I wonder how many people gave him a free pass because he showed empathy and contrition? Oh, and because he is disabled? Was he still a JW? Was he DF'd for his previous offence? What the HECK happened that he was let off from molesting a child with a warning? Only two years for what he did to that woman? MINIMUM SENTENCE???? This is the same country that originally let that elder off from raping all the little JW kids before.
Do judges in that country find no worth in JW children or in elderly women? What does it take to actually be punished for sexually assaulting a person in that country? Does one need to be a nubile hottie? Babies and old ladies don't matter? Was the little old lady a JW? An article said he was acquainted with her. . . .maybe JWs there ought to fight with the Borg and the Legal System to get justice!

She Would Have Been Better Off A JW

Your former wife might have been just as attracted to another church had she been exposed to one that appealed to her on the level the JWs did. Whatever level that was.
I know a person who was raised Jewish, was first exposed to the NT through WT bible and teachings of a JW acquaintance, but was a nerd enough to read the whole Bible and recognized that the WT was not it(the truth), moved on to Jews for Jesus and the Jesus movement of the 60's-70's, helped found Campus Crusade for Christ, was a pastor and is now an Orthodox Priest. Sometimes the steps we take are not the ultimate destination. I know a lot of people who have had a few steps and most of them figure everyone of them was necessary to get them where they wanted to be(are) ultimately. It may have been a first step for her, but obviously, she never finished the walk. I don't regret where I have been, but I try to let it inform me on where I plan to go in the future!

Casilabas, I read an interesting book by a converted person of orthodox JEWISH heritage who eventually became orthodox and who was first drawn to christianity by his study with a JW! Kind of ironic, but the more he read the Bible, the more he realized that they didn't quite have it right:) (biblically). Fr. James Bernstein is quite a character(I am acquainted with him via common friends, phone and email). I think his book is "Surprised by Christ". He was a co-founder of Jews for Jesus and was a mover in the early 70's Jesus movement.
Everything I understand about the Eastern Catholic is that they are basically Orthodox but accept some authority from the Pope. There is a different kind of attitude about worship in the Orthodox church that I didn't get at the RC. But I was in a different place then, too. Haven't been to a RC church for awhile.

JW diseases
by highdose inon the subject of health matters i was mentaly listing all the comman illnesses that the dubs lay claim to, most of the time this is self diagnosed and with no imput from a dr. in fact the comman story is that "the drs won't belive me!".
a large number of jw's i knew went and got tested for allergies, this was the big thing for years.
every single one of them turned out to be allgeric to the same stuff ( wheat, dairy, sugar) ... i should point out that they all went to the one "dr" for this, the "dr" in question had never had any medical training and had done only a basic course.

The IBS comes from being very devoted to meeting attendance and not taking a bathroom break when needed (cause you know that is spiritually immature) and of course, in field service, biological needs don't often meet up with the car groups plans. It's embarrassing to have an entire car lose time while you search out the nearest loo. You SURE can't use the householders!

Ah, I have spent hours with Baptists and Mormons hearing them tell jokes on themselves. My mom doesn't have any sense of humor and unfortunately, I have inherited it somewhat. Fortunately, I had an Irish dad. I find humor in weird 'off' things that no one but me and some strange guy in the corner of the room really gets. I am still turned off by a lot of 'off color' humor that the rest of the world is rolling in the aisles over.
At least I 'got' Borat, even if I was cringing a lot:)

So, because some have had bad experiences with cops, then Gates should get to tarnish a man of good repute with the label of racist? He is accused of racial profiling for responding to a 911 call? The man encountered a person who had all kinds of preconceived ideas of the danger he was in-from a cop in Cambridge Mass. on the campus of Harvard. His personal property and person were being protected by the police and he assumed that he was going to be abused-and apparently tried to ask for it.
I was almost amused at his description of the trauma of arrest and being booked. Does he think there is any less trauma or humiliation for a white, hispanic or asian person who is arrested? Does he think they changed procedure to pick on him? I say almost because having volunteered in a jail, I know it is a humiliating and scary and depressing place to be. It is meant to be all that. I wonder if he ever got arrested before? I am wondering if he had ever experienced "the man" in the way he had learned of and written about his entire adult life? Is this an experience he kind of wanted to give his black experience some cred?
I am frustrated by this. There is enough real racism without people grasping to find some.
