What is WRONG with people? (Looters, shooters, et al)
by AlmostAtheist ini'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.
shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.
it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

um no, i have not watched trauma life in the ER, but i do have family in New Orleans. I understand the gang complications and this is an excuse for a nation holding the single most powerful organized military structure in the world.
Aren't they all of our "people"..?
of course you crazy monkey...which is why someone of authority needs to be standing up for them so immediate action can be taken. -

Living in a new area...again
by Chia ini had no idea where to put this.

i just moved from poughkeepsie, ny to hatfield, pa. i only know a few people here in town and i don't have a job yet.

hi chia,
i was going to respond to another thread of yours when i read you were relocating to PA but did not get a chance to. actually i had a response all typed out but was running late for a class and did not save it.
yes I have been there. i've moved all over the country throughout the past five years, supporting my husband and his job. from pa to ks, to md, ri, and now wa state. some of those places nice, others down right dreadful geographically speaking.
here is what i wish i knew. do not stay indoors. get out there and meet people, make connections. get a job, as you seem to be already working on. (i have a job interview tomorrow too...good luck to us!) do not allow yourself to become codependent on your boyfriend...at all. not saying you would or will. but coming out of the org, moving to a new place w. no family...a few conditions that would make such a thing very possible for any young woman. even if he is the world's swellest bf, your sense of self worth and adjustment ability will be stronger if you can stand on your own two feet independently from him.
i am proud of you for having the courage to leave home. hope all is working out for your brother. if you ever get lonely, bored, depressed, find yourself laying on the floor staring at the ceiling wondering how the heck did i get here?, etc. pm me.

Four days after this and these people have no food or water,,,,,,,,,at the Superdome? How can the US not provide at least that?
I know...wtf is going on? four days? i am seeing infants on the news that will be dead soon if they do not get formula. No seriously, why are they not airdropping aid to these people. Helicopters being shot at? so what. are you telling me bushie's admin cannot immediately deploy black hawks in there to deal with these alleged "missile laden gang lords?"
Also, i think they are exaggerating things a bit. honestly. it is not like these are organized guerrillas with contraband. these are poor desperate people with stolen hand guns from walmart. geez. no not jesus, jesse jackson. where is that mug when you need him. his people need some civil justice and relief here asap. if a hurricane hit capitol hill and everyone was trapped within the national mall, i wonder how long it would take for those assholes to get aid.

So, Who are the people that ignore BIG warnings?
by upside/down ini mean...it doesn't matter what the potential disaster is...there is always a group of morons that think they are invincible and can weather anything mother nature can throw at them.... is this evolutions way of strengthening the strain?
or is it weeding out the stupid weak?.
i'm not talking about the sick and poor that can't ...but the healthy fools that stay...and die.. it doesn't matter it's a volcano, tsunami, tornado, forest fire, hurricane, typhoon.....or a big toothed carnivorous animal...there is always the moron who demands to stay and face imminent harm and death...instead of using his brain and just temporarily relocating...to a safer locale.

maybe a small percent are fascinated with natural disasters and they want to witness it. when i lived in tornado alley i didnt pay any attention to those dopplar radar national weather warning cries to get into basements. i stood outside or drove around hoping to catch a twister forming above me. i thought it would be "exciting."

National Geographic beats hell outa Watchtower
by SixofNine inwhen the wt gets anything this right, it will be a happy day for the governing body.
but then again, the national geographic has the built in advantage of having an editorial content that focuses on reality.
"thousands drowned in the murky brew that was soon contaminated by sewage and industrial waste.

chrissy
agreed. cheers to national geo for always getting it right and for taking us all over the world and into the heart of the most isolated indigenous tribes.
sept issue is an amazing special on africa...it actually makes you feel hopeful for the future fate of this continent with so many struggles.

does god listen to prayers?
by el jarocho mayor inwhen people pray does god listen?
does he care?
when prayers are "answered", is that proof of a divine being?
-
chrissy
I've never had any of my prayers answered. not a single one. not even that one to satan.
