Congratulations! I'm glad to hear things went smoothly and the elder seemed to at least be polite to you.
--"For instance, he said without access to the UN library the watchtower wouldn't have been able to produce such good articles for Awake!"--
So then when I was doing work for the U.S. Navy to feed my family, it was ok then? Then why did I get so much grief for it? Oh, that's right, different rules for the FDS and the rest of us.

Premonition Dreams?
by Evanescence in.
just wondering, has anyone ever had premonition dreams?.
evanescence.

Was talking to my sister-in-law a couple of weeks ago and she was telling me how my brother and her daughter have been having the same dream for years. I told her "Hey, I have had this dream for many years about this house" and then gave her some details and she says "Oh sh**! That's the same dream they have! She put my brother on the phone and I find that all three of us are dreaming about the same house, with the same details and the same odd things about the house (it's a cool house).
I can see that maybe my brother and I could be remembering something from childhood, but his step daugter was raised completely separate from us.

Seems to me if they really are there and that's really their picture and names on the site, the society will make it quick for them to leave.
I would doubt someone there would put up a site like that and really not expect consequences.
But since they only registered the domain a few days ago, maybe it'll be interesting to see what they have to say in the near future. -

Is this shunning?
by Ellie in.
its a long story but basically i was having a bible study with my half sister, i hadn't had a lot to do with her during my childhood so studying was for me an excuse to get to know her, and she was lovely, she couldn't do enough to help me, until i stopped going to the meetings and told her i didn't want to study anymore, then she dropped me like a brick and now refuses to speak to me at all.. shortly after this happened our younger brother started to study with her son, my brother needed somewhere to stay so they offered for him to move in with them which he did.. he became quite engrossed in his studies, they encouraged him to stop associating with his worldly friends which he did, he became an unbaptized publisher, but still they didnt really associate much with him, even my sisters 2 sons who live in the same house as him and are the same age group didn't bother much with him, so my brother found himself quite isolated, and ofcourse i'm bad association so he was always told not to visit me.. anyway, due to all this hes missed a few meetings recently, not many but just enough for them to tell him that hes got till september 7th to leave, giving the reason that hes not making enough of an effort to serve jehovah.. what do you all think?.
is this typical behaviour of jehovahs witnesses, or are my family really messed up??

My father and his wife raised my brother's son from when he was about 8 years old or so. He was a rebellious kid and a bit (ok, alot) of a troublemaker.
They made him go to meetings, which I can understand if that's what you believe, I did it to my own daughter. They made him go in service and give talks (I did not make my daughter do that unless she wanted to). They regulated to death every breath he took in that house.
When he turned 18 he decided he didn't want any part of being a JW and my father told him that to live under his roof, he MUST be a JW. Well, he left and is now living with friends that get him into trouble, he does drugs, has been arrested for theft and vandalism.
I really feel that being pressured so hard to be the perfect JW (my dad and his wife are BIG on image) is what pushed him so far in a direction that also is not good for him. They see him as being a problem and causing problems for himself, but they don't see how they've contributed to it.
Telling your children to get out of your house if they won't be a JW is sick to me. I know they're not his parents, but if you're going to take on raising a child you become the parents, like it or not. -

Relationship Question
by Puternut infor those of you who have experience with this or may have solid imput;.
in meeting new people for a possible meaningful relationship, how much is wise to reveal about our past experience with the borg?.
when i came out of the borg, i was in a relationship with an ex-witness, and felt understood.

I've usually had the topic come up once we get to the point of discussing our families (parents and all those other crazy people we're related to). I usually bring up that they are all JW's and I'm not because I left.
One girl I dated was scared off by this and we stopped dating after a bit. I can understand that, if it was going to be an issue, better to stop now.
I've only dated 3 women since my divorce (2 1/2 years ago) but the other two just took it that I'm a little unhappy with religion in general and it's not a problem.
The girl I'm dating now (for about 9 months) is Methodist. She knows I don't mind going to church with her now and then (she doesn't go much) and I support her in whatever she believes, and she knows that I need support in what I believe or don't believe. She's not pushy about it.
The point is she knows that my family is a bit of an issue, and my experience has caused me to have some issues with religion in general, but she knows I'll support her, and she also knows that I do not plan to just jump into another religion. I think the supporting eachother is what makes her comfortable with it. I never put down her beliefs and have made it politely clear that I won't jump into the Methodist Church if and when we're married just because she's Methodist. -

My grandmother told me the same thing. She said that Bethel was letting people in and caring for them while all the others around them weren't doing anything for people. She was explaining how much MORE the WT did for people than anyone else. She really believes it too.
She believes what she WANTS to believe. -

"Job A Comedy of Justice was more disturbing and life changing for me...and that was fiction."
That book has also had an impact on me. It's influenced me to wonder a bit about what makes God, God. Because he says so?
I read it as a JW. I enjoyed the references to JW's in the book. -

Did you know you were being deceptive at the doors?
by truthseeker ini was recently out with a sister on the ministry; she was talking to some security guard.. she has been witnessing to him, on and off for a few weeks.. before she leaves, she gives him a question to "think about" and tells him "she'll be back next week" to give him the answer.. this security guard reads the bible at work.
the sister was talking about the resurrection hope.. she says, "did you know the bible promises that we can see our dead loved ones again?".
she finishes by saying, "next week, we'll discuss what god requires of us in order to realize that hope.".

"I remember asking him when I was around 10 y/o -- "but don't we want them to become JWs -- that is why we go door to door? Why did you say we are not here to change your religion?"
I used to say exactly the same thing, Purza.
Now, if I can get my foot in the door, I can sell just about anything. -
