i watched an interesting film last night.
"a handful of dust" with kristen scott-thomas and alec guinness.. it wasn't bad, so this morning i idly took a peek at the write ups on the net, it being a movie made in the 80's.
to my astonishment, some american viwers were complaining that the movie didn't have any sub-titles!!!
Living in Southern England, I understand English spoken properly and have no difficulty with the American accent.
We speak English properly. We just perfected the language by pronouncing words the way they're spelled. You know, we say 'r' at the end of words that end in 'r' instead of saying 'ah'. We also fixed the spelling of many words like center, theater, shop, favorite, etc to make them agree with their pronunciation..
Stuff like that.
i think it would be great final chapter in my healing process, and would love to catch up with my life anyway (most of guys of my generation have finished it long ago and have kids).
i'm interested in science and engineering, but i'm afraid my mind my have become too dull over many years of brain washing.
social sciences sound great too but im not sure if i like them enough to pursue such degree to the end.
I know it's not easy after you've been out of school for a few years. I didn't go until 5 years after I graduated, and I forgot so much! I had to go back and take a remedial algebra class before I could take college algebra, and I had trig and calculus in high school.
Good luck with it. I'm doing good so far (3.7 gpa), so it can be done. I had a 4.0 during the first year but I got tired of working so hard on studies while attempting to pay bills.
i was watching tv a little bit ago, and they had a quick one minute total break showing the tropical storm, and then spent 30 solid seconds talking about the witnesses at the district convention this weekend in san diego.. they showed a few from the audience looking as bored as could be, and then showed some getting baptized.
i was very suprised they would take the time to show that.
as if anyone cares.
I never understood how people could actually camp out for THREE DAYS at that borefest. I had enough trouble staying awake for one day. I remember the highlight was waiting for one of the 'remnant' to speak.
What a joke. I could put my dog on stage and say he's one of the remnant for all they know.
this question is aimed more at watchtower scholars who have impressed me with their ability to unearth amazing stuff from the distant and more recent past on statements made in watchtower publications:
1. has the watchtower ever directly critcised the islamic faith or its sacred text, the koran?
if so, what are some specific examples.
I think they're too busy bashing other Christian sects to focus on Islam.

o.k, so i'm sitting here at work, watching the transformers season 1 dvd, and i have a very importat question....... when megatron transformed into that gun, did he get smaller, or did starscream get bigger....?.
something thats been bothering me for oh...... 15 yrs or so.

How did the other transformers ride inside of Jetfire? When he was a robot he was the same size as the rest.
It reminds me of The Legend of Zelda. Where did Link keep all those weapons? He'd pull a hammer out of his pocket as big as his entire body.

IMO, the state of the world is better now than it has ever been. The media and the ability to broadcast news instantly have made it seem otherwise.
Exactly. I'm unsure why JWs think things are worse than ever and the 'Treat Tribulation' is right around the corner.

Whether Jesus is coming or not, we should try to do more in this system of things to help the world, not just donate money for more Watchtowers.
No one knows when [if] the end will come. It's been "near" for the past 2000 years, and may be "near" for another 2000. I'm sick of the state of the world too, but simply peddling literature isn't going to change it. More needs to be done. More compassion needs to be shown.
Just think of all the good people could do if they volunteered only half of their field service time to a worthy charity: Be a big brother or sister to a troubled kid. Be there for an alcoholic who's struggling to get sober. Be there for and help council the homeless in a soup kitchen. Just be there for ANYONE who's going down the wrong path or is having a troubled life. I don't think that only JWs should apply. JWs want the world to change so much, yet all they can come up with is selling books and magazines telling people how good the world will one day be.
Why can't the world be good now? It's not an impossibility. My world is just fine.
he has been on several pain medications for his back, he is disabled with it.
he was seeing people outside his house that wasn't there.
he saw an alien in his closet and was talking to it and trying to help it cool down, he was hot himself.
Hopefully everthing will work out for the best.
Do you monitor his pain medication or does he do it himself? I've known quite a few people with cronic pain who abused their pills and became addicted. It sounds like he's taking too many at once.
this has probably been done before, but has anyone had any scary or funny things happen to them during field service?
i used to go door-to-door with the most obnoxious elder in the world.
if we approached a house, saw signs of life, but they didn't answer the door, he'd actually go around and knock on their windows!
