Medical "Checkups" are not covered by our universal health care in BC, unless you are over the age of 65, or have a health condition, such as diabetes or heart disease, or at a regular appointment the pysician determines that a physical exam may be necessary. Our clinic charges $70. for such an exam, but the BC Medical Association fee guide allows us to charge up to $120. Paps and gynecological exams are covered. Eye examinations cost arout $70 for adults (not covered under our universal healthcare), and $7 for kids under 19 (subsidized by our healthcare system).

Cost of Healthcare Checkups sans Medical Insurance
by betterdaze inyou're looking at $500 minimum.
if you can find a private dr. who takes cash.
most won't take you on, because then there's an implied relationship that they continue to be on the hook for, malpractice insurance wise.. you can go to a clinic, it will cost you the whole day and maybe $250.

Big JW mutiny in the Vancouver BC area!!
by 1914BS inwell this year'a assembly is over and the dubs in the vancouver bc area are mad at the gb.
about 100.000 dubs had to travel all the way to kamloops bc about a 300 mile drive one way!!.
i have heard that that each dub had to shell out $500 bucks and more for food and lodging just to hear some druel about scolio.

Well, I have to admit. I was wrong. I thought it was crazy sending the Vancouver/Lower Mainland sheeples all the way to Kamloops for the assembly, but it was true!
I had a chat with my mother last night, as my grandmother is back in the hospital with complications she had from her hip fracture she suffered in the hotel while attending the convention, and I guess that constituted "family business." So I had the chance to ask her.
Evidently my grandmother fell on Saturday, but refused to go the hospital in Kamloops, because she had to make the Sunday session. They drove home to Surrey, and then was taken to the hospital. Absolutely NUTS!
I appologize for giving false info. I think my mother was questioning why this change, and stated the cost of travel/hotel was substantially more for them, but that they "enjoyed" the trip. It also killed me that my mother, already being in Kamloops for her assembly on July 11, couldn't have taken 1-2 hours out of her day to come to my wedding in Sicamous, about 20 minutes away.

My parents live in Surrey. I'm quite sure they went to Abbotsford, not Kamloops, for their a$$embly. I'm not 100%, but my 98-year-old jw grandmother had a fall in the hotel they were staying in and suffered a hip fracture, and ended up at Peach Arch (White Rock) Hospital, so I don't think they were in Kamloops.
Kelowna, where I reside, has been sent to Kamloops (about 1 hour away) for the ASSemblies since about 2000. I've never been to an assembly in Kamloops, the last one I attended was in Penticton (about 40 minutes away).

JWD found my best friend... after 25 years.
by POs Son inabout two years ago, i read a post on jwd asking if there was anyone from the xyz congregation.
recognizing this as the congregation in which i was raised, i made contact with the poster.
it turned out to be my next door neighbor when i was a child, she was my babysitter, and best friend..

I have something to ask, about child molestation cases.
by dawg inok, so in the gilbert simental molestation case, the elders hid behind clergy client privilege.
but why didn't they want to speak out against a molester?
why did they not happily say,"yes, ole brother gilbert told us what he did"?

From the perspective of the victim. You think that Jehovah's organization is perfect and loves you. You tell the elders that a grown man (an elder) has been molesting you throughout your early teens. It takes a while to realize that this is inappropriate behaviour, because elders are chosen by holy spirit as shepherds of the congregation, so why would they do anything to harm you. You've been taught to trust everyone that is JW, and distrust everyone not JW. Most of all to trust an elder.
You embarrassingly go and tell your story. They listen, with blank looks on their faces...like they don't want to hear what you are saying. They offer NO support, NO acknowledgement, nothing. That's it. You've bared your soul...and nothing. You see the brother/elder giving talks, walking around the assemblies with their "attendant" labels on. You feel exposed. You feel disbelieved.
Was this man repentant? Was he dealt with privately? Was anything done? Did he deny the whole thing? WHAT HAPPPENED??
You're never informed, because that's confidential information. Being the victim gives you no "in" to this confidential information. Then, they tell you to not speak about it to anyone else in the congregation. If you do, you will face df'ing, because it's going against theocratic order. In the end, the victim wonders if she/he is crazy. Did it even happen? Because if it did, surely Jehovah would see to it being made right. But, NO...
....because at all costs, the reputation of the organization comes before the sanity of the victim.

The cover art for my new JW memoir!
by klydia inhey all, .
my memoir about growing up as a jehovah's witness is being released by touchstone in march '09 and wanted to share the news with the ex-jw community.
it's called "i'm perfect, you're doomed - tales from a jehovah's witness upbringing.

Kyria--looks great, loved the read. One comment though. The girl on the cover is dressed like a parochial school student, not a Dub. Can they put her in a meetin' dress and give her a little bookbag to carry?
I thought the same thing...the skirt is too short...it needs to be past the knee, you know. I loved the read...and can't wait for the book.
