  Is this new donation arrangement for real?

  just read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.

  congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.

  congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

  There certainly is a lot of speculation in this thread, but the basic info at the beginning was IDd as rumor. Some speculated, then others skimmed and soon there were a few total misunderstandings going on (about tithing being put in place, etc).

  Here is the thing. We get a LOT of rumors on this forum. MANY of them are in part (usually a large part) true. So, yep, we speculate. As earlier stated, we learned that in the org:)

  So long as we remember that we are speculating. I think one thing that is important to remember is as bad as the org is and will always be, there are a lot of sincere JWs out there who, while being sincerely wrong, are not idiots, or stupid. They are US last year or 5 years ago or 35 years ago. So, lets look at it with some compassion and use the insight that we should have and see what we can do to help our own loved ones. No need to be sniping at one another.

  The discussion does get a little heated, and many of us get a kick out of further demonizing the org. Conspiracy theories are a natural outgrowth. There are a lot of funky things going on there, so we might as well enjoy the show if we aren't emotionally strung up over it. If we are still, then some threads might be best avoided until you get a sense of humor about the entire issue. It may not happen,but usually, it does.

  More than one church asks for tithes. I don't know that even the LDS (MORMONS) actually asks to see tax returns. I believe that most such churches are operating on an 'honor system". I think the WT could do that, but I don't see that they are,so it will be interesting to see what transpires, certainly.

  So far as this new system-it is just tightening the financial noose. The thing is-they say that it will not be "enforced" and that brothers should not be hounded for it. We shall see how THAT transpires, also. It is also said that each year, according to circumstances, that they could/should re-evaluate the amount that is pledged. Reality will soon kick in, hopefully. And again, it will be interesting to see what THEN transpires:)

  Would you still be a JW, if you had to Tithe?

  the next new light from the f&ds could be the tithe for jw's.

  it's a logical corporate decision , needed to replace the lost income stream from the publishing side of the wt business.

  they know that the kh has many inactive slugs who don't contribute any $$ to the business, so this would be the best way to milk $$ from the inactive ones.

  The seem to be attempting a permanent minimal donation from each congregation now. Who knows the response to those congregations who don't pony up?

  LDS do not excommunicate for failure to pay tithes. It just means you can't do 'temple work' or get married in the temple. You can still be considered a member and will get assistance-just not "worthy" to go tothe temples.

  Why do I bother to wake up in the morning?

  i'm not suicidal just fed up.. i did think of suicide (briefly), but as there is no painless way and it's not something i would willingly do just in case things would have been better the day after.

  i do have a slight grain of hope.. money problems.....problems at home (that's another matter with a son up court for something he is adamant he didn't do.

  first offence but the pigs police and the cps have got charges made.

  Its ok and natural to be depressed when you have difficult things surrounding you. The saving grace for you though is that you know that tomorrow could definitely see a turnaround. Never lose that perspective. Difficult situations eventually ease and it will get better. Promise.

  I made my daughters cry last night.....

  ...when i told them i didn't believe anymore.

  they cried like i'd never seen before.

  my oldest, 10, pleaded with me that she'd do anything to get me to keep going to meetings ("i'll get a's on my report card!").

  Are my children in danger of being indoctrinated if I let them spend the night with their JW family?

  so... i'm writing because i have mixed feelings.

  keeping my kids safe is my goal... until they are old enough to understand and reason on their own.

  my mother gave me the tapes (that i gave her back in december) of combating mind control by steven hassan, saying that she didn't have a tape player... reminded me of three years ago when i gave her crisis of conscience by ray franz and she said it's to big book to read and she's not a reader.

  I agree with Buck. No matter what they say and even if they actually agree not to directly preach at the kids, they will be dropping cult speak into every conversation. It will be bad enough in your presence (and they will,they don't even KNOW how much they do it), but they will feel 'morally' obligted to teach your kids whenever you are not available.

  BTW, write your will now naming non-JW guardians for your kids. Unless you have your wishes stated, parents are the first place they go if something happens to you.

  okay so i'm dating a born-in jw woman, she's younger than me and has no kids.

  i'm a christian man whos divorced with 2 kids.

  we're in love and seriously want to be together.

  I'm curious about why she is going to be DF'd. It seems like that is a done deal already. If it isn't about you, what's it about?

  If you can find what she actully VALUES in the WT(you told us of a lot that you sh compromise on), then perhaps you can find a chrisitan church that you can both agree enough on to attend with your family. I never bought the trinity thing,but I didn't buy the WT belief either.I went to various churches and no one ever (other than catholic) seemed toget to Jesus worshippy. Jesus as "god" got lip service in any case and the trinity was glossed over a lot since a LOT of people don't really get it. Jesus was oneaarth and told us lots of good stuff. That is pretty much Jesus teaching in the churches. Jesus was taught s the son. I did eventually become Muslim, but honestly, as Christian I found that my profound love and respect for Jesus did not have to be attached to "the trinity" though a lot of ex JWs latch on to it like a lifesaver. I still have profound love and respect for the man, Jesus and refuse to show disrespect. Plenty of baptists are evangelizing (formally and informally) and nowadays, there are jillions of people 'witnessing' of their belief online without turning in timeslips to anyone. What's the message that she thinks is worthy of being spread? Does she think it is all right to STOP doing so simply because a few men in a congregation refuse to allow her to go out in FS? Seriously, 10 years?

  Selective memories and disfellowshipping

  i've been out around 20 years (da'd), but recently i've really started to struggle with certain aspects of relating to family members who are still in, as well as my own thoughts and feelings about my upbringing and my personal views about god/life the universe.

  i have an older sibling and my mum who are still in.

  we are a small family and my dear grandmother, who was not in, passed away around a year ago.

  Pre-Memorial territory coverage

  has anyone else seen the local congregation doing the usual field service push before the memorial?

  i think its strange that we (nor our neighbors) havent seen them in the neighborhood yet.

  only 2 weeks away and no territory blast?
