  The muriqui can weigh up to 15 kg (33 lb). Found in the remnants of the Atlantic coastal forest in Brazil, the muriqui is arboreal and diurnal and eats mostly leaves, fruit and flowers. It is able to utilize secondary as well as primary forest.

  Troops of muriquis have been observed to include from 8 - 43 individuals. They generally contain approximately equal numbers of adult males and adult females. Immature females emigrate from the troop in which they were born in search of a neighboring troop to join. Males remain with their natal troop and reproduce there. There is very little aggression among group members and they are not territorial. A single young is usually born during the dry season (May - September).

  Prior to the European colonization of South America, the muriqui is estimated to have numbered 400,000. It had decreased to 3000 by 1971 and to less than 1000 as of 1997. It has declined due to hunting for food by local natives and to clearing of forests for agriculture and human habitation (more than 95% of the original Atlantic coastal forest has been eliminated).

  *** The muriqui is one of the world's rarest mammals.

  *** It is the largest South American primate.

  *** The name "muriqui" comes from the Tupi Indians.

  *** The two distinct subspecies, Brachyteles arachnoides arachnoides and B. a. hypoxanthus (which some authorities consider to be full species, B. arachnoides and B. hypoxanthus) differ in that B. a. arachnoides has a small but still obvious thumb, whereas B. a. hypoxanthus has no thumb at all (Nowak 1999).

  I gave pretty excellent talks.

  I was the most nervous about writing them. I would fret over them unnecessarily. 'Should I say this or that...'

  But as long as I had at least some crude outline on paper, it came out fine. Especially after I had a lot of practice giving last-minute subs.

  I don't know why I did so well, as in my everyday speech I am not nearly so polished.

  Maybe I had the holy ghost.

  in late november 1989 we decided to visit our new town, and see our new house.

  we scoped out the small town for its amenities, and this included a visit to the kingdom hall where we would eventually attend.. hindsight, being 20-20, i regret now that i did not try to get my family out of the organization before the move.

  By the way, my father told me more this morning about his own 'conscience' matter that the elders rudely tried to override with their own consciences. He lost his job a few years ago because of this and he is still smarting from the pain.

  I think he must be miserable right now, with 2 disfellowshipped sons and 1 son (me) that's an atheist.

  Maybe I can share this with him.

  there is that old story i'm reminded of sometimes about the world being full of three types of people.

  the people who make things happen, the people who watch things happen, and the people who have no idea of what is going on.

  i thought you might want to at least be in the second catagory so i wanted to share something i found interesting with you.. i have two short poems and a short story for you to read below, and if you care to read these you might find something quite remarkable about them.. long years have passed.

  This is an awesome thread, Mind!

  I am intrigued by stuff like this. These types of evolutionary algorithms will be extremely powerful when computing power goes kaboom sometime in the next decade, for example, the realization of molecular or quantum computing.

  Mindchild, are the typos yours or the computer program's? I don't mean to be picky. Just curious because once, for example, the subject needed to be plural: "Hart had often said—to other and to himself—" Italics added

  Still this is an awesome demonstration. Keep us posted if you hear about more uses of these algorithms.

  One thing that really interests me is the use of cellular automata. I can't seem to find too much info on what is new and sexy in that field, however.

  If I do, I will let you know.

  you know your kingdom hall is in trouble when:.

  1. in a congregation with 200 dubs, there are only seven who show up to the watchtower study and they are all apostates.. 2. finding and returning lost sheep is no longer a parable.. 3. there is a special fund raising meeting to pay the plumber to unclog the toilets.. 4. baptism is referred to as branding by the circuit overbeer.. 5. field service meetings are conducted at mcdonalds.

  6. opening day of football season preempts the sunday meeting.. 7. the elders cant afford a stamp to mail the societies monthly cut to them.. 8. the song selected to start the meeting is mick jaegers i cant get no satisfaction.
