  Holy spirit bears witness with them....

  howdy folks.

  had a chat the other day with an elder who lnows jws all over the world and he was telling me that in a u.s. cong a sister has just decided she is one of the 144000 - she is 41 years old.

  in the same cong a brother aged 55 has recently decided he is one of the immortals as well.. they both claim that the holy spirit has bore witness to them.. what do you think such ones are actually feeling?

  Its a funny one isnt it? Its the only thing the WBTS cant regulate because they have left it open that 'you just know, because the holy spirit tells you'. So that means that they cant tell someone they are not, but they sure as hell can frown a lot and gossip about how they dont SEEM like one of the annointed.

  I think its a system thats bound to attract loonies and delusionals. Its like god sanctioned mental illness to me. Because lots of mentally ill people think they were characters in history, and its never a scrote or a pauper or someone who died in the plague, its always someone really important like Jesus, Cleopatra, Napoleon! To me, thinking you are one of the 144 000 is the JW equivalent of thinking you were Pharoah in a past life.

  When I was a JW I felt like such a nobody it would have never occured to me to think I was anything as important as a member of the annointed. Maybe it takes a certain kind of self assurance to think you are one.

  Just supposing I was thinking of emigrating to Australia..

  anyone who lives in australia - is there a need for secondary school mathematics teachers?

  what general advice would you give about location / quality of life / anything else at all you think i should know.. anyone who has ever emigrated anywhere - any advice at all about anything to do with moving ?.

  Thats really kind of you Brinjen. Thank you. PLEASE dont waste too much time on it though, I must stress this is only a very little mental dabble, not a fully formed plan. Its just that it seems like im in a good position to do it, and it would be criminal not to at least investigate the possibility.

  my bf and i have been together for about 2 years.

  he has this ex gf from college who he stayed friends with.

  i am not the jealous type so i never cared even though he had a problem with me being friendly with my exes.

  I think shes just very very lonely and for some reason has decided to stagnate at a point 15 years ago when she imagined she was happy, instead of moving on in a healthy way and looking for life again. I would pity her, she probably needs counselling. After 15 years she is really remembering things better than they were, and has had time to forget things enough to move your man into an impossibly high pedestal. Hes up with the gods in her mind!

  I was in that place once, but not for 15 years admittedly!! It takes a special kind of low self esteem to hang onto something that died so many years ago and not be able to move on in life. She was just having a punt to see if he had done the whole marriage / baby thing and was ready to go backwards back to her (yeah right! - even if he didnt want you, he'd be more likely to move onto someone else rather than move backwards to someone he outgrew 15 years ago).

  Anyway, I guess your lucky, you have such a great man who did and said all the right things.

  I must stress im just thinking about it in the very loosest 'is it even wildly possible' sort of terms. The biggest problem would be whether my 10 year old daughters father could prevent her from going (in which case we would leave it until she was 16 or 18). Oh and of course the fact that it takes a HUGE amount of nuts to move to another country! But id like to dip my toe and see Maybe its just new year fantasy stuff...

  I know I have enough points to get in (120) and also I have an Australian birth certificate (but a British passport). Im not sure if that would help me or not.

  I know of a low self esteem woman who is married to a handsome successful wealthy self assured man, and she is paranoid all the time that he is going to leave her. She texts and phones him constantly every time he goes out. My partner works closely with him and tells me that hes really loyal, not a bit flirtatious and never looks at other women.

  I saw this man for the first time the other day and he really is jaw droppingly good looking. I would imagine his wifes low self esteem must wear him down.

  I would think we tend to go for people who dont scare us, and if we have low self esteem we would be intimidated by someone with high self esteem, and we might constantly wonder why they were with us, and perhaps unconsciously sabotage the relationship.

  Question about maternity leave

  is it true that in america there is no paid maternity leave?.

  if so surely that means most people have to return to work pretty quick after they have had a baby?

  if thats true, then surely that means its not possible to breast feed your baby exclusively for any time at all?

  I breast fed all five of mine, including very hungry twin boys and don't regret a moment of it!

  All respect to you - feeding twins must have been incredibly hard work!

  I must admit I LOVE breastfeeding - its so close and bonding. When he needs to feed I need him to feed as much as he needs it. Its a wonderful thing to be able to do, im sure babies are more contented and calm for it.

  No im not going to stop breastfeeding when I go back to work, but of course he will have to accept a bottle by then, so it wont be exclusive breast feeding.

  Are there laws in the US about not being able to be turned out of restaurants if you are breastfeeding? I think its illegal now in the UK to be asked to go and sit in the toilet or to leave the premises. But I have never had a negative reaction because I have always been so discreet about it.

  I may sound like a cave man...but I am a union member

  Well I truly believe in unionisation. Its one of the reasons I chose teaching as a profession - theres no stigma to joining a union and teaching unions are strong in the UK.

  I do know of industries that actively discourage unions, and I know of some places that have closed and opened miles away with different staff rather than let their employees unionise - MacDonalds have done this in the US.

  If you work for a company with over 100 employees and you have been on the job for over a year, you could get up to 6 weeks off without being fired.

  OH MY GOD - 6 weeks? Is that all? 6 weeks is nothing, and mothers are expected to leave their little ones and go back to work so soon? Thats so sad. Babies cant even hold their own heads at 6 weeks, they have been inside their mothers for 9 months and within 6 weeks they are expected to go without their mums all day? My god, poor little things - and poor mums who must still be reeling from giving birth.

  Thats a terrible system. Im so lucky. I can take a year off, but about 6 months of it would be unpaid, so I will take 7 months off. At least I will have been able to wean my baby before I go back to work, and will feel like he is more able to cope with being without me, and me without him.
