Eh, that this even comes up shows what a killjoy religion the WTBTS/JWs can be. They didn't need to write it-we all know exactly what the article would say, right? (see above) -

Field Service Reports Count More than Showing Love - Ray Franz CF Book
by flipper ini've always suspected this was the wt society's view when i was in the jehovah's witness organization - but never knew the head of the writing committee karl adams had written a letter to nathan knorr ( then wt president ) recommending a change regarding reporting field service time as it wrongly emphasized jw members being seen as mainly being approved due to field service statistics - instead of emphasizing christian qualities of love, kindness, peace, etc.. karl adams had been personally handpicked by nathan knorr to be the head of the writing department.
in 1971 he wrote a letter to knorr which he wanted shared with the entire governing body as well .
i'll share the main parts of that letter.. on pg.

Thanks for sharing that. It's a sad thing that they have become, isn't it?
My husband and I are in a business that operates on a network marketing/direct sales platform. We operate mostly with businesses and as an employee benefit(direct), so the network thing is pretty minor. The other day my husband got a kick down from his "upline" because he wasn't making him look good as he hadn't brought in any new associates lately. Well, we are promoting the service rather than promoting the business because we believe in the service. People who love the service and are inclined to business approach us, but we are not in the business of selling a business primarily.
JWs are more about promoting the religion (business) than the product (faith). That is why they are constantly compared to a (sleazy) network marketing business. Even the best business needs to remember that they are not worth anything unless you have something to offer people that has VALUE.

Forget the roofs, did you see the kids faces on the drive home? I remember those looks on my own face-the "oh shit, I am IN FOR IT when we get home!" look. Usually at that point, you have already gotten arm and ear pinched to within an inch of what you can bear without hollering out loud, but you know that your mom (in my case) doesn't care what the neighbors hear when you get home.
Yeah, the lectures, the spankings. . . ah, the joys of meetings. I think I paid attention because I was always the goodytwoshoes (distinguished from my naughty twin brother), plus, I read a lot generally and am detail oriented. Paying attention at meetings for kids isn't the worst thing though, let's face it-the teachings are insane and I started getting the sense that something was off by the time I was 8. I WANTED it to be right, but it just isn't. So, I was paying attention. It got me out before I was baptised or even 16 years old, so-good for me! KEEP LISTENING CALEB! You are no dummy! You are gonna figure it out!

It's about time that govt did that. It's too prevalent everywhere and too long been swept under religous/non profit rugs. -

Send money to KH in lieu of flowers.
by Jack Miller in"in lieu of flowers send money to the kingdom hall"..... wow.... this young woman's jw servant husband was caught cheating on her again with another jw "sister", but when she told her husband she wanted to forgive him again and continue with her marriage, he told her he didn't want that.
he wanted her to simply move on with her life.here is how she moved on: she put on her wedding dress, got into her car in the garage and started it.
do you think finding her this way spoke louder than any suicide note?

That's just sad. I think when something like that happens to a woman, they worry a lot. I have a friend trying to leave an abusive marriage and she has so many worries about what will happen if she makes the final break that she isn't even able to see how much the status quo is killing her soul, day by day. How will I survive? How can I stay in this, but how can I LEAVE? The failure, the condemnation that everyone gets in a divorce (whether deserved or not, we all get those messages from those we love the most).
The husband is apparently an ass. I hope no one sends money to the hall. NO ONE!

South Texas Introduction
by artsteel inwow, amazing to read all these experiences.. luckily, i walked away from them 20 some odd years ago because i wasn't making it financially and decided to pursue higher education.
best decision i ever made.
i was able to finish my degrees and i still shake my head at how these people really believe, really mind boggling.. most family members and friends i knew stopped talking to me, and up to this day i'm glad they did.. .

Sam's watch
by Slidin Fast ini just started to watch the february broadcast when i noticed a metallic rattle over the drone of sam's voice.
(does that man speak with a mouth full of chowin' tobacco or is he choking on the rubbish he reads off the autocue?).
yep it's his rolex.

Why would a person who is a GB minister and who labors for everything he gets and lives a monastic lifestyle NEED a dive watch? How many missionaries can afford that kind of hobby? Even if it is just a nice knock off, its kind of pretentious for someone who makes $100 mo plus room and board. They go on luxury vacations to warm scuba kind of places much? -

what does this tells us about evolution?.

My momma always said, don't swallow without chewing and don't bite off more than you can chew. Maybe if evolution was the answer, then snakes would have figured that out by now:) -

Ony J.W.'s could do this and not question what is going on
by Sour Grapes inat the meeting today several elders commented about the wonderful program that they attended yesterday on the new kingdom hall designs.
they said that the new halls are going to be so beautiful with lots of windows and glass panels and that the lights will be kept on in the lobby 24/7 so that you can see into the hall at night and that thousands of these halls must be built.
then five minutes later they are talking about how close the end is and that we will be meeting in basements in the near future.

weren't they basically told NOT to question what is going on? -

Elephants and JWs never forget
by Joziqueen inmy mother in law lost her husband to cancer recently.
so feeling lonely and been pushed by her sister (active witness) after not stepping in a hall for 20 years she went to a sunday meeting.
one meeting where she had the surreal experience of having to watch a "special talk" on jw tv.

So, if an elder does something and doesn't get caught for 3 years, he can consider his sins washed away , but 30 years later, she is still bound by hers? I know I am missing something in that, but really, that is the gist of it, right?
You might want to mention that to your sister. Wonder if elders are suppposed to dredge up "sins" of 30 years ago when asked if they are qualified?
