i am not mama.
.. meantime, finches gather 'round the four birdbaths in my garden and splash about and share the latest birdland gossip.. .

He is a mess now. Forgive him. Follow up in a few weeks with a nice note mentioning some memories of the person that died that are happy and positive and just leave it at that. If nothing else happens, you know that you did a kind thing and if he can't accept, that's his prob. He probably will send another stilted note, if anything, but at least your former friendship deserves that acknowledgment.
I'm sorry that you lost someone who had been so dear to you without a reconciliation. That is a tragedy that the WT is guilty of perpetuating.

I'm confused! Just what is the "new" donation arrangement and how is it like "tithing"?
by booker-t ini've been out so long but many of my ex-jws friends have been telling me of a "new" donation/tithing arrangement the wts is using today.
when i was a jws we had "contribution" boxes at the back of the kh and the elders would give talks about contributing to the kingdom interest.
we were not forced to give but gave as we pleased.

This is not tithing in any sense of the word. It is coercive, manipulative and defiitely a money grab.
Congregations are supposed to come to an agreement on an amount to send to the org. every month for the "world wide work" and while they are not legally obligated, they will be directed to/understand that it is their moral and ethical obligation to pony up-no matter how much it hurts. There are always certain ones in a congregation who will make up the difference if they possibly can. These are sometimes well off bros and sisters, and sometimes are the ones that are known as soft touches-even if they are not well off. It's less about deep pockets than open ones.
In the meantime, they are supposed to send all spare monies in their congregation bank accounts (beyond 3 mos operating costs) straight to that same donation fund. All this in lieu of paying for KH mortgages anymore. However, they will be required to pony up for "minor" repairs and maintenance of the KH. Any homowner knows that there is rarely such a thing as a minor expense when repairs are involved. How much less so when you have parking lots, security fences, large HVAC and multiple bathrooms, sometimes apartments, huge roofs. . . well, this is clearly going to cause issues down the road.

Dilemma
by Gorbatchov ingorby and his lovely wife had during dinner a chat about watchtower hypocrisy.
she faded with me since 2007 and shows sometimes affection for the organization.. we talked about the gb and ray franz.. she asked me if she could read my ray franz books.. now i have a dilemma.
the books gave me a hard time in the '90.. i know the ray franz truth can hurt and shock her so much.

you are worried that she will reject you because the harshness of the truth of it can not leave her unmoved. She will appreciate you or it will trigger the loyalty thing and make her close her eyes, cover her ears and say blahblahblahblahblah. Might want to tell her THAT before she reads it. She will not be unmoved by it either way. She should read it though. Its gonna hurt but it needs doing.

Today I made
Au gratin potatoes
Mac n Cheese
Homemade rolls
Bread pudding(looks amazing!! Cooked in my new cast iron dutch oven)
We have chicken and brocolli to go with, but looking at my culinary urges today, if I wasn't through menopause pretty definitely, I'd think I was pregnant or having a visit from aunt flo. Totally hormonal menu.

Most absurd thing I heard at the convention yesterday!
by Batman89 inbrother lett was giving the last talk of the day about what they supposedly accomplished in 100 years.
i was just waking up so im paraphrasing alittle(i was dosing off all day) anyways in his introduction he said.
"there is more evidence to prove gods kingdom on the earth is a reality than wind, electricity and gravity is a reality on the earth".

Isn't it hard determining which thing that they say is the MOST absurd? I mean, seriously, it's all pretty wacked, you know?

all the rooms in the dorms are handicapped accessible (and look pretty nice).
They advertised this in various ways, resort, hospice and elderly care facilities.
If the WT actually CARED for elderly JWs as a ministry, I would think something nice about them. How likely is that to happen-unless it is the top Borg dudes? It could be a blessing for all those who have shunned their children or abstained from having any because of the WT directives. It won't ever happen *unless done on a for profit basis somehow*.
Looks like a beautiful facility. Maybe it is for all those folks in upstate NY to go to as snowbirds. . . for 'training' during the harsh winter months in upstate NY. Tuxedo park is kind of in the mountains, isn't it? I went to a Renn fair there once. Really nice in the summer. Winter in NY is harsh.
