Man, at first when reading it, I thought it was a 3rd party scam. Even I didn't think that the WT would pull off such a blatant heist. While its very sad taht they would do such a thing, hopefully it will wake up some of the bros n sisters in Mexico. Isnt it NICE that they can keep their own money on deposit with the branch or deposit it to the WW work? Jeez, that is just a stinky way to do things

Misappropriation of funds (Project for an Assembly Hall in Guadalajara)
by avaddohn94 inat the extj.com forum, a very serious scandal is being discussed regarding a potential misappropriation of funds by mexico's branch.. http://www.extj.com/showthread.php?24740-denuncia--quot-proyecto-fantasma-quot-salon-de-asambleas-de-guadalajara-o-robo-de-fondos.
though the situation may not be quite uncommon, below you will find an overview:.
a member of mexico's branch committee went to guadalajara to inform the brothers that a plot of land had been donated for the construction of an assembly hall.

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

Financial straights-or difficulties. In other words, do you think the WT has money troubles?
Where are you from? Your English is not quite on the mark, but its better than some native English speakers:)

OH NO!! The latest clip for kids on JW.ORG so very wrong!
by stuckinarut2 inso the latest clip on jw.org for kids is so wrong!.
it is about the "victory song".
lets all sing songs about how vengeful and destructive "our loving god" can be...along with cartoonish pictures...... all rejoice at the death of the evil people who used their "god-given free will", then got punished for doing so!.

EMETH, John 5:28-29 says that all will be resurrected. Does the WT teach differently?

Well, I know I am an ex JW because I still marvel at Peeps that aren't stale. Fresh ones are a revelation.
Of course, I still look forward to after holiday candy reductions.
I still have fleeting thought about the use of the word "lucky" or "god bless you"
I still appreciate Thanksgiving and the fourth of July like no one else (my fave holidays)
I have a huge bunch of things to NEVER discuss with my JW mom
My sis and I have a lot of discussions about keeping our mom's religion out of our kids experience.
I thank God every day for my journey out of it. I also thank God every day for what I learned while in it-good or bad, it is part of my life and I hope that ultimately-I'm improved by that part, too.

Dressed for Failure--drab colors in dress code
by WTWizard ini noticed that, especially for men, that they are required to dress in drab colors for boasting sessions and in field circus.
men are supposed to wear dirty colored suits--dark gray, muddy brown, black, and off-shades of maroon, forest green, and navy/midnight blue seem to be most common.
they get hounded if they wear something in a "loud" color--meaning anything that is near one of the major points in the rainbow and near saturation (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or violet is most likely to result in a major hounding).

remembering bro. dent of the lime green poly suits and purple shirts=well business colors dont seem so bad. i like a white shirt. specially the embroidered mexican ones. I think avoiding a pimped out look isn't a bad thing, but mandatory (anything) ties and hose and skirt lengths are silly.RULES are controlling and I don't like that at all when it's adults who are mandating to other adults that they are not paying or supporting in any way.
Peer pressure to be modest happens to every new christian who doesn't get that dressing like a 'ho is generally inappropriate, but beyond that its not an elders business. If it keeps one off the stage though, it seems a great way to step down from privileges without getting into actual trouble. Wear those cords and your skirt just a little short or your shirt a bit loud.

There certainly is a lot of speculation in this thread, but the basic info at the beginning was IDd as rumor. Some speculated, then others skimmed and soon there were a few total misunderstandings going on (about tithing being put in place, etc).
Here is the thing. We get a LOT of rumors on this forum. MANY of them are in part (usually a large part) true. So, yep, we speculate. As earlier stated, we learned that in the org:)
So long as we remember that we are speculating. I think one thing that is important to remember is as bad as the org is and will always be, there are a lot of sincere JWs out there who, while being sincerely wrong, are not idiots, or stupid. They are US last year or 5 years ago or 35 years ago. So, lets look at it with some compassion and use the insight that we should have and see what we can do to help our own loved ones. No need to be sniping at one another.
The discussion does get a little heated, and many of us get a kick out of further demonizing the org. Conspiracy theories are a natural outgrowth. There are a lot of funky things going on there, so we might as well enjoy the show if we aren't emotionally strung up over it. If we are still, then some threads might be best avoided until you get a sense of humor about the entire issue. It may not happen, but usually, it does.

More than one church asks for tithes. I don't know that even the LDS (MORMONS) actually asks to see tax returns. I believe that most such churches are operating on an 'honor system". I think the WT could do that, but I don't see that they are,so it will be interesting to see what transpires, certainly.
So far as this new system-it is just tightening the financial noose. The thing is-they say that it will not be "enforced" and that brothers should not be hounded for it. We shall see how THAT transpires, also. It is also said that each year, according to circumstances, that they could/should re-evaluate the amount that is pledged. Reality will soon kick in, hopefully. And again, it will be interesting to see what THEN transpires:)

Would you still be a JW, if you had to Tithe?
by moshe inthe next new light from the f&ds could be the tithe for jw's.
it's a logical corporate decision , needed to replace the lost income stream from the publishing side of the wt business.
they know that the kh has many inactive slugs who don't contribute any $$ to the business, so this would be the best way to milk $$ from the inactive ones.

The seem to be attempting a permanent minimal donation from each congregation now. Who knows the response to those congregations who don't pony up?
LDS do not excommunicate for failure to pay tithes. It just means you can't do 'temple work' or get married in the temple. You can still be considered a member and will get assistance-just not "worthy" to go tothe temples.
(sorry for prev. post. My great neice thought she'dhelp with my posting.)

Why do I bother to wake up in the morning?
by punkofnice ini'm not suicidal just fed up.. i did think of suicide (briefly), but as there is no painless way and it's not something i would willingly do just in case things would have been better the day after.
i do have a slight grain of hope.. money problems.....problems at home (that's another matter with a son up court for something he is adamant he didn't do.
first offence but the pigs police and the cps have got charges made.

Its ok and natural to be depressed when you have difficult things surrounding you. The saving grace for you though is that you know that tomorrow could definitely see a turnaround. Never lose that perspective. Difficult situations eventually ease and it will get better. Promise.
