Scooby, I usually do not have problems with anxiety but a few years ago (in Jan 2003), it put me in the hospital. I thought I was having a heart attack and my wife took to me to the ER. After 1 1/2 days of tests and MRIs and stuff, I was told I'm as healthy as I could possibly wish for. Then they told me that I should see a therapist to deal with it.
Well, that was the only time I had it that bad (someone pushed me over the edge), and I never saw a therapist or did anything about it and I don't seem to have trouble with it anymore. But I do know that for many people it can get worse and worse and cause physical damage to your body. Over time from what I understand, it can really degrade you physically and cause problems as you get older. I'm not much of one for therapy, but as some have suggested here it might not hurt to at least go to someone and chat about it just to learn more.

How do you deal with "Anxiety"
by ScoobySnax inhave you ever had anxiety?
i don't mean general anxiety you get before an exam or an interview, i mean anxiety out of the blue that seems to hit you when you can be in a warm pleasant atmosphere.......a feeling like you just have to get up and go.
sometimes its terrifying, hyperventillating, can't get your breath, feel like everything is closing in around you.

My dad wants to put my name on his Blood card
by lv4fer inmy dad called me up yeterday to ask if he could put me on his blood card.
this is bizarre.
he just recently moved here and doesn't know very many people.

My grandmother is 83 and a JW. I would honor her wishes if there was an issue about blood for her. If I could not honor them, I would let her know now so she could find someone else to do it. I wouldn't use the opportunity to impose my beliefs on her just as I wouldn't want her imposing her's on me.

I wouldn't have any problem with it.
But as long as there are still nice full sized German girls around, it probably won't happen. -

How many remember the 15 min break Between the Public Tlk and WT Study?
by Wasanelder Once inas kid i remember a break of 15 minutes between the public talk and the wt study.
all the new ones and "weak" ones ran out to smoke.
loved to see the attendant round them up to come back in when the droning began again.

I remember that as a kid. I must have been pretty young, I don't remember if I went outside or not. Main thing I remember is when they stopped having breaks and I remember being disappointed about it.

hello all - new here
by GoingGoingGone inhello everyone, this is my first post.... i'm in the process of fading after being a jw my entire life (almost).
i don't go to meetings anymore..... hubby's an elder, and boy, is he mad.
he still makes the kids go with him to meetings, service, etc... they hate it and i feel sorry for them, but there's not much i can do about it.. i've been feeling lonely today, i do miss my friends sometimes, and i have really good friends, but since i don't go to meetings i never see them much anymore.

Welcome GGG! I think you'll find alot of people here that can really relate to what you're going through, and can offer comments that are very helpful.
I only stopped about 9 months ago, but already I feel so much freedom and am happy that I did it. I haven't lost my desire to understand God, just my desire to worship the WTBTS. You're just leaving the JWs, has nothing to do with leaving God. -

Experience being 'out of the loop' of helpful information in the cong.
by out of the box ina post in this thread by dorayakii in this thread: .
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/95493/1.ashx made me think about this thread.to me, even from the outside, the society has always seemed legalistic and cold, eager to find faults, which is precisely the opposite to how jesus formed christianity.
however, many people don't see that perspective, because they are not in a position of imtimacy with the leaders of the organisation.

Seems to me that the boy's mother should have discussed this with you, as you said. The sleepover could still take place, but an uncomfortable situation for your son could have been easily avoided.
I find it sad too that since this boy obviously likes boys, and with the elders "keeping an eye" what he has to look forward to as he gets older is being taught that he is "wrong" and "bad" for it. If he stays in the org as he gets older, he'll be "readjusted" to think properly (they'll try anyway), and I would think that'll mess him up.
If people told me as I was growing up that it's wrong for me to like girls, I don't know what I would have done. I don't see how deep down I could ever change that!
It seems to me that both boys were done a big disservice by the org, which only cares for it's own appearance, not the people it hurts (or destroys). -

City person or Country person
by JH in.
i travelled alot recently and i passed through many major cities, and i saw the contrast between nice small quiet towns and huge cities with so much traffic.. so, where would you rather live, in a quiet small town where there isn't much to do,but where it's quiet and there is not much stress, or in a big city with lots of traffic jams, where life is more expensive, but where there is more to see?.
i like the smaller town life.

I posted earlier that I prefer the city. Maybe I should clarify a bit.
I'm originally from New York and I liked it there, but I prefer it here (Phoenix) quite a bit. It's city (about 2.2 million people), but very suburban where I live. I can have horses, chickens whatever on my property (about 1/3 acre) but I can also walk to the mall, or many other shopping areas. At night it's quiet but I can go out and find many many things going on if I want to.
My girlfriend lives in a small town and recently she wanted to see a movie but it wasn't showing there yet. She asked me if it was showing here so I looked it up and told her "Yes it is. In 26 different theaters." -

Disfellowshipping for old "sins"
by ballistic ini'm attempting to post something jw related for once.... there was a thread on here a while ago, i can't remember who posted it or what it was called,.
but in essence it was saying, all you disfellowshipped ones couldn't have been repentant so you asked for it.. .
well, i wasn't too chuffed about that, so here's my follow up question,.

I have a JW friend that feels he has to confess all the time. Turned me in a few times too which pissed me off. Anyway, he was "inactive" for about a year and during that time he spent time at strip clubs and took a girl home once or twice. About 6 months later he started going back to meetings and confessed what he'd done and the elders told him that he wasn't active and that he's not doing it anymore, so don't worry about it. They also told him "it really wasn't necessary for you to bring it up."
That really seemed strange to me because I've seen so many people get into trouble for things they did more than 6 months ago. -

Odd yes, yes odd (a rambling saga about fitting in)
by joelbear ini am odd.
i have never fit in.
this made it especially torturous to be a jw.

Thanks for being so open about your life joelbear. I think alot of us here can relate to lots of it.
Early in life I learned that some people can be quite cruel and that not everyone is friend material. Unfortuanately, I responded by developing a personality where I try to make it clear that I'm not looking for friends and "I don't like you anyway". Yeah, that sure wasn't a good way for me to become, but it's what I am.
I think I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to getting close to people. I act like I don't want it, and in many ways I really don't want it. But it bothers me sometimes that I live a life of solitude as I see all these other people hanging around with eachother and at least appearing to have a good time.
When I do end up interacting with people I tend to try to end it (politely) soon. Like meeting new neighbors, I'd love to get along with my neighbors, but I'm sure they see me as rude and have given up on getting to know me. I hate being this way but I have no clue how to change it so I go on. Somehow I have a girlfriend, but she pursued me past all the initial barriers I tend to put up and maybe she sees the real me? I hope so.
Anyway, I don't know if being raised a JW is part of it or if I would have turned out this way anyway. I do feel that the restriction to getting to know "worldly" people must have played a part. It justified my keeping a distance from kids and school so maybe? Who knows.
What I do know is that my daughter is NOT being raised that way. She does very well socially, with kids and adults. She has alot of friends at school and plans to get more involved in after school clubs and such next year (7th grade). I just hope she can grow up to be more "normal" than I am.
