  I think that in a typically insular way, we do tend to project our own cultural values and mores onto others-even God, himself. We also do it to ourselves calling men who are attracted to pubescent girls as pedophiles. Culturally, it is inappropriate for them to try to get together with them, however, it is not a pedophilic act to be turned on by a girl who has reached puberty. Yep, we think its kind of yukky (at best), but while they can do things that are abusive of authority or just plain sexual assault, it doesn't make them pedophiles.

  It is sick to us to hear of a very young girl being impregnated-and usually, in our culture, it means some sick and twisted things have happened. But don't put that on every situation, its a mistake.

  while doing work for a client in her office recently, we got into a light discussion about religion.

  she knew i was one of jehovahs witnesses as our business relationship started while i was still a loyal and believing jw.

  anyway, i said something that she knew didnt quite fit and she said ... i thought you were one of jehovahs witnesses ... i shared my story ... she felt comfortable to confide in me a story as to why, even though she has had dealings with jehovahs witnesses who she thinks are good people, she would never even consider listening to them about their religion.. i asked her if she would write it down for me so that i could share ... she agreed.. this is her experience.. .

  My cousin had leukemia and there was a blood issue. He was supposed to get a bone marrow transplant but his parents refused and by the time it got to the court it was too late. Blood is also used not to cure but to alleviate the symptoms (they gave it to my dad who had lung cancer to strenthen his system, not to cure him-he was very weak but nothing was going to 'save' him from the cancer). I think my aunt and uncle were pressured by the elders in this and I think it went to court just so that they could say that they fought it. My cousin, poor little guy, died. He was 6, I think. I actually think that the doctors respected them too long and they pretended to fight too long. I am speculating some, but I think they THOUGHT the doctors would intervene sooner and I think the doctors tried to 'respect' their beliefs thinking the parents would decide to do the right thing on their own (which I understand quite a few did, which is why the JWs now have such diligent hospital liason workers).

  The JW liason workers are scary. They stalk you before, during and after surgery to make sure you exercise your "conscience".

  So I got engaged...

  ...to my boyfriend, we're going to have one of those weddings ('gay' weddings to the straights).. although my jw family know i'm gay, and not going to meetings, only one of my sisters has sussed the situation.

  but i think after 3 years it's about time i told them.

  especially if sometime in the future i'll turn up with a (gay) wedding ring.

  I think if you get married to your boyfriend, the deciding to leave the JWs will be pretty much taken out of your hands as a decision for you to make:)

  I think it would be more fun to go with a bang since you know it is inevitable that lots of fur will be flying.

  My mom wants me to disassociate myself from her on facebook if

  my mom sent me a email telling me that if i want to put any of that (non jw/non christian) religious stuff on my facebook then i should unfriend her.

  i didn't respond directly.

  i did take the email, remove id'ing aspects and ask my facebook friends to tell me what they thought of the request.

  I appreciate the comments-except the adolescent one! I will have to examine that one a bit more! In any case, my mom has nobody in the family physically close to her and I am not giving her an excuse to shut me out directly by a confrontation. She would be too too alone. The only reason my kids visit her is when I harrass them into it even though my oldest does love her and confide in her sometimes (my kids are hours away also). She lives alone with her dog for pete's sake. My siblings live hours away by car or plane and so do I. She has two sisters who live hours away and most of her inlaws have died off. I'm the kid that in every way but the WT am the one she connects to. My sis and her are like oil/water (mostly because of the religion, but it comes out in a lot of ways) and my brother is a big fat dud of a human being.

  So, I did my passive aggressive bit and will let it rest, I guess. I can't see bringing it on further. She already lived 40 years beyond "armageddon", outlived my dad and all her brothers, went through cancer for herself and several loved ones. If she defriends me, that's on her, but since she is still sending me emails like nothing was said or responded to online, I guess she is letting it go. It may have helped that I warned her off poisonous doggy treats for her puppy, who knows? I really think she likes dogs more than people. Irony is that I used to go out in service w/her and EVERY dog used to terrify her.

  no birthday celebration after all

  new boyfriend is upset bc an old boyfriend when i was a teenager is on my fb friend list and wished me a happy birthday.

  was supposed to go to turkish embassy for cultural celebration.

  my first birthday in years, and total freaking meltdown.

  You just got the best birthday present ever-a good look at the guy you call your boyfriend. You don't have to waste time on such a jealous controlling guy anymore. If he repents and you forgive him, he will DARN well make it up to you.

  Happy Birthday. I know right now you are bummed but at least he didn't bring you take out shrimp chinese for dinner when he knows you are deathly allergic (my last birthday gift from ex) and don't really like Chinese food.

  Graph in latest Watchtower deliberately amended

  did anyone notice that the graph of publisher growth in the jan 1st watchtower has been deliberately "tweaked" to give the impression of higher growth in the period 2000 - 2010?

  i've tried to illustrate this by superimposing the actual graph line over the one from the watchtower ( which is the narrower line in the graph.

  ) the period up to 2000 exactly mirrors the actual figures but the artist has decided to edge up the last decade , for obvious reasons.

  I am putting what I want in my facebook. The latest thing I put in there was something I found here about the man who donated a lot of blood that is used for JW pregnancies/babies (rH factor). That blood has to come from somewhere! Haven't heard from her regarding that one, but I'm pretty sure she is getting my none too subtle message.

  The new bible did NOT remove the previously [bracked inserted words], it only removed the brackets, so it's even more deceptive..

  many said how they removed the bracketed words, etc.

  here is an example, an older bible in exodus 18:16 would say this....."i must make known the decisions of the [true] god and his laws.".

  the word "true" is not in the original manuscripts, it's inserted, hence the [ ].

  an average of five kingdom halls being constructed daily, almost 8 million brothers and sisters, dissemination of bible literature in 595 languages, 111,795 congregations worldwide, distribution of 179 million bibles available in 116 languages, 239 countries where jehovah's witnesses have a presence, etc.. need i go on?.

  on the other hand........... crisis of conscience, freeminds, the awaa, jw.net, ummmmmm........hmmm........idk six screens or something?

  Any MLM business is pretty diverse-and at least when you leave, you have some laundry soap(or makeup or coffee or baskets or jewelry) to show for it!. They will let anyone join, even people from the humblest beginnings can find great success and women are an important part of it.

  There are a lot of converts in and out of that business, but you can keep your friends when you leave the business.

  it has been now verified that there was a traitor within the gb!.

  an insider had the courage and audacity to verify this, taking the risk of being kicked out of bethel, with a cross carved on his forehead.. it became apparent that all the men of the gb where naturally bald, even when some tried to hide it with a clever and stylistic comb-over.

  but there was some suspicion that pierce and losch were not true bald men.

  I think most here are willing to mock the GB types-but while I could see some humor, there is just so much BETTER material with which to mock them. I think what you may have more of here than JWs is bald guys:)
