Would God permit nuclear war?
by JH in.
by nuclear war, i don't mean 2 bombs like in japan back in 1945, but something much worse, like half of the population of the us being destroyed in a nuclear conflict.. probably jw's would say, no to the question because they think that their work of salvation is soooo important that god wouldn't permit their destruction..

---"The REASON why God PERMITS (not causes) suffering is another story"---
Isn't it because Satan pissed him off?
The next time my daughter makes me mad, I'm going to allow her to torture my neighbor's cats. That sounds like a good way to handle it. -

That's wonderful, April! It's great to see parents who really love their kids instead of just complaining about them all the time. It's a wonderful thing to be able to raise a child.
My daughter wasn't in the best of moods this morning on the way to school (she's 12). She remembered that she was late yesterday and has to pay the price today with detention. That's never happened to her before and she was a little moody about it. But I love her anyway. Just had to give her a big hug on the way out the door, and I'll make something she really likes for dinner tonight! -

Are you honest when you say your age?
by JH ini know people who don't say their real age, like take off 2 or 3 years.... my mom looks younger than her age, so she sometimes took off a few years.
gee, i'm just the opposite, i rather say my real age, and wait for a compliment saying "hey you look good for your age".
how about you, do you ever lie on your age?

People used to say I looked about 10 years older than I am. So I decided to shave off the little remaining hair I had and grow a goatee and now I'm told I look 5 or so years younger than I am.
But I tell people my correct age if asked. -

I've seen the commercial and thought the same thing. They guy hurtles to his death (it would seem) and the others couldn't care less.
Never put it together with JW thinking, but it sure matches up. -

I've thought that was right too, in the past. I wanted nothing more than my life to come to it's end, get it over with. I spent hour after hour dwelling on how it should happen, when it should happen and why it should happen. I was incredibly depressed.
But it didn't happen and now I'm glad that it did NOT! Things improved, my outlook improved, I made it through and now am enjoying a happy life. I feel very sorry for those who make such thoughts a reality and never get to see the time when things can get better. It's really really worth the wait. Had I followed through on my thinking, I'd never have know it could get better. -

Did you ever feel the JW "holy spirit"
by Smiles in.
were there ever times when you were sure you could feel or see "jehovah's holy spirit" operating?.

I used to pray very much before giving a talk and felt that I just couldn't do it on my own (do it well anyway). I did the same when I taught classes at businesses around the world. I always prayed before I got up in front of everyone and attributed doing a good job to Holy Spirit.
Once I left, and continued to teach classes, I didn't pray about it and did the same job I was doing before. Finally realizing it was me doing the (hopefully) good job, not some imaginary helper. -

Menial tasks and Appointments.
by Dune inwere you ever the witness boy/man who was always asked to do everything in the congregation.
like every elder knew you were the "go-to" guy when something needed to be done.
whether it was vacuming the carpet or helping some old sister move out?

It wasn't until I became a MS that I really started to realize all the crap in the org. Before that I just used the excuse that we're all imperfect. But then seeing more of the correspondence with the society (being talked to like I'm an idiot when THEY made mistakes in literature orders, etc.), sitting in on the first part of the elder's meetings with the CO and stuff like that, I started to realize that it's a bunch of men just saying and doing what they want. I could see the lack of any spiritual guidance on anything.
A MS still does menial tasks. Like an apprentice, doing all the crap jobs for the elders. But then you can start to see the elders for what they really are, a bunch of men reveling in their power. It all became clear once I became a MS.
Oh, and it's so much fun when the PO's wife asks you for something you're not supposed to give out (like an OM book) and then comes back with her husband and says "I see I had to pull rank on you", or an elder's wife wants a particular territory but you're supposed to give them out in a particular order and then gets her way anyway.
Maybe if you become a MS it could be your doorway to freedom. -

It just reinforces my reasons for having left. Most of the comments I hear from JW's now are very familiar, I used the same "reasoning" when I was one.
I remember once being at a door and the guy telling me that I was young and needed to "look into" my religion and see the reality. I used the same reasoning I hear JW's use now and he was just shaking his head. Now I know what he was thinking and how foolish I sounded to him. I realize now how I was just repeating what I was taught to repeat, and that in light of all the facts, it really sounded dumb. Listening to JW's now just reinforces to me how wrong and blind I was back then. -

JWs and Lawsuits
by Jeannine inanother jw thing that boggles my mind...... my mother-in-law, a super-jw, was crossing the street when she was hit by a car.
she was fortunate enough to sustain very minor injury (bruises and maybe a minor sprain or two).
i would describe the accident as very minor.

I never heard much said about lawsuits against NON-jw's. It's when you file suit against another jw that the elders have something to say.
I once got a letter from another brother's lawyer (he thought I owed him money) and I had my lawyer answer it. Then I was accused (by the elders) of bringing lawyers into the situation.
