Every woman in Egypt loves that story! The story is translated badly. She didn't want him to cover his eyes, she reminded him to "lower his gaze" which means that if he is remotely intrigued, HE is supposed to lower his eyes and not stare at her. In Islam, women are constantly told how to cover up "enough", but men are rarely reminded that their part of the bargain is to NOT LOOK at them. It's a two way street. So, if hair is showing or the wind blows up and shows some ankle, men should stop looking. But they don't. Then they say women are luring them. Its stupid and we are all sick of it. Men are not animals. If you are that tempted by a glimpse of our hair you should go castrate yourself and safe us all the grief!!!

That is my studied and considered opinion as a covered up woman living in Egypt for a few more days. I can't WAIT to go home.

My new worries about my mom-Suicide?

i love my jw mom.

we have had issues and struggles, but she loves me, i love her and we tolerate a lot of things we differ about because of that love.. you may remember my dad died a little over 11 years ago, and my mom took to a lot of drinking and she was very depressed.

i thought she would just die of despair or drink herself dead or drive drunk.. she has calmed down on the depression and i i know she still drinks too much, but i think it is a little more ocntained.

YUM! We used to tease her that she needed to learn we liked the meatloaf well done, but NOT the biscuits (cause she tended to forget them too). I became the resident biscuit expert and we work together JUST fine. She doesn't burn pie! She is one outstanding pie baker. She hardly ever cooks these days, but I am hoping to cook for her! I am so excited that we will both welcome our new (great-for her) granddaughter together. That is a blessing her mom never got. Her mom died of lung cancer as a very young woman (42) and my mom had just had us when she was diagnosed. It took grandma 2 years and she got to love a couple of her grandchildren, but didn't even finsih raising her own children to adulthood. Now, my mom has been there for all of her grandkids and will get to see the next generation besides. I hope that is a hopeful "sign" to her. It really is such an amazing blessing. She already has nearly 30 years more on this earth than her mom and I think she kind of likes it:)

in my last meeting to be re-instated they said for next time figure out which person from the bible i'm most like.

and be ready to tell them what i pray about and how i feel about what i did to jehovah.

being honest , speaking from the heart about jesus forgiving peter and having a hard time answering the prayer question didn't work getting hysterical and nervous-breakdownish at the end didn't help, nor did running out of the hall after saying i could never do any better.

David is my suggestion. He was a gross sinner, but he loved God and (I think) was humble before him and (I hope!) was repentent. There were consequences to his actions and his whole family was disfunctional in the extreme-but no matter how messed up he was, he loved God and God is merciful to even the lowest sinner. (ok, this is all very old, haven't read any of it lately, so might want to reread what the WT says about him and twist it that way) My point was that God was able to forgive this man. If God can forgive him in his humility, who are they not to forgive you?

HEY, exactly when did the WT turn into Catholic priests, taking confessions, reprimanding, absolving sin? Seriously! I am freshly ticked off about that! (long time since I was DFd, I am now terribly offended for you)

Good news, my mom seems to have taken a chill pill and is now considering a biopsy, though I doubt that she will ever consider full out surgery. On a positive note, she doesn't seem depressed or worried. Her house sale may or may not go through and she isn't stressing on it (which I think she would be if she had plans to wrap things up right soon). So, I am encouraged. My mom is mostly a pragmatic woman, so I will hope that she is pragmatic and postitive rather than negative-because pragmatism could go either way. She sounded pretty positive the last time I talked to her.

And, she is going to make me (burnt, the way I like it)meatloaf, lumpy(our family tradition)mashed potatoes and the best gravy on the planet when I go to visit her, so I am really looking forward to going home. I think it will be a good, positive time and a lot of family togetherness. All that and my sisters carrot cake and "I" could die happy:) But I'd rather live for seconds!

I am in talks with my sister about this now. She is indeed worried about the money left over after she is gone, distributing things, and all. I remember how she told me that she wished she had given my dad the gun like he asked her to when he was diagnosed and knew what he was in for (it was particularly fast and brutal-6 mos of excruiciating pain as he wasted away to nothing). She felt guilty for making him go through it. I don't know. I keep telling myself, that is nuts to even think mom would do such a thing-then I remember how that time during my dads illness and the years after felt. The thing is, she hasn't got a definitive diagnosis and she is acting in such a way as to not ever get one. I am hopeful that if she doesn't have an absolute clear diagnosis that she won't take action (as long as this doesn't affect her daily life ). But if that spot acts like cancer in any way that curtails her, I see her taking that as a definitive diagnosis and death sentence.

We have a little time before my visit and I know my mom DOES want to see me, so, thank God, I am sure she won't do anything imminently. I will see what my sister and brother (he has shunned me, so that communication will be through sister) think. He lives closest but is the most distant. My ex is involved too, and I will see how much I can discuss with him without breaking any confidences of my mom (by the way, this is a huge secret. ShHHHHH)

I really don't want her to have a religous option for it, if you know what I mean.

As to the biopsy, her brother, who subsequently died of lung cancer, was nearly killed by a biopsy before he had any treatment. There was a stupid flub in the hospital and it was all very dramatic. Dr. apologised with a ruths criss steak dinner at the hospital. I KID YOU NOT. Anyway, he subsequently died a horrible death just a couple of years after my dad did. My mom lost 2 maternal aunts and her mom to lung cancer too. That is why a spot on a scan that wasn't there 2 years ago seems to be cancer inevitably. Her long time doctor actually agrees (has monitored her for decades and knows the history well). Of course, she is counseling for biopsy and me, too. She won't let them do any surgery since that was another bad episode (with all that family history, there are a lot of them) . She is mostly down to this idea. Death is inevitable and she doesn't want to drag it out any. I am hoping she leaves it at that and doesn't decide that she wants to hasten it is all. Its just with the sell offs and getting rid of stuff, and the concerns about my nephew, I wonder if she is giving me hints or begging for help to NOT do something stupid. I dn't know.

My sis thinks she is underplaying it already, I don't know The idea of my mom going through what my dad went through scares the stuffing out of me. It seems that murderers can be forgiven, so why not self murder? I don't know. I'm terrified at what HER mindset might be. Thanks Aude, you are an old reliable here on the forum:) You are all great.

i will be seeing her doctors with her in December when her next scan is.

Is anyone elses mom like this?

Good ideas, but on the first, if I were to say it, she'd insinuate I was suggesting it, not worried about it. She has been trained from an early age to turn hard questions back onto the questioner so as to avoid them.

On the second, not really sure who I could approach. I'm a long ways away, but I will ask her if she is. This is something I think I should be dong for her, not the congregation, so if she turned it back on me, I'd know I deserved it and feel like crap, but she needs the support, even if I am not there.

She refuses to get a biopsy and will refuse any surgical treatment, only chemical and radiation, but they can't even give her a proper diagnosis w/o the biopsy. She has put herself in a no win situation. I brought up my concern to my sister. We are on the same page about mom, though I get along much better with mom and sis than either of them do with each other:) She still knows the depth of both her sanity and her insanity (we all have our things, right?) None of her kids live close, and my son is the closest grandhchild and is busy with life-but he does help her and is close to her and she knows he loves her, which is good. As his baby is due soon, I really don't want to bring up " I think grandma might be suicidal" to him. My nephew was born the day my dad died and that whole sceanrio is freaking my sis and I out a little since my grandbaby is due at the time my moms next scan is scheduled. You know how some people, specially JWs, love symmetry and crap.

thanks for the input folks. Anyone have any ideas about WT teaching on suicide/resurrection? That would matter to her.
