The term Governing Body where did it come from?

is it exclusive of the dubs or did some other sect invent it?

ON Friday morning, October 1, 1971, the legal corporation known as Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania held its annual corporation meeting, this time in the Assembly Hall of Jehovah's witnesses at Buckingham, Pennsylvania. All seven members of the Board of Directors of said Society attended and had a part in the program presented. The membership of this Society is limited to five hundred at the most, there being at present four hundred and fifty such members throughout the earth. Many of these members attended this annual corporation meeting in person, still more by means of proxy. All together, 2,076 attended this corporation meeting, doubtless all of them being interested Christian witnesses of Jehovah.

this paragraph about the governing body follows a description of the annointed class, a classic bait-and-switch.

serious question - I feel I should know this. Why can one not declare in his heart today, ten years ago, etc. that he has had a calling to that class. I mean of course according to the witnesses. I think the whole thing is a bunch of hooey myself.

why was it "unjust" imprisonment - because they say so. and of course tying the pneumonia to prison makes it sound like it was contracted in prison. who knows. actually someone probably does and may comment on it.

as i see it, there are three looming threats that all have the potential - individually or combined - to bring the wbts to its knees, at least in the united states, anyway.. 1. youth retention.

the young people aren't buying it.

the watchtower will argue that faithless young people are giving in to demonic persuasion and leaving the truth.

I had a call from two "brothers" recently and one I didn't know, the other I did although not well. The one that I knew the best has been a lifer. Went back east to pioneer and spent many years doing so. Moved back "home" to help look after an aging parent. Anyway the point I want ot make is how shocked I was at his responses to my out and out doubts. He acknowledged that he didn't get the generation thing and basically fell back on the "who do we go away to" scenario. I did not expect that reaction at all. To me it shows how willing to put the doubts and crazy teachings aside they are. As an aside to that experience I have a brother who shows that same tenacity to put aside all the silly things that should cause doubts and frustrations and stick in there and keep on keepin on.

Many moons ago my wife and I were "privileged" to be used in an experience demo. The district overseer Laurier Saumur caressed the details until they suited his wishes exactly. I still remember how difficult it sometimes was to come up with demos from the local circuits to fit what the assembly programs wanted. Announcements for months in advance in congregations throughout the circuit, begging for someone that could provide a suitable experience.

Thanks be to Jah, all praise is due to him!--It was especially nice, because we got to be in our new Assembly hall, that was dedicated just a couple of weeks ago. Jah, is awsome in all his ways!...His understanding is truly unsearchable, and his ways...Past finding out!!!

Heartofaboy - When I was an elduh I had a frustrated thingy trying to keep up with the little changes in language. You know book study conductor, then overseer; the title of the Kingdom Ministry changing, etc., etc. And this one sister who was quite smart and very well studied noticing and correcting me as though that stuff mattered a damn. I think part of my problem was laziness in keeping up but equally I just didn't think it mattered that much. But to some it was sacrilege to not use the current up todate verbiage, yuk.

Demons and the WTS

i remember growing up and hearing all sorts of stories about demonic activity from people.

some would be experiences that people had going door to door and visiting a "witch" or "warlock".

some would inadvertently go to a fortune tellers door and have a demonic experience.. i was always facinated by all the stories.

I remember back in tlhe day calling on this older gent who would look behind himself and talk to "someone" and we felt that he was bothered by demons. Because of the personality of the brother that I was with this guy was actually a return visit. i have come to realize the poor bugger was likely just Schizophrenic
