  i've never posted here before, but i've lurked patiently for a few weeks, debating on whether or not to tackle a new message board.

  i guess i'll make at least one post and see what happens.

  Mental illness among JWs: cause or effect?

  there is compelling, published evidence (see link below) to suggest higher rates of mental illness among jws compared to other religious sects, and the general population.

  what is your opinion, is this because people with "susceptibility" to mental illness are more likely to be attracted to the lifestyle and psychology of the wts, or after joining and being an active member for years, the jw psychology and lifestyle are simply enough to push any psychologically healthy individual into psychopathology?

  So, unless a JW grabs a kid's crotch in front of two or three other people, he didn't do it? Then they silence the kid and act like the pedophile is innocent?

  They're supporting pedophilia, plain and simple. More can be done to find out what's going on than having two or three witnesses around. We have a little something that wasn't available when the Bible was written...technology anyone? DNA analysis? Video cameras? A more thorough judicial process?

  we were jws at the time, and the family on the first floor under us was studying.. the girl downstairs started hearing noises during the night and finally hearing steps up to the side of her bed.

  Maybe someone has to be slightly mentally ill to join up (or at least stick around) in the first place?

  I knew many mentally challenged people at the hall, but most were like that before they joined. Many people join because they hope to be 'cured' in the new system and finally live a normal life.

  My cousin has MD, and all his mother talks about is how Josh will be able to walk after Armageddon. It's sad when people are so desperate that they'll believe anything to get their hopes up.

  I have to start planning for retirement, for old age, and other things that I never ever thought about before.

  I'm not sure why the Witnesses don't care about their future in this world. Even if Armageddon were real, no one knows when it's going to come.

  Every time someone would bring up a future event in a social setting, at least one witnoid would say, "The world won't be here in 5 years anyway, so it doesn't matter!"

  That was over 10 years ago. I'm sure the same imbeciles who made these statements are still saying the same thing.
