Never heard a farmer call rain a blessing -- my Dad called it survival but he didn't have time for religious indoctrination -- nor would he listen to it.

Did Jesus say the God of the OT is not the same God as mine??
by Diogenesister inbart erhman states, in this you tube short presumably taken from the video series he has been doing with megan lewis*, that jesus said the god of the ot, the god of jeremiah, is not the (same)god as jesus.
bart continues "jeremiah's god killed (the children) - jesus said let the children come to me.
jesus' god said turn the other cheek" - the ot god was war-like etc (paraphrasing bart here a bit).. it's always been the thing that stopped my fully embracing the bible after leaving watchtower.

a pet peeve of mine
by enoughisenough inputting this under "friends" because i couldn't figure out where to put it.
it is very often on here and in ex jw videos, ect that people like to undermine some of those who once we would have called friends.
there seems to be a view that window washers, plumbers, cleaners, construction workers are somehow less intelligent than those who may be college educated.

RTN -- that's sad and the negative influence of those talks is disgusting.
I'd assume 'contract labor brothers' are in position to become skilled/knowledgeable and move up the chain -- I know many in construction do very well -- maybe only top percentile. What's sad -- a friend/mgmnt for one of the old dogs (GK big company/mammoth - the old dog co only takes on 20,000 sq. ft+ custom residential/recently completed 35,000 sq. ft/$75 mil home and construction workers strive/told me they were proud to work for him even 25 yrs. ago) recently told me playing field turning and it's once again a contractors' market. I never knew it wasn't! The contractors' young family members over segment of co. but they all go with the flow. Past couple yrs. millworkers, etc., were demanding X amt. giving Ks a real challenge but tides are changin'.

I've known proprietors of a couple very successful window and professional house cleaning businesses. Friend's grandfather started washing windows in NYC (many moons ago - my friend mid 60s/youngest granddaughter) and during career invested his lucrative earnings into Florida real estate (buildings) -- quite the land baron. The maid (residential) expanded her business to commercial cleaning, window cleaning, and landed gov contracts. She's done immensely well.
There's always a shortage of industrious, ethical, window/housekeeping businesses in this city and costs more than double than what paid in so california. Good luck squeezing in w/a reputable, solid, window cleaning company If not on monthly schedule. There's many start ups if you want to roll the dice.

Rank and file only believe what they're told and reply there's sinners and evil people in all religions. They rationalize everything/anything to avoid reality. The rhetorical line no independent thinking -- dangerous to think outside the dictates of Jehovah or GB is total control -- I couldn't believe and huge red flag for me. They take care of a lobotomy reducing any/all concentration of the brain.

Disillusioned -- I got it!! I can still wish otherwise but I have much 'hopium' -- lots of delusions. I'm a real skeptic -- and had doubts from Day 1 about WT but I was brainwashed reading the 'journals' as they were referred to. As stupid as they were -- I was hooked and had couple friends/ other women who couldn't wait to receive them. Just KRAZY!!

How Do You Know You Are In The Wrong Religion?
by Vanderhoven7 ini believe this list which many of us worked on needs to see the light of day again...and added to if possible.. you know you are in the wrong religion:1. when the all important question is not: "do you believe in the lord jesus christ?"....but....
"do you believe in the "faithful and discreet slave" appointed in brooklyn in 1919?"2.
when you will be refused baptism if: a. you don't believe jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bc (whereas all non-jw scholars, all encyclopedias and all history books say this event took place in 587 bc.)b.

Nico - Nice post and appreciate the positives for your Mum since many of us have beloved family in. If they'd protect the children, stop the shunning/blood issues it would be great/not happenin'! I don't care about their view on holidays -- so many secular folk can't stand them.
I have Morman friends who love their religion and have been in forever -- good people but the 2 JW friends I had (for short duration) are irreplaceable. I'm friends w/daughter of one and she couldn't run away fast enough from religion -- her Mom is aged now and shunned the oldest but not strong enough health wise to shun the youngest. I know Jewish couple who shun their son who married a non-jewish girl -- they've never met their beautiful grandies (grandchildren) -- just pathetic.

ExBeth - sorry, haven't had time to catch up here. I've always hoped there's a God and all (or most) could certainly use a bit of hope/help -- it's brutal thinking otherwise, however, trying to walk in reality and do the best I can for others and myself however limited the time, life's demands. Life is precious and I'm grateful for it, of course.

Negative -- miserable until epiphany of the con game and couldn't get out of Dodge fast enough but I was half way out the door/never gave up social life. I did receive calls (kind, good, men, for the most part only one bad apple and he got message real fast!) but I leveled plain and clear and living on private, live-security, property, helps -- they didn't have to waste time/call easier. They knew legally -- everyone has legal right to stand up to them (WT/clergy class just doing their job) and many have.

PROOF Mormons have the truth
by neat blue dog indaniel prophesied that god would “set up a kingdom” that would “never be destroyed” and would “stand for ever” (daniel 2:44).
in making this prophecy, he spoke of the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints... and it will continue to progress until it has “filled the whole earth”... hundreds of thousands of people are baptized every year.
the book of mormon is being translated in many languages.

joe134cd - Yup. Successful family lives, businesses, friendships. People not begging for handouts like JWs. Some can't help if compromised health, age, etc., but they certainly don't encourage strong work ethics or education for the young.

ExBethelite - yes, Geert Vanden Bossche has been right but his timing or something re/the escape of Omicron info is quite horrific. He does indicate it won't kill all those vaccinated (golly, that's good to know and gives us 'hopium') but society thinks the C-19 pandemic is calming but he's quite a different prognostication -- "Society Caught by Surprise," statement.
