One of my cats, about 10 months old, used to dart out the door when it was open. I didn't let him out or had to go get him when he did it as my cats are indoor cats.
Well, I went out of town in May and the person watching my pets didn't notice the cat get out and called me a few days later saying he thought I had two cats (I do). I figured the cat got out and that was that. I came home after being gone 10 days to my one cat. Two days later I find my other cat hiding under some wood I have propped up against the side of the house and I bring him in. He's skinny and scared.
Now I can leave the door open all I want and he has absolutely no interest in going outside.

Learning.... and forgetting
by Cygnus inwe as humans have this unique ability to learn from mistakes, and comprehend the significances and results of bad decisions.
and we can retain that information for later use, as we're blessed with a concept of time and cause-effect.. i really wish cats had the same, as my cat has been yelping to go out, then come back in, every 5 minutes or so.
it's freezing cold out and raining and once he's out, he wants back in.

While preaching, did you realize that you were also screwing up their lives
by JH in.
when you were going door to door, although you had the pure intention of teaching people what you taught was god's will, did you realize back then, that if they listened to you and accepted a bible study that you were also screwing up their lives and that they would suffer greatly by this?.
it was always in back of my mind.....

No, I never realized it when I was preaching. When I started having real doubts, I never went in service again.
I do feel bad that in all the years I was a JW, I did bring two people in. I haven't seen either one in years, but I know from my family that both are active at this time (both are elders).
One of them though was a mess of drugs and crime when I first found him. Not sure if he's better off or not right now but possibly it might have actually been good for him (that's hard to say). The other was a friend from high school. I think he would have done just find if I would have left him alone (didn't preach to him).
Fortuanately, most people at the doors just wanted me to go away. -

Email I received off mum
by Es inhey all, i usually pop into my folks once a week so that my son can see his grandparents.
anyway last week my dad asked if i wanted to go to a country show\fete with them on sat , so anyway a couple of days later i emailed my mum to see whether my fiance (non jw) could come too.. this is the email i received today.
as you are going to be busy over the next few weeks, we dont want to put added pressure on you, dont feel you have to come to the show.plus we have already explained the situation regarding mike we dont have anything against him personally, but the situation is difficult for us regards associating with him as your fiance because it would be viewed as our supporting your decision to marry out of the truth.

It's ridiculous how family tries to control everything other family members do.
I asked my father about six months ago if my daughter could stay with he and his wife for a few days as I was going out of town. He says "sure, no problem". Then I get a call a few days later saying that he had a long talk with his wife and they can't do it because I'm going to see my girlfriend and she's not a witness.
I asked him if he thinks it's wrong that I date someone who's not a JW and he says "you know it is". Then I asked him if I'm supposed to be dating witnesses and he says yes. Well, since I'm not a JW am I supposed to date JW's? Should a JW date me? (No) Then I said he's basically saying I can't date at all. His answer to that was that I should wait until I clear my head and decide what I'm going to do (meaning, come back to the JW's). He just won't accept that I'm not anymore and picks my life to pieces based on JW rules and regs.
I know I'm rambling but I think I understand what you're dealing with, and it's crap! It really makes me mad also but I think that if I plan to have any relationship with my father I have to tune this stuff out or that'll be it. Of course I'm not going to live by his (JW's) rules, but I don't know that he'll ever accept that I'm not coming back.
How he can expect me (and your family expect you) to put our lives on hold to please them is beyond me. I guess it's just their brains are so toasted with JW-think that they can't see reality right in front of them.
Yes, it makes me angry too! -

>_> Hmm. Curious.
by Apathy inhttp://www.heavensgate.com/misc/lastchnc.htm.
is it just a coincidence that the heaven's gate people use the same picture on their webstie as on the 'creator' book?.
yeah, probably.

I thought the Heaven's Gate followers went off to the mothership about ten years ago (via phenobarbital). Is there another ship coming?

"Spiritism" has Rapidly Spread in JW Congregations
by metatron insister k, like countless other witness sisters, has a number of vague, ill-defined symptoms that drag her down physically.. her md can't find much specific that's wrong - so she seeks help from an alternative healer - who uses "healing crystals",.
"flower essences", "rebalancing energy meridians" and the like.
she seems to benefit from this - and the healer is also.

---"Let me guess - this amazing mystical process revealed that you are allergic to wheat, dairy and sugar - the evil trinity of the dodgy naturopath."---
That explains why my dad's wife (queen of feeling sorry for herself) is allergic to wheat, dairy and sugar. I feel sorry for the servers the times we're all at a restaurant together. Oh, she's a manipulative queen of tears too. (Sorry, venting) -

I remember that kind of stuff all through growing up a JW. I had the allergy test where your arm is pressed down, pressure points pushed on my feet (and I have VERY ticklish feet so I hated it).
As I got older I heard about the types of things they (JW's) were doing. One had something to do with someone talking through an empty paper towel roll over the phone. I thought that one was really strange. But as I got older it all seemed very very strange to me and I couldn't imagine other JW's doing those type of things. -

Does blood freak you out????
by dezpbem in.
i've had this phobia of blood and needles ever since i was given the anti-blood programming.. anyone else have his phobia as well?.
i'm wondering if i'm the only person to have this fear.
-
thom
I always get light headed when I see blood and I have to lay down to take a needle.
I don't think it has anything to do with being a JW, some people are just that way. -

I believe that's the company that started leasing the Buicks the C.O.'s drive quite a few years ago. I assume it's run by a JW.

How long did you LURK before joining in the fun???
by kid-A ini am curious, how many of you were lurkers on jwd before joining in the party?
im not sure if there is anyway to know how many people at any given time are just reading the posts and not posting, versus active members.
i am going to do a pseudo-scientific analysis based on responses to the following questions:.

I joined another board soon after I started fading. Saw links to JWD and checked it out. Lurked for a few months then started posting.
I've dropped the other board as it seems more suited for people with certain similar views and found myself irritated at the constant arguing and censorship. -

Pepsi or coke?
by Evanescence in.

evanescence *wish there were voting polls on this forum

I prefer Coke over Pepsi, but I enjoy Dr. Pepper more than either.
I was in Scotland (Dundee) a while back (late 90's) and it seemed to me that orange soda was incredibly popular. Anyone know if that was really the case, or was I just imagining it?
