn't organize anything like that anymore.. i wonder why that changed?.

I used to live in Queens. I'd been following the events leading up to 1975 while I was in high school, and had an academic interest in the JW religion. I've never been one myself.

I finally visited Bethel toward the end of my time in college. I went on the factory tour first. I was pretty obviously not a Witness: jeans, t-shirt, corduroy watch cap, and sneakers. But they were nice to me, and scared up a tour guide since I'd shown up at an off-hour. Her name was Wendy. She was young, pretty, and very relaxed. She hadn't memorized the spiel, so she let the factory workers (one of whom was GORGEOUS -- *sigh* -- he was working on typesetting the "Bible Story" book into some foreign language) tell me about the work they were doing. It was fun.

Later on I went on the Bethel home tour with my then-boyfriend. The tour guide reminded me of one of those Disney Animatronic(TM) presidents -- canned speech and in full witnessing mode. Not as much fun. I felt sorry for the laundry workers -- no AC in summer at that time. Yikes.

Ron Frye's book on Elder Confidentiality

i found one of his comments interesting.

on page 68 he speaks affectionately of his wife mavis.... "i especially depended on her because she was observant and discerning.

Just to clarify:

At least a priest in the catholic church, generally speaking, is a priest for life. Also, if a priest tells anything he is usually speaking to another priest. So, a parishioner's secrets may be known to several priests but not necessarily to other parishioners.

If a parishoner reveals something in confession, the priest is bound under pain of automatic excommunication not to reveal what he has heard to any other soul. In fact, a priest will not bring it up even with the person who confessed, unless that person initiates the topic. The priest must even then ask the penitent to if he may discuss it. He may also request to be released from the seal to discuss the problem with a more experienced confessor, etc.

An excommunication incurred by a priest who reveals the content of a confession is revocable only by the Pope:

Can. 1388 ß1 A confessor who directly violates the sacramental seal, incurs a latae sententiae ["automatic" -- CK] excommunication reserved to the Apostolic See; he who does so only indirectly is to be punished according to the gravity of the offence.

the society sometimes places conferences calls to do's, co's and other overseers, especially when it is something that they do not want to put in writing.

Listings removed through VeRO
If your listing was removed through VeRO, and you believe that your listing was removed in error, eBay suggests that you first try to contact the rights owner directly. (The email notifying you that your listing had been removed should have included the rights owner's email address.) Only the rights owner understands their products and intellectual property rights. If the rights owner agrees that they made a mistake, have them email eBay and eBay will allow you to re-list your item.
Avoid having your listing removed through VeRO in the future. Review the list of VeRO Program Participant About Me pages. Participants have created an About Me page that contains information designed to help you understand why they requested the removal of your listing.

As far as used bookstores are concerned, there have been court cases (I'd have to look them up again, but they're there) which have established the legal right of such bookstores to re-sell previously owned books. As long as the seller isn't making copies of something that is still within copyright, it is perfectly legal to resell a book. As a dealer in used, rare, and antiquarian books, I have been challenged several times by Witnesses who were upset that I was selling something that they "give away for free!" I have had to point out that most of what I do sell was at one time sold by the Witnesses themselves, and can show them the price lists to prove it. Even the freebies can be resold if there's a market for them, especially since they aren't as free with their literature as they used to be.

Tactless Dubs

is it me or do dubs have no clue how to be tactful and pretty much just spew whatever is on their minds??

i used to work out of my home, doing medical transcription, with a newborn next to me and two in school.

the car groups used to stop at my house unannounced to use the bathroom and would wander around my house examining my stuff and my cleaning job.
