My god!!!!!!! I have been reading some of the posts from the supporters of 1914 in the above link and it is one big circle jerk!!!! I don't even understand there reasoning in half of the posts. The other half makes no sense. Why do people keep clinging to something that has a basis in pyramidology, etc.???? All I can say is that they are grasping at straws...

IM from a dub who is disgusted at my presence on this board
by stillajwexelder ini have read your posts and am suprised, shocked and disgusted at the fact you still are an active witness who goes to the meetings 70% of the time and at the same time go to apostefests and curse and talk bad about the truth.
dont you know that the bible said people like you would quietly slip in the congregation and subvert the faith of some?
are you not afraid of god and jesus?

So you are saying that if I do not go to meetings I am no longer a follower of Jehovah? That is the MOST ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Please give me a scripture to support that. Do you really think that Jehovah would support or approve of an orginization that had shakey beginnings? From the beginning things were wrong. The whole thing is a farce. Yes, I believe in Jehovah, I believe in Jesus as the Messiah and redeemer. Simply put, no man or org. interceeds between me and the Christ. That is in the bible, plain for all to see.

Being told the expression "We're All in the Same Boat"
by LongHairGal ini used to hate hearing the expression "we're all in the same boat".
usually it came up in conversation when you were discussing the state of the world and financial affairs, etc.
i used to particularly hate it when it came from somebody (usually an elder) who had a business and a great deal of money.

Actually, I'd rather be on a leaking raft and know it could sink than be with someone who is on the Titanic and disillusioned to believe nothing could happen. Also, when my raft goes down I can safely swim away... try doing that when you have a major liner going down...

Why do they have such a hard on for heaven? The research I have done leads me to believe that no one goes to heaven except the Christ. The Kingdom will be ON earth not in heaven singing and playing harps. After all if these annoited are mediators between man and Jesus how am I supposed to ask a question if these are ALL in heaven? Makes no sense what so ever.

JW kids who are currently in college LOVED the convention drama!
by urbanized inhere's a transcript of a post about the 2005 godly obedience convention (which i read about on this board and seemed to highlight a drama in which a biblical story was highly distorted in order to discourage higher education) from a jw youth group on www.myspace.com.

And the tree fell
by startingover inin the middle of the night, a tree in my yard split and half of it fell right across the street.
so early this morning i was up cutting it up and getting it out of the road.. now as i was doing this i started thinking about the noah story and what it would take to build something out of wood as large as the ark was described to be.
now i had a chain saw that made relatively quick work of it, but i can tell you that even a 2 foot piece of green lumber is quite heavy.

The largest wooden ships ever built, were around 300 feet long - 150 feet shorter than Noah's ark. These large ships could only function if they had steel reinforcing beams. Even then, they did not work very well, and continually needed to be pumped out. We are expected to believe that 600 year old Noah managed to solve engineering and construction problems that people 4000 years later have not mastered, without having the aid of any metal. and, as for the pyramids, yes they are pretty cool, but did you realize that they pre-date the flood?
The Chinese seem to have done it.

As far as a Global flood, I tend to believe it was local based upon the wording/meaning of the ancient Hebrew text. I believe the sory was blown out of proportion through the past few centuries and taught that it was Global.

The real problem of the ark, however, is the impossibility of the structural integrity of a wooden floating device of that size - it just can't be done.
I guess they said the Spruce Goose was impossible as well? The Pyramids also seem to baffle modern day scientists and are as straight as any modern day laser transit can do. I don't believe it is as far fetched as some propose.

I can't remember how the WTBS interpretes Revelation 9 and the falling star but from what I recall it did not make sense (like anything did). here is my take:
Revelation 9 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)Revelation 9
1 The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. 2 When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. 3 And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. 4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6 During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.
7 The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. 8 Their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. 9 They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. 10 They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months. 11 They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon. [a]
The star indicates to me that this would be Satan and has been given the key to the abyss. I believe the abyss here is directly related to 2 Peter and Jude where it speaks of the the original fallen angels (noah) being imprisoned. The WTBS says tartarus is a "spiritual" imprisonment but everything I have seen in Greek commentaries says otherwise. The word denotes a physical bonding/imprisonment. So, if we reflect on what Jesus said about the last days being as the days of noah were, eating and drinking, etc. it involves more than a precursory look.
ENOCH 7:1 And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them . . . And they 3 became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed 4 all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against 5 them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and 6 fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones. (The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament, R.H. Charles)
Here the eating and drinking and marrying infer something far more sinister than just having a good 'ole time. I wonder if Jesus was hinting (along with the words used in Revelation, 2 Peter, and Jude) that in the last days Satan would be authorized to release the depraved fallen angels who would be permitted to torture humans but not kill them. This would fit with Job where Jehovah allowed Satan to torture Job but not to go as far as death. It is interesting that Revelation speaks of these captives as locusts with what appears to be crowns, lions teeth, long hair as a woman, wings, and stingers. Could this show how depraved these angels might be? Crowns in the sense that angels are allowed to be "gods" or rulers in this system as is indicated in Daniel where it speaks of the prince of Perisa and king of Greece. Lions teeth which refers to Peter saying that Satan the Devil is likened to a lion on the hunt for rightous humans. Womens hair, which is shown in the bible to be a sign of disrespect for a man (these locusts have mens faces) further showing there unholiness.
The demons in Jesus day also begged him not to send them to the abyss so I wonder if this is one and the same. Perhaps in the end these depraved demons will be allowed to do there thing in which Revelation says many will long for death but not find it or a way out.
Also, what I find interesting is that a Beast ascends out of this abyss. Why does the WTBS insist that this is the UN or some other government? It almost sounds like the fallen angels have been working on there own means of governing people. Just a thought on this last part. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Entitled to Reach Out For Privileges?
by FairMind inone of he paragraphs in yesterdays watchtower lesson spoke of brothers presumptuously reaching out for positions or privileges within the congregation to which they are not entitled.
the indication was that doing this shows arrogance and lack of humility.
no one commented on this wt statement when the paragraph was covered and my guess is because it made no sense.

Forgot to mention that the WTS in the NWT specifically identifies TWO roles, Elder and Ministerial Servant. Yet the Greek in my opinion does not infer this but rather speaks of a person acting in a supervisory role or servant. I'm sure Paul was not inferring that such a position weild absolute power but rather the position was more than likely someone who could organize gatherings and take a spiritual lead in that they may have been entrusted with the letters/documents sent to the cong and required to inform the other members. I'm sure these also had a role in setting some straight by reviewing what was in the scrolls/letters. To me this sounds more loving and not power hungry as we see today. I've seen many elders take there position to the extreme and they won't even let others question there decisions or methods as they are "all knowing" (at least in their mind).
