Can't Americans Understand Plain English?

"a handful of dust" with kristen scott-thomas and alec guinness.. it wasn't bad, so this morning i idly took a peek at the write ups on the net, it being a movie made in the 80's.
to my astonishment, some american viwers were complaining that the movie didn't have any sub-titles!!!

i've just been scanning british sky tv and in 10 mins, at 6.30pm here, this programme starts.. it says that it is a documentary revealing the truth behind some of michael's bizarre accentricities and a life spent in the media spotlight from an early age.. i'm wondering if the jw thing will come out?!.

I love the way this thread started off as the brits trying to have a go at the yanks for not understanding our accent, and immediately descended into brit northerners v brit southerners! All is as it should be with the world.
Heres a couple of jokes that will offend a maximum number people:
Q Why do Northerners hate southerners?
A Because it saves time
Some americans are doing a tour of Yorkshire. They go to see York Cathedral, and this yank (cos all americans are called yanks, right?) says "jee thats kinda cute. But back in the states we have one three times that size" They then go to see the Humber Bridge (which probably isnt even in Yorkshire, which shows that ignorant people like me revel in pathetic stereotypes like this joke). The yank says "why back in the states we have bridges twice that size". They then go to a farm and are walking through the orchard. The farmer shows them the apples and the Yank says "back in the states we have apples four times that size" and the farmer says "aye well we mek 'em to fit our mouths".
Of course I dont find either of those jokes even slightly amusing.

Are Bethelites more likely to leave the JWs than others?
by Gill inhave you any experience of families whose sons have gone off to bethel and then decided to not have any more contact with their family and jws at all very soon after returning?.
i ask this question because i know of two families where this has been the case.. the first family had three sons who one after the other went to the london bether to 'serve' within a couple of years of eachother.. after three years there all three returned home completely different people.
they then left home, left dub land, two married non jws and another lives with his girlfriend.

After I left the dubs I got laid by a recently left London Bethel boy - fantastic! He left because him and his friends had all been asked to leave Bethel pronto because they went once to Stringfellows (nightclub). I think they were given about 24 hours to get out. Charming, no thanks for all their free frickin work or anything.
BTW I have an ex sister in law who I think is still at London Bethel, but know what? I cant find the london bethel phone number anywhere, so I cant catch up with her. Does anyone know Sarah Leighton? (new surname now, as she got remarried)
