My life or love? do i deserve to choose?

i'm 18, my whole life i've been fed a lie that my whole family believes is true, they've done nothing but try to help me in what ever ways their religion will allow them, and now wfter being sheltered, confused, but taken care of physically and what my mother thinks is spiritually i'm ready to leave it all ebhind, friends, family and more because now i'm of age and can see the numerous flaws and problems in the orginization.

do i deserve to choose what to do.

i'm between a rock and a hardplace.

I feel your fear, its a terrifying place to find yourself in. Insecurities can eat away until a powerlessness holds you chained. The awful knwing guilt!

Only you can make the decision but I urge you to live the life that your heart and your happiness deserves.

I have learnt to combat the guilt by reminding myself of the love I feel for my family which is seperate from their indoctrinations. It isn't easy but living a lie is the most terrible one can do to their spirit.....it positively kills.

There are so many amazing things out there just waiting for you. You have already had a wonderful experience with your girlfriend and I promise there's more.

When I left the JW's (I wasn't baptized just brought up in it) I hit the road. Even those many miles away in Asia or South America I was grappled with the hurt but I saw the world beyond too and it was one of so many possibilities. Happiness is possib;le but you must follow your own path.

You can not hold the guilt for everyone else, yes you do deserve to live your own life, your own way

claire ended up having to go home from work because he was feeling so weak and having some trouble breathing.. here are her emails.

after reading the responses to amazing1914's recent post, i decided this would be a great thread to start.

please share some of your memories!.

when my mother first became a jw, i was very sporatic with meeting attendance.

When I read through everyones experience of childhood in the watchtower regime and consider my own, one word comes to mind, and that´s SELFISHNESS. The complete and utter SELF-CENTREDNESS of JW PARENTS.

Mostly there isn´t even awareness of this selfishness. My parents continue to believe they ´did what what was best for me´. And there lies the most dangerous problem, SELF-DELUSION.

When I relate my experiences both of childhood and present day to my partner he is sickened. "SICKENED" is the word he uses. I to am SICK of this fucking religion. The way it tears at life even after a person has left many years before, it clings on like cyanide. Using the ties a person holds with his or her own flesh and blood and using it to cause pain and suffering. All that bollocks about the standard of today´s ´´bad sexual morals" (lifes most beautiful, exciting, passionate, inspiring act´- sex) what about the morals of this shit they put on families?

Sadness shadows me. I can not shake it. Always a little torn.

Still I guess life must go on.

hi, i'm lynne.. i was wondering about religion for months and found this website.. i was hoping to get some feedbacks... almost everyone in my mom's family is a witness, and i was born and raised as a witness.

and yet, i never really wanted to get baptized, maybe because my father left the truth(?

although i don't like the expression, the truth, i don't know what else to say.. heh..).

The WTBTS actually brought a court case against him in 1997 for the contents of this site. On that note I think you should dive into it immediately.

I say to you Lynne set yourself free. FIND YOUR OWN TRUTH, find it on your terms and among your own boundaries. At first you may feel lost but this will pass. Life is beautiful in many many ways and lived fully and deeply with your own direction you will feel liberated (I promise).

I was never baptised leaving the borg at the age of 16 (this you can be thankful for, so many, as you will read on this forum, have had the added burden of dfing). No it was not easy but I wouldn´t have it any other way. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE.

Now I spend much of my time travelling (India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil) I highly recommend it. Don´t waste your time with this cult go see the world for yourself. Peace will come, a gorgeous serenity from just being content with what is. Only you can give this to yourself no one can do it for you and especially not an inflexible org with blood on its hands.

The best of luck. Listen to your instinct and make a decision for your higher good, yourself not others.

As for your mother, there is a strong possibility that she will come round. After a stint of not speaking, my parents and I are on reasonable terms. I make it clear that my interest lies with them and NOT the org they follow. Ups and downs yes but one must respect onself.

Would you go to a funeral at the Kingdom Hall?

so my brother and i have been having talks about what will happen when our dad passes away eventually.

most of his brothers and sisters have died in their 50's or early 60's.

i flat out refuse to attend any part of the service that would be done at the kingdom hall.

I went to my grandfathers funeral last summer at the kingdom hall. Most of the family are not JW´s, only my mother and father (it was my mothers father). It was pretty terrible. Some elder blabbing on about armageddon and changing ones path in life to the biblical one, that certain ones would perish blah blah. I was pretty pissed off this was supposed to be a memorial service, memories of my grandfather not some hardcore conversion bashing. Needless to say, the rest of the family intelligent and successful were stunned and thus it had the opposite effect. Some even laughed at the ridiculousness of the speech. The elder made my grandmother so upset she wanted to leave. A very wealthy women she told the elder in no uncertain terms that he was not to visit her. He´s not getting his hands on money she quipped.

My cousin and I had prepared small speeches but were refused the right to read them at the KH. We were relegated to the food reception restaurant afterward. That reception was much more of a memorial, with life stories, merriment, sadness, laughter, tears and jolly good knees up!!!

It had been years since I had entered the KH and it only served to remind me of its dreadfulness. Converted back...not a fucking chance.

i have had it with the jw child abuse policy.

the more i read the more sickening the stories become.

henceforth i have sent emails to the british police child protection unit, the u.k social services and mr. blair himself the prime minister.
