An active JW that I talk to regularly said recently, "How do you know that scans and stuff you see on the internet aren't fake? You can't trust stuff that people fake to make JW's look bad."
As we were discussing the U.N. issue I suggested that he call the society or the U.N. and find out first hand for himself. Would he do that? No. It's much easier for him to comfort himself believing that anything anti-JW is fake and anything from the WT is correct. As of yet he doesn't see how he's fooling himself. Of course he may never see it.

Apostate lies?
by gringojj inthe jws warn you not to talk to ex-jws.
they claim that they spread lies about them.
in all of my research on the jws, i have found very few instances where ex-jws have told lies about jws.

JW kids and the national anthem humiliation......
by kid-A infor me, school was extremely stressful as a jw kid.
the worst part had to be my morning dose of humiliation being forced to walk out of the room as the national anthem came on the loudspeakers (first god save the queen, then, oh canada).
the other kids found this completely bizarre, and several of my "patriotic" minded teachers really resented me for doing this (despite the obvious fact i had no choice in the matter but was being forced into this by my parents).. how could anybody force this public humiliation on a small child or teen-ager, already having to deal with the normal stresses of growing up and worrying about their public image with their peers???

I remember my 2nd grade teacher lifting me out of my chair for the pledge of allegiance. She didn't make me say it, just stand up. She was plain cruel to me, but most of my other teachers just dealt with it quietly.
I think it's miserable to put your kids through that, but I also have a problem with the teachers that make it worse. Even though I'm no longer a JW, I still don't see why a teacher, or anyone, would feel it necessary to force someone to do something they feel is patriotic. How it brings up so much anger in some people.
I still have no intention of "pledging my allegiance" to the flag or the United States of America. I would do my best to protect/defend the country and be a law abiding person, but I don't see the need to make a pledge. -

Does it bother you to realize that life is normal for those left behind?
by free2beme inyou know when you leave a religion or a place you worked at for a long time.
you want to feel that perhaps there will be a missing irreplaceable piece, that represents the effort you put into the work.
you know what i talking about, the comment at work of "this place would be lost without me" or in the religion "i am the main person who encourages field service around here.

Like in the previous post, I'm more irritated with the people that "worry" about me. I find that so demeaning. No matter what I could say, to them it's just sad that I failed to live up to what "I know is right". Basically it's just treating me as if I'm stupid and weak.
I was thinking the other day if I could remember EVER, as a JW, hearing talk about someone who left and the reason being what the person claimed. In my memory, it was that they were weak, bad, wanted to be bad, someone pulled them away, or something like that. Never have I ever heard it acknowledged that they could have left for any other reason. -

Opinion - looking for some insight
by free2beme ini was wondering something and wanted to see what others thought .... my sister, an active witness, recently became a foster parent to a baby.
in history, the baby is the child of my uncles underage girlfriend, that he is now serving time for raping (under age, always seen as a rape).
the young woman was doing meth (clean for almost a year now), and was living with her own mother who was an alcoholic.

A very similar situation took place between my mother and my brother (the child was my brother's son). My mother succeeded in doing what your sister is trying to do. It did not work out in the end.
If you have any interest in discussing with my sister-in-law (brother's wife), who went through the whole situation, PM me and I can put you in contact with her by email. This is a huge issue in her life and she learned alot while going through it. I'm sure she'd be happy to talk with you about it.
I hate to see kids going through this kind of stuff, at any age. -

I remember people being all excited that there would be a Saturday morning bookstudy. Yuck! I'm useless in the morning.
Saturday I got up late as I stayed up until around 4:00. Had some coffee and a shower and then did some shopping. -

I love it here in AZ. I moved away for 10 years then came back. I think I'll stay right here in my house:

worldly, ex dub or current dub?
by pratt1 in.
for those of you in a serious relationship, is your partner "worldly", an ex dub, or a current dub?.
my wife is an ex dub like me.. it certainly helps that she understands why i am the way i am, and the actions of her in - laws.. what about you?

I'm dating a worldly girl. She really knows nothing about JW's and I don't bother her with it. But I find it funny sometimes that she thinks I know absolutely nothing about the Bible or religion based on the fact that I don't go to church.
She's Methodist and goes to church just for occasions (Easter, Christmas, stuff like that). She doesn't realize how much I do know about the bible, probably much more than her, but we just don't discuss religion much at all. -

What silly rules did your congregation make up?
by weinermcgee inelders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.

---"2. Suits only or no privledges. ie giving talks, operating mikes, behind magizine counter. you weren't allowed to wear pants a different color then your jacket. if you wore khacki's and a jacket you were basically a worldly person. this later changed slightly, you could wear black or grey dress pants with a different color jacket. Can you believe they actually did a special needs talk outlining all this?"---
Yep, I can believe it. I never wore a suit, I always wore a sport jacket (and pants too). I was constantly questioned about it and my answer was that I preferred to dress that way. My father even took me shopping once and bought me an expensive suit. It still hangs in my closet, I wore it once.
After a while I wore sport coats to irritate the elders more than I did because I wanted to. Years and years of it, getting questioned about it regularly. But I did have privleges (MS), just kept getting asked if I could afford a suit and I said, "Yes, I could. Just don't want one." -

Reno 911 on Comedy Central
by Billygoat indoes anyone watch this show?
last night's rerun had a couple guys dressed up as mormon's = but they came up to the cops asking, "would you like to hear the good news of jehovah?
" when the cops said no, another one came from across the street and put the guy in a headlock and started beating him up.

I love that show! Haven't seen it in a while but I enjoy it.
Maybe it's just to see Wendi McLendon-Covey :)
