what is the official stance on if there has not been 'new light' published?

i thought if no new light published the 'old' still stands.

My parents still believe this !!!

I think in my parent's case "new light" really isn't "new light" it's just a form of "theocratic warfare" meant to "weed out" the "faithful" from the "unfaithful," but the original belief still stands as "truth" in their mind.

I believe they still think it's a conspiracy of the greedy aluminum pot makers of the world that has hidden the true facts that aluminum causes physical/mental ailments, because the WTS can NEVER be wrong...

It's all so freakin' convoluted!

Not to mention the look of shock I had on my face as my parent's told me I should buy white eggs rather than the brown free-run eggs I had been buying, because brown ones seemed to have more of those blood spots in them! Crazy, crazy, crazy!

Insecure posters

i wonder if it's just me, or if other posters are like this.

do any of you start to type a post, then hit the back button, or quit your post because your afraid of saying something stupid or "wrong," or reread some of your previous posts and wonder, what you were thinking when you posted it?.

i find most people on this board more than willing to accept you for whatever you say in a post, but i still frequently shy away from hitting that 'submit post' button.. rose (pushing the submit button before chickening out again)

Letter to expert child psycologist re. minors refusing medical treatment

i was recently discussing an issue with someone, and as she had previously attended one of your lectures, she suggested that i contact you to see if you would possibly have some information that i require.

i am seeking legislative change regarding the allowance of "mature minor" status for children who wish to refuse live-saving or live-extending medical treatment on the basis of religious choice.

Are You For or Against Abortion?

I was faced with this decision in 1997 with my 6th child. On his 16 week ultrasound he was diagnosed as having a large cystic hygroma. It was a huge sack of lymphatic fluid which was septated (a more deadly form). I was told the baby would not live, and if he did, he would have severe handicaps such as heart defects, liver defects, chromosomal abnormalities, etc.

I was not a very active dub at the time, but opted to "let nature take its course."

I am happy to say, I have a beatiful, loving little boy who totally beat the odds. He's mildly mentally challenged (an IQ of 69), but is an amazing kid, who brings us joy every day. He has no other defects. I'm so glad I didn't make a different choice.

That having been said, though, I believe that people faced with the likelihood their child will be born with a defect be allowed to make this sort of choice. I also believe there are situations where termination of pregnancy is appropriate for some individuals.

I don't believe people should use abortion as a form of birth control. One of our patients just had her 5th abortion in 6 years. One of her pregnancies was terminated at 26 weeks, for which she had to go to the United States to have, as she was too far along to have it done here. This really bothers me.

An End To Shunning

well, in my case anyway.

for those of you that may recall my posts about my family and that after i left the wts, how i wrote long (and painful) letters to my nonjw children among others.

i had tried to explain why i had shunned them and how very sorry i was, and for all the mistakes i had made throughout their childhoods as a jw mother.

Sunspot: Thank you for sharing your story. I managed to hold the tears from flowing in your first post, but by the time I read your second, that was it...they were streaming down my face - and still are as I write this.

holy crap it's hotter than hell out there!!

i know, i know, i had bitched back in early may cause it was snowing outside, but this is crazy!

right now, it's 30 celcius, or 86 fairenheit outside.

Thank you all for your best wishes for my daughter.

She's going into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

I sure wish I'd had that opportunity. However, I suppose I should be happy with getting through school as a single parent of 6 (I just graduated from College in 2000!)

When I told my mother I was going to go, she looked at me with that worried look she gets and said, "don't you think this is the wrong time to be doing this the end is so close!" I went anyways, thank god, but for a moment the guilt factor set in and I actually considered what she said. Did she expect me to raise these kids with no child support on welfare or working at Wendy's?
