I think the argument makes a lot of sense, and there is no logical or biblical explanation for not running for political office. Dawg, I think you held your position well.

So, I have this conversation with my crazy JW cousin/Jw's wrong again
by dawg init all starts off pretty benign, when she suddenly says "well, you believe man can solve the problems of this world"... she says this because i've ran for political office twice, losing once.
i know where this is going... so i say "i've never said that is our only hope, i just recognize that i live in this reality today, i'm here now, and god's kingdom isn't.. it's the men here now that run things, if god ever steps in, then i'll gladly move aside as i'm sure any man would".
she says something to the effect, that we disagree on that?

When did black comedians stop being funny?
by JimmyPage ini like mike epps, cedric the entertainer, and martin lawrence.
so i rented "welcome home roscoe jenkins".
didn't laugh once.. i like tracey morgan and ice cube.

I think that's subjective. Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle (whom I happen to know personally) are so funny, that I have spit out water from laughing at them.
As far as those ridiculous movies, they are awful, but there are a lot of underground comedy acts that are quite hilarious - of course, they don't get much mainstream attention or funding, which is a shame.
I prefer wit to jokes.

Terry,
Bravo for going there and handling it the way you did. You did the right thing, making a big noise would have just vindicated them in some sick way.

The Revelation book?
by Layla33 ini just came back from a weekend visit with my parents and i noticed this book all over - it gave me a bad feeling for some reason.
now, i only came after the book study was over since they have it at their house, so that's another reason why it was probably left out.
however, i consider this apocalyptic cult a concern and one of the reason i scan on here from time to time is to keep to date on what is going on.

I just came back from a weekend visit with my parents and I noticed this book all over - it gave me a bad feeling for some reason. Now, I only came after the book study was over since they have it at their house, so that's another reason why it was probably left out. However, I consider this apocalyptic cult a concern and one of the reason I scan on here from time to time is to keep to date on what is going on. I have always felt that as time went on and it became abundantly obvious that the sounding of the Armageddon bell was completely untrue and inaccruate, that they are going to step up their lunancy with some type of high level cult activity like asking people to leave their homes and move to a JW compound or something along those lines.
Anyway, I am digressing, what is this book about? Is it more indoctrination or has it been stepped up a bit? When I left 18 years ago, Revelations was this super secret book that everyone was told was extremely difficult to interpret. Back then I surmised it was a set up for them to then go about giving their own interpretation. Anyone care to give a briefing on it? It would be much appreciated.

are mixed race marriages ok?
by Star57 indoes the bible say anything about people marrying other races???
im white, and my boyfriend is iraqi, is this okay?
-

I have yet to sufficiently read a justification from the bible that says that "mixed" marriages are wrong. You are free. You are free to love, free to interact with, make friends, make love not war with whomever you want, you DO NOT NEED TO ASK PERMISSION about it.
A god of love isn't looking at something as trivial as skin color, "cultural background" and everything other imperfect human BS that we have focused way too much on. A god of love is looking at hearts and individuals. So, taking that into consideration, you should know the answer.

Why there will always be Jehovah's Witnesses.
by TooBad TooSad inthere will always be jehovah's witnesses because:.
1. there will always be people who can not think for themselves.. 2. there will always be people who need to be told how to dress, what to do on vacation, what.
to do on the weekends, how much education you should have, and what married couples can do in bed.. 3. there will always be people who are willing to put thier lives on hold as they wait for better times.. 4. there will always be people who, because they can not make a decision, enjoy being told what.

You can pretty much say the same thing for religion itself. All it is about is man trying to interpret "God" and each different religion gives their own spin.
We are all trying to collectively and individually interpret the world and there were always been segments that group together and believe the same thing - creating their own version of "the truth" in the process. It's human nature, it's philosophy and that's what we do as we live in the world. We try to make sense of it. Religion is one of those products. End of story.

For not wanting religion you sure discuss it a lot..Are you still on JWD?
by Quirky1 inthis is what my spouse said after i mentioned issues i have seen on here...the bs being combined, the bethelites being reassigned, the possible termination of co's, etc... she said if that i didn't want anything to do with religion that i shouldn't even be on this site looking into issues such as these.
it has made me to wonder if she isn't right.
am i just trying to reason with myself or am i seeking to avenge myself against the wbts?

Even though the main theme is ex JWs and those fading, etc there are so many other topics that are discussed. I don't really discuss the JW topics too much, unless it's supporting someone trying to leave, etc. To be quite honest, being on here has been the most I have even thought about the JW religion in years and even at times, I just read other topics. It's just a common theme, like ex British people or former Mormons, I don't think it has anything to do with wanting a religion per se, it's just a common thread that we share.

Elders supposed contact DF&DA once every year???!!!???
by Quotes ini was speaking to my mom on the phone yesterday, and despite my trying to avoid it, we got to talking about wacky jw topics -- again.
actually, it was nearly unavoidable, since she had just returned from her summer convention.
aside: nice way to celebrate your wedding anniversary, mom & dad; at an assembly!

I have heard it, but I don't think it is enforced strictly. I have never had such calls and I have been out for over 18 years. Personally I think they do it here and there but mostly with people they think they have a chance of trying to win over.
